Introduction to Psychology APA Research Paper
This Paper is worth 100 points, and is an application of your knowledge and research skills learned in this class.
Write a 1 ½ to 2 page paper discussing the following prompt:
From what you have learned, so far, in this introduction to psychology course, as well as, your life experiences, interest, or personal research, define, research, and analyze a topic, using a selected contemporary perspective of psychology, from chapter one, analyze and apply your topic in the real world. 
You paper should contain the following:
Provide, define, explain, and discuss a selected topic with real world examples.
Select, define and explain a contemporary perspective of psychology from chapter one.
Analyze your topic behavior using your selected contemporary perspective.
Conclude and summarize your paper and provide suggestions, future research, training, areas for community support, or global implications, that could provide improvements, relief, or support in regards to your topic.
(Worth 100 points).
Use APA format for your cover/title page and reference page. Your paper will be graded on the following:
Cover page (APA Format) (Up to 5points)
Include and define, explain, and discuss your topic (Up to 15 points)
Select, define and explain a contemporary perspective of psychology from chapter one (Up to 20 points)
Analyze your topic behavior using your selected contemporary perspective in a real world situation and reasons for your topic behavior (Up to 20 points)
Provide Quantitative research or data support for your document, such as, percentages and numerical data. (up to 5 points)
Conclude and summarize your paper and provide suggestions (Up to 20 points)
Use at least 2 peer reviewed in-text citations, in your paper, to support your discussion (Up to 5 points)
Use at least 2 peer reviewed Reference on your reference page (Up to 5 points)
Reference page APA format (Up to 5 points)
Your APA Paper should be no longer than 3 to 4 pages in total.  FYI an APA cover/title page is 1 page, and a reference page is 2 pages, so that leaves 1 to 2 pages of your typed written material.

Instructions
For this assignment, you are being asked to identify a specific disease we covered in the course. For example, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or cancer. CVD. You are encouraged to refer back to the lecture PowerPoint for a reminder about each illness (its causes, related behaviors, outcomes, etc).
Use PsychInfo (not Google), to find 2-3 peer reviewed full text articles to help answer questions 1-3. Be sure to include the author and year for your citations within the paper and include the reference list at the end. Then, in your own words apply what you’ve learned so far in the course (lectures, films) to answer the reflection questions. Finally, develop a strategy for reducing this disease, or a solution! This needs to be based on the Transtheoretical Model of Change. 
1. Think back to the medical template (for helping psychologists work with people with chronic disease). Describe the outcome, process, etiology and management needs (O.P.E.N.). Be sure cite your references!
2. Give examples of health behaviors associated with the disease and cite your references.
3. Tell me what social, political and/or environmental factors contribute to the disease and cite your references.

4. Think back on the films you’ve watched so far in class (Bad Sugar, Becoming American, In Sickness and in Wealth, or I’m Positive Game ). Describe one solution presented in any of those films that targeted dangerous conditions and unhealthy spaces and places that contribute to the disease.
5. Then, using the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change, tell me who the target of the solution you described in question 4. Was it patients, community members, and/or elected officials? And what stage of change best describes them (Precontemplation, Contemplation, Preparation, Action, or Maintenance).
6. Finally, select any other stage of change, and tell me what different processes of change would be necessary for people in that stage to engage with in order to create positive change.
