Please use it and be as detailed as possible for each question, with 6-8 sentences per question.
1A. A 50-year-old male had a total thyroidectomy followed by thyroid hormonereplacement therapy. Thirty-six hours later he developed laryngeal spasms, a mild
tetany, and cramps in the muscles of the hands and arms. The following tests were
    performed:
    Urine calcium 20 mg/dL
    Urine phosphorus 0.1 g/day
    Plasma calcium 7.0 mg/dL
    Plasma phosphorus 5.0 mg/dL
Calcium gluconate and vitamin D (calcitriol) were given orally each day and the tetany
    and laryngeal spasms were alleviated.
    1. What endocrine disorder is present in this person?
    2. What is the purpose of vitamin D administration with the calcium?
    3. What caused the tetany and laryngeal spasms?
    4. How is blood calcium normally maintained at its physiological level?
1B. A 45-year-old male from the Midwest presented with the following symptoms

dehydration, and decreased cold tolerance. His blood chemistry values follow:
    Serum sodium 128 mEq/L
    Serum potassium 6.3 mEq/L
    Fasting blood glucose 65 mg/dL
    BUN 4.5 mg/dL
    Serum creatinine 0.5 mg/dL
Hematology tests resulted in the following values:
    Hematocrit 50%
    Leukocytes 5000/cu mm
Cont. of 1B: He also noticed increased pigmentation (tanning) of both exposed and
nonexposed portions of the body and back. A plasma cortisol determination indicated a
low cortisol level. Following administration of ACTH, plasma cortisol did not rise
significantly after sixty and ninety minutes. Endogenous circulating levels of ACTH were
later determined to be significantly elevated.

Title: Understanding Correlations, ANOVAs, and Chi-Squares in Statistical Analysis “Understanding and Applying Statistical Tests in Social Sciences Research” “Understanding Statistical Tests and Career Planning”

Complete a worksheet focused on correlations, ANOVAs, and chi-squares.
Text Book: Statistics for Psychology, 7th Edition
    ISBN: 9780136658313
By: Arthur Aron Ph.D.; Elaine N. Ar
Note: The assessments in this course build upon each other, so you are strongly encouraged to complete them in sequence.
One important difference between a t-test and a correlation is that t-tests compare two groups, while correlation compares two variables. Let’s take a moment to consider the difference between a group and a variable. If we are studying depression, we could have one group of people with depression and one group of people without depression. In this example, we are looking for a difference between the groups. On the
other hand, we could rate how depressed people were (from not depressed
at all to severely depressed). In this case, depression is a variable.
What do you do if you have more than two groups? Or more than two independent variables? That’s where analysis of variance (ANOVA) comes in, and it’s a powerful tool that allows us to compare more than two groups or variables at the same time.
What if your data are names and not numbers? We often look at data that are names (nominal data). The chi-square test is the tool to use when you have nominal data for one of your variables.
This assessment will have you demonstrate your knowledge of correlations, ANOVAs, and chi-square tests. You’ll again consider statistics-related careers as well. You’ll also continue to work with your data for Assessment 4.
Note: The assessments in this course build upon each other, so you are strongly encouraged to complete them in sequence.
Before you begin the assessment, complete the following:
Download the Planning for Your Data [DOCX] worksheet.
Below are the data files for your reference:
Note: The GSS Data 2018 [XLSX]
has all of the data for all of the variables. The other files are JASP-compatible files with two variables each. These data files are labeled with the names of the two variables. To find the data file for your specific project, look for the file that names both of your variables.
    News and Depress [CSV].
    News and Happy [CSV].
    News and Life [CSV].
    News and Mntlhlth [CSV].
    Raclive and Depress [CSV].
    Raclive and Happy [CSV].
    Raclive and Life [CSV].
    Raclive and Mntlhlth [CSV].
    Wwwhr and Depress [CSV].
    Wwwhr and Happy [CSV].
    Wwwhr and Life [CSV].
    Wwwhr and Mntlhlth [CSV].
Find another opening (different from the one you picked for Assessment 1) for a job you could apply for with a bachelor’s degree that requires the use of statistics—some good, key search terms: psychology research assistance or survey data analysis.
Complete and submit the Planning for Your Data [DOCX] worksheet.
    Tips for Success
Pay attention to when you are asked to copy and paste JASP information and when you are not asked to do so.
Do each step one at a time. Running statistical tests requires paying attention to details.
Pay special attention to which data file to use—you’ll use several of them.
Keep JASP, your textbook, and Statistical Analysis in JASP: A Guide for Students open when working on your worksheet.
Read, don’t skim, each part of the worksheet. The text will often help you find the answer.
Do the entire worksheet (it’s long).
When you are done, scroll to the very end of the document. Then scroll up slowly to double-check that you have an answer in each box. Going in reverse (from the end to the beginning) is often the best way to spot something you overlooked earlier.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your
proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring guide criteria:
Competency 1: Interpret complex statistical findings and graphs in the context of their level of statistical significance, including the influence of effect size.
    Interpret chi-square test results.
Interpret the results of a correlation test on the news and happy variable.
Interpret the results of a Spearman’s rho test on the news and life variables.
Interpret the results of an ANOVA test.
Competency 2: Apply statistical analyses to problems in the social sciences.
Describe nominal data and statistical analysis of nominal data.
    Perform a chi-square test.
Explain how a correlation differs from other statistical tests.
Perform a Pearson correlation test on the news and happy variables.
Perform a Spearman’s rho test on the news and life variables.
Explain how ANOVA are different from other statistical tests.
    Perform an ANOVA.
Explain when to use different statistical tests.
Identify your research question, statistical test, variables, and hypotheses for your final project.
Competency 4: Plan career contingencies based on accurate self-assessment of abilities, achievement, motivation, and work habits as they relate to statistics.
Plan career contingencies based on accurate self-assessment of abilities, achievement, motivation, and work habits.
Competency 6: Communicate quantitative data in statistics, graphs, tables, and in common language.
Communicate hypotheses and results of a Spearman’s rho test.

