Unit 1 – Individual Project (125 points)
Due: Sun, May 5 |Printer Friendly Version
Description
Assignment Details:
Marker’s Tattoo Studio wants to buy new laser therapy equipment. This new equipment would cost $300,000 to purchase and $20,000 to install. Marker’s estimates that this new equipment would yield incremental margins of $98,000 annually due to new client services. It would require incremental cash maintenance costs of $10,000 annually. Marker’s expects the life of this equipment to be 5 years. They estimate a terminal disposal value of $20,000.
Marker’s has a 25% income tax rate and depreciates assets on a straight-line basis (to terminal value) for tax purposes. The required rate of return on investments is 10%.
Determine the expected increase in annual net income from investing in the new equipment.
Calculate the accrual accounting rate of return based on average investment.
Summarize whether the new equipment is worth investing in from a net present value (NPV) standpoint.
Suppose that the tax authorities are willing to let Marker’s depreciate the new equipment down to zero over its useful life. If Marker’s plans to liquidate the equipment in 5 years, should it take this option? Quantify the impact of this choice on the NPV of the new equipment.
Please submit your assignment.
For assistance with your assignment, please use your textbook, all course resources, and any external research and resources you have gathered.

“Exploring the Importance of New Religious Movements through Analytical and Historical Research” “Exploring Alternative Religions in America: From Communitarianism to New Age” Exploring Alternative Religious Movements: From Paganism to Conspiracy Theories
Prompt:
Format: As with the first paper, the assignment is to be 5-7 double-spaced pages in length and should be treated as a concise but in-depth presentation of a research topic. Please remember that this paper is NOT an occasion for you to expound upon your personal beliefs regarding the perceived merits or deficiencies of a religious tradition, individual, idea, or theme. You will instead concentrate on formulating a crisp and cogent thesis, fashioning this into a clear argument, and supporting your writing with appropriate documentation. Any style questions can be answered by me or by consulting either the MLA Handbook or The Chicago Manual of Style.
You must work closely with the texts you choose to consult. For this assignment, you’ll have to be especially careful about using online resources, due to the large amount of misinformation and useless, non-credentialed opinion out there. The internet is, at best, only a partially valid tool for research (and is generally only of use once one has mastered traditional forms of research and can distinguish a legitimate source from the dreck usually found online). Usually newspaper websites, journals, or online encyclopedia hosted by universities will be okay. Additionally, primary sources (a tradition’s website, for example) will be fine as well, as long as you engage them from an analytical perspective.
Assignment: You are to make an analytical and historical case – based on diligent research – for a specific subject’s importance to the study of NRMs. (Think in terms of recommending a course change to be me, but don’t write from this perspective.) That is, what new way of understanding course content does your chosen topic provide? Your topic can take a number of forms: 1) a new text that should be included, 2) a film or artistic expression that should be considered (a symphony, a series of paintings, etc.), 3) a theme that needs to be foregrounded (e.g. superhero stories as alternate religious imagination), 4) a figure or movement that should be discussed, or 5) a new WAY of looking at something we already cover. You must draw on the historical knowledge you’ve acquired thus far, justify the topic’s merit with reference to the readings we’ve done, and use appropriate additional research to make your case. Most importantly, this is your chance to be creative and (I hope) have some fun.

“Empowering Nurses through Mentorship and Collaborative Research: A Pathway to Professional Development and Social Change”
Please post a resonse to the post below by sharing your thoughts on their specialty, supporting their choice or offering suggestions if they have yet to choose.
Academic activities and achievements can be rolled into mentorship engagement and collaborative research activities to become professional development objectives.
Participation in mentorship programs first ensures access to vast knowledge and experience from practitioners in the field. The setting of goals by nurses will establish an effective mentor-mentee relationship in offering personalized guidance following the expressed career goals of the nurse (Mélanie Lavoie-Tremblay et al., 2019). For example, a nurse interested in growing into a leadership position would want to network with a nurse manager. They would like to learn some tips about good management practices and working around healthcare policy.
Second, collaborative research projects allow nurses to participate and foster interdisciplinary collaboration in this field and further knowledge exchange. They either integrate themselves into the already established groups of researchers or initiate work on projects referring to some of the pertinent health challenges. By doing so, nurses contribute not only to the advancement of evidence-based practice but also gain practical insights that could enhance care for the patient (Nguyen et al., 2020). For example, a nurse in the field of psychatry may decide to have a goal in collaboration with other researchers on the development of interventions about supportive care for mental health patients under treatment.
These practices resonate with the direction of Walden University toward social change, with the mandate to encourage a culture of dissemination of knowledge and collaborative problem-solving in the domain of nursing. The mentorship engagement will help develop supportive networks that would enable nurses to learn from each other’s experiences and perspectives in an inclusive and collaborative environment created within the profession.
Through collaborative research efforts, nurses are better positioned and empowered to take up their roles as key players in developing new knowledge and innovation in critical health problems that directly affect society. They help further develop others in the profession through mentorship and research engagement while enhancing professional development and the mission for improved healthcare outcomes and health equity. At the core, the nurse is championing the pathway for an equitable and sustainable system of care, which integrates academic goals as part of the mission for the career. -

