“The Invisible Hand: Adam Smith’s Reaction to Mercantilism and its Impact on 19th-Century Economic Thought” The Influence of Smith and His Critics on the Mixed Economy of the U.S. Today “Improving Writing Skills: A Guide to Achieving Higher Grades”
Adam Smith, a very influential eighteenth-century political economist, wrote, “By pursuing his own interest, he frequently promotes that of the society more effectually than when he really intends to promote it” (cited in Stiglitz & Rosengard, 2015, p. 62). Considering the quotation, in 1,250-1,500 words, address the following questions.
Describe what Smith meant by the “invisible hand.” How exactly does it function?
Describe how Smith’s work is a reaction to mercantilism, which dominated the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. As a point of departure, define mercantilism.
Discuss if all 19th-century thinkers agree with Smith. How did, for instance, Karl Marx view the doctrine of laissez-faire? What were the inevitable consequences of such an economic system?
Discuss the influences of Smith and his critics, like Marx, reflected in the mixed economy of the United States today.
Use three to five scholarly resources to support your explanations.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

“Exploring the Elements of (Genre) Music: A PlayPosit Listening Bulb”
For this Midterm assignment, you will create your own PlayPosit Listening Bulb.
A. To start your Listening Bulb:
Select a song that fits into one of the genres from Ch 3-8 (Folk, Religious, Jazz, Popular, Music of/Beyond the Americas). If you are unsure whether your song fits into one of these genres, feel free to email me for clarification. Nearly all music fits into one of these genres except for European classical music (which we will cover in the second half of the course).
Find a video of the song on YouTube, Vimeo, or another site. Live performances are strongly preferred over still images or lyrics videos. Try to find a video where you can see the performance of music.
B. Once you’ve selected your song and found your video, you can start on your Listening Bulb. Your bulb must include at least 10 questions. In your 10 questions:
at least one question must ask about part of the form (structure) of the song using genre-appropriate form vocabulary like verse, chorus, intro, interlude, or other vocabulary connected to form in that genre
at least one question must require the listener to ID an instrument
at least one question must ask about something related to the history, development, or vocabulary specific to that genre (For example, a question about a jazz song might reference the improvisation.)
at least one question must ask about the timbre of a specific sound source within the song
at least one question must ask about the melody in some way
your remaining 5+ questions can ask about the same musical ideas listed above at different moments in the song, or other musical elements, like dynamics, texture, tempo, harmony, or other elements from Ch 2
at least 9 of your questions must be multiple choice (can be single answer or ‘check all that apply’, but not free response)
at least 9 of your questions must be fact-based (not opinions)
up to one question may reference the lyrics; it is NOT a requirement to discuss the lyrical content of your song
C. In all of your questions, you CANNOT:
ask about visual elements that are unrelated to the music (For example, “the artist filmed the video in the desert because…” this is unrelated to the music)
group all of your questions at the beginning or end of your song. Questions should be relatively spread throughout the song, asking about meaningful musical moments as they occur.
ask questions at random time stamps. When your question pops up, it should connected the music just heard and be meaningful in timing. Even though putting your questions every 20 seconds is ‘purposeful’ and not random, that would still not be meaningful timing as it relates to the music.
The assignment will be graded using the following 100-point breakdown:
10 points: selected song is from a genre covered in Ch 3-8 and is not classical music
20 points: questions address the points in section B, above
10 points: questions are at meaningful, purposeful musical moments, not at random moments
10 points: questions are spread throughout the song, not all clustered at the beginning and/or end
5 points per question: the correct answer is indicated (you select the correct answer choice for your own questions)
Click the Load button at the bottom of the page to start on your assignment.
If you would like guidance on how to use the PlayPosit site to create your Listening Bulb, watch How To Create A PlayPosit Listening Bulb pt 1 and pt 2 the next page in this module for assistance. -

Title: Conducting a Literature Review: Exploring the Current State of Research on the Effects of Social Media on Mental Health
Part of conducting any research project is to first find out all you can about the problem/topic. That includes exploring general background material; as well as the current (within the past 10 years) state of the research already done on the topic.
For this assignment, begin a Literature Review (NOT a complete Literature Review).
Consider your research problem, topic, issue and/or research question(s)
Develop a research protocol for your search
Identify between 3 to 5 current (published in the last 10 years) primary sources that seem to connect to your research problem, topic and/or issue
Be sure to add ALL of your resources to your reference list (adhering to APA 7th edition guidelines)
Write/include the following:
Introduction to your Literature Review
Research Protocol (consider a graphic image to illustrate your search)
Summarize a possible major “theme” (i.e., historical, methodological, theoretical, etc.) related to your research and the “fit” of your sources
References
Be sure to identify whether it begins with a deficit or AI (Appreciative Inquiry) premise. Include their research question(s), research design, methods for participant selection, data collection and data analysis. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each research text and the claims of the author(s). Overall, how do these articles help inform you/your research? What have you learned about your research problem? What have you learned about research? Be sure to use APA (7th edition) style guide for in-text and reference citations.
For the purposes of this beginning [mini] version of your Literature Review, you should plan to have around 5 pages (not including your reference list).
If you have difficulty finding relevant research literature, I would strongly recommend that you contact Olivia Baca, our Education Librarian at the Zimmerman Library. Let’s work smarter not harder. Librarians make that possible. They are invaluable to researchers.
Upload your review of your literature review to Canvas by 11:59pm MDT on or before Sunday June 23. If you have questions or difficulties, feel free to contact me by email, attend an optional synchronous course meeting or arrange an appointment for a virtual meeting. -

User Satisfaction Evaluation of the Zoom Interface Understanding the Difference between 32-bit and 64-bit Operating Systems Understanding the Difference between 32-bit and 64-bit Operating Systems: An Overview by Waqas ITMaster
Write a 1- to 2-page paper that addresses the following:
Briefly describe the purpose of the application or website you selected (e.g., Calendar, Word, Zoom, etc.).
Copy and paste one or two screenshots that demonstrate the basic appearance of the application interface.
Evaluate the interface with regard to at least five categories of user satisfaction with the interface. Categories may include functionality, ease of learning the interface, organization of information, sequence of screens, error messages, availability of help, designed for all levels of users, or any other categories of user satisfaction you think are important.
Include a brief justification that succinctly clarifies why you evaluated each category as you did.
Remember that, for your written assignments, you must write in a scholarly voice, use paraphrasing to convey your ideas, and put quotation marks around content that is copied word-for-word from a source. You must also provide in-text citations and a reference list for all of the sources you use.