“The Impact of Amazon on Small Businesses: An Exemplification Essay”

Using one of the following prompts, write an exemplification essay:
    1. Choose a movie or TV show. What lessons can be learned from watching?
    2. What impact does the Amazon have on many small businesses?
    3. Do spices need to be put into baby’s food?
This is an exemplification essay which means it needs LOTS of EXAMPLES in each body paragraph.
On the first page of the essay, include an outline ( file attached)
Write the thesis statement that will be at the end of the introductory paragraph.
On the second page, begin your draft. It must be typed using the basic MLA page formatting guidelines.
Remember that your essay needs to have an introductory paragraph. Consider talking about the history, etymology, or current event correlation regarding your topic. The introductory paragraph also needs to have a three-part thesis statement. The three-part thesis statement should be the last sentence of your introductory paragraph. Follow the key features of a thesis statement when creating yours. Be sure that the body paragraphs have topic sentences and enough examples within each body paragraph for support. Finally, your essay needs a concluding paragraph restating your thesis and the main facts from each paragraph. You need to have at least two in-text citations and a works cited page. Title: “Homelessness: A Social Problem of Limited Opportunities and Basic Necessities” Thesis Statement: Homelessness limits opportunities in life, resulting in children and families lacking the basic necessities to survive. This social problem has a long history and Addressing the Social Problem of Homelessness: Causes, Consequences, and Possible Solutions “Creating Social Change: A Letter to a Public Official”