For your book review paper, you will follow the attached rubric in terms of the outline and overall
content. Here, I provide some additional guidance…
1. Your papers should be a minimum of 5 pages in length, utilizing Times New Roman 12-point
font, with 1 inch margins. You should also include a cover page, which does not count towards
your minimum number of pages.
2. Regarding the author/sources section- this need not be very extensive, however you must
provide an overview of the author, his/her qualifications and discuss from where the
information was derived. This does not mean conducting a thorough review of each of the
sources/references, but a general overview since these are non-fiction works.
3. Your critique section is the main section of your paper, and should be broken up into 2 parts.
The first consists of an overview of the contents of the work, the emerging themes, and subject
of the book. In addition you will discuss the quality of the work (how well it is written and the
overall ‘success’ or ‘failure’ of the work to convey the main points/themes. The second section
involves your action thoughts, responses and reactions to the book. These should relate to the
content/themes identified and discussed above. In addition, this is where you critically evaluate
the intersection of ethics and policy throughout the work. You will identify clearly the policy
implications of the work, and evaluate these policies from an ethical standpoint. Draw from
your text in terms of ethical frameworks, and various concepts that may emerge that we have
discussed in class. Your summary/conclusion will draw upon these as you provide your overall
critique/opinion on the work.
4. Be sure to reference the other items on the rubric regarding use of quotes, organization,
mechanics, spelling and format. -

“The Impact of Themes, Characters, and Narrative Style in Last Call at the Nightingale”
Mini-Essay 1: Expository Essay on Beach Read
Prompt
According to the Purdue OWL, an expository essay “is a genre of essay that requires the student to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner.” For your first mini essay, you’ll be writing an expository essay about Emily Henry’s Beach Read.
The idea you’ll be using is Billy Mernit’s three-act structure of the romantic comedy.
Here are your goals when answering this quEstion:
Read Billy Mernit’s “The Romantic Comedy Story Concept”
Evaluate how well (or not) Emily Henry follows this story concept in Beach Read
Organize your evaluation into a well-organized argument with a thesis statement that clearly states your evaluation
Assignment Expectations
In order to complete this essay, you’ll also want to consider how the “enemies-to-lovers” trope and narrative arc impact the three-act structure. So, this essay requires you to synthesize multiple sources (Mernit and Henry, of course, but also our course lectures and discussions) into a cohesive evaluative argument (or, an expository essay). You’ll therefore need to quote, paraphrase, and summarize your various sources.
Assignment Requirements
There are several requirements for this essay. Aside from (obviously) meeting the prompt expectations, you’ll also want to ensure that you:
Use MLA formatting
Provide a Works Cited page
Meet the required word count of 500 words
Submit your essay on time
To help with the Works Cited requirement, here are the proper citation entries for Emily Henry and Billy Mernit:
Henry, Emily. Beach Read. Berkley, 2020.
Mernit, Billy. Writing the Romantic Comedy. Harper, 2020.
Prompt
When we read novels, we’re often transported to different worlds, literally in the cases of books such as A Court of Thorns and Roses, or figuratively, in the works of authors like Emily Henry. For this final mini essay of the semester, you’ll reflect on your reading experience of Last Call at the Nightingale by Katharine Schellman. In this essay, discuss how the themes, characters, or narrative style of the book (like Vivian’s POV) have impacted you over the last three weeks. Additionally, you might consider how your perception of the novel has changed over time. Or, you could think about how Schellman’s novel resonated with you and has contributed to your emotional or intellectual growth.
Here are your goals when writing this essay:
Reflect on your reading experience of Last Call at the Nightingale, using your reading journal entries and the prompt above
Provide a thesis statement that gives the reader an overview of your essay
Utilize quotes and other specific examples from Schellman’s novel to support your paragraphs
Assignment Expectations
In order to complete this assignment, you’ll want to incorporate your reading journal entries and your own analysis into a well-organized essay. Include quotes from Last Call at the Nightingale to demonstrate and support your thesis statement.
Assignment Requirements
There are several requirements for this essay. Aside from (obviously) meeting the prompt expectations, you’ll also want to ensure that you:

Expanding Horizons: A New Market Recommendation for XYZ Company Slide 1: Introduction – Greeting and introduction of yourself as an international business expert – Brief overview of the presentation topic and objectives Slide 2: Background of XYZ
Important; I only need 700-800 words not 1100 as this can only last about 5 MINUITES when spoken aloud. I had put 4 slides in the order cause I want at least 4 but NOT 1100 words as I couldnt adjust word count, thank you. Also if you could use powerpoint it would be prefferred.
Select ONE company from a country that you are culturally unrelated to (In this case outside of the U.S.A.). Imagine that you
are providing consultation to that company as an international business expert, and
recommend a new market for the company. Make sure to select a market that the company is
not currently involved in. Your presentation should briefly discuss about the company
(background, business operations, international components), and use research and
concepts/theory (1 or more) covered in class to justify your ideas, with also inccluding images or graphics. Some therioes or concepts covered in class are but not limited to risk management, comparative/competitive advantage, FDI or non FDI business, individualism vs collectivism, and extraterriterorality in business. (note you only need to incorporate one of those in the slides along with your main idea, I just gave some examples)