    Part 1-Thesis
Title your paper at the top of the first page (no separate title page) with your thesis statement-the social problem you are investigating (remember this is not a chapter title, but must be mentioned in some chapter of our textbook).  Think about the all of the parts of the the full project below as you develop your thesis statement (see below).
For example, “homelessness” is not a fully developed social problem statement, but “Homelessness limits opportunities in life, resulting in children and families lacking the basic necessities to survive.” is.
This mentions two things that would follow: lack of opportunity, lack of basic necessities. The parts of the project that follow would develop this.
As I look at Parts 2, 3, and 4, I see that I will need to investigate the history of homelessness, apply a theory from our class, research the causes and consequences of homelessness, critique things that have been tried to reduce homelessness, and propose a new and innovative solution to homelessness.  Lastly, I would need to find a politician to write a letter to about this problem and my solution.
Substantiate why this topic is in fact a social problem,  1-2 well-formed paragraphs.  Use information from your textbook, supplemental readings, and videos from class, no outside sources. Cite sources in APA style.
Tell why this social problem interests you as a group. 1 well-formed paragraph.
What one theory from class materials (do not use outside sources here) might be useful for understanding your social problem?  Tell about the theory (no need to make connections, just explain it).  At least one well-formed paragraph.  Use information from your textbook, supplemental readings, and videos from class first and supplement with outside sources. Cite sources in APA style.  We have been practicing this in the forums.
APA references with all sources used in sections 2 and 4 (for APA format, references start on a new page and are headed by the single word References).
Remember that you cite and reference what you read
Do not lift citations and references from your sources
If it’s listed in your references, you read this original source
Timeline: Tell me Who will do What and by When (be sure the “by when” is at least a couple of days before it’s due so that everyone has time to proofread and edit the entire project–don’t just proofread your contribution, read and edit the entire project-all parts; you can also take the project parts, before or after the peer reviews, to the TLC tutors for some feedback).  This is really just one project that is broken down into four major parts as you can see below.
    Part 2-History and Theory
The Problem (up to 1 full page, 5 pts).
This is a revision of what you turned in for the Social Problem Thesis assignment, sections 1 and 2 (and of course any references you used for sections 1 and 2 will be in your final references).
History (1-2 full pages, please no more than two full pages-be concise, 10 pts).
This section involves outside research (articles, websites, etc.) and also incorporates sources from class. At least five (5) sources should be used in this section.
I suggest you contact or check websites for any agency that works with people who have this problem as part of your research
Cite all sources in APA format
Remember that you cite and reference what you read
Do not lift citations and references from your sources
If it’s listed in your references, you read this original source
You may want to use the subtopics listed below as subheadings to help organize this section
Discuss the history of your social problem and how it came to be a social problem.
Who is benefiting from, and who is being exploited by, this social problem?
How has the problem changed over time? and What has caused it to change?
Discuss any stable features of the problem and what has caused them to remain stable (i.e., features that have not changed over time)
Theory (2-3 well-formed paragraphs, about 1 full page, 10 pts). This section comes from the textbook and your critical minds:
    Incorporate a discussion of theory.
At least one well-formed paragraph explaining all of the elements of the theory, as we have been practicing in the forums.
Create at least one well-formed paragraph to make very specific linkages between the elements of the theory you just explained to your social problem, as we have been practicing in the forums.
References (10 pts) in APA format, references start on a new page and are headed by the single word References.
*** In your answers to the above, define and discuss specific concepts from the class textbook and outside sources (articles, websites, etc.) and cite where you got your information in APA style.  When you discuss concepts or ideas from class materials or other sources be sure to define them in your own words and cite the source in APA style.  Do not quote I want to see your words and how you process the ideas of others.
    Part 3-Causes, Consequences, and Solutions
This part of the project involves outside research (articles, websites, etc.) and also incorporates sources from class. At least five (5) sources should be used in this section. some of the prior sources may be useful but you may have to find additional sources also.
Think about starting with a thesis statement, such as “The causes are A, B, and C.”  Then elaborate on A, then B, then C.  The consequences section might start with “The consequences are A, B, and C.” Then elaborate on A, then B, then C. You might have a heading for Causes and a separate heading for Consequences to help organize your writing.  Apply this same information to any paper you write with several sections.
Address the major sections below; use the major topics as headings:
Causes and Consequences (1-2 full pages, 10 pts).
Be sure to work in the social problem here so the reader is oriented as to what you are discussing.
This section comes from class materials and outside research (multiple sources should be used in this section)
Cite all sources in APA format
Remember that you cite and reference what you read
Do not lift citations and references from your sources
If it’s listed in your references, you read this original source
You may want to use the subtopics listed below as subheadings to help organize this section
One comprehensive statement that clearly states the problem.
What are the main causes of this problem?
What are the resulting consequences of this problem?
Possible Solutions (1-2 full pages, 10 pts).
This section involves you critiquing past solutions and proposing your own new solution
Cite all sources in APA format
Remember that you cite and reference what you read
Do not lift citations and references from your sources
If it’s listed in your references, you read this original source
You may want to use the subtopics listed below as subheadings to help organize this section
Critique past and current solutions that have been tried in order to alleviate this social problem.  Tell about some things that have been tried and tell why they didn’t work.
As a way to better accommodate members of society, what new solutions can you suggest?  This is something brand new, not something that has been tried before. Be creative here.  Explain thoroughly what this would be and why you think it would work.
Who are the major participants in the possible solutions?  Who has to do what to make this happen?
Summation (1 well-formed paragraph, 5 pts). This section comes from your critical minds:
Your thoughts about this problem and the possibility of it being solved in your lifetime.

Fully describe the social problem by giving information from the organizations you researched and information that you learned in in your group project (10 points).

Discuss why you are interested in making this change.
Tell who will benefit from this change.

Tips for Constructing a Letter or Email
Do not begin your letter by telling your audience that you are a student writing this letter for a class project!
Use correct address and salutation. Do not address the letter “To whom it may concern”; find out who it may concern and address it to that person specifically!
    Type the letter.
Use your own, carefully chosen words.
Stay focused in constructing your claim.
Be brief (no more than one page, single-spaced).
Be specific in constructing the problem and what you want your audience to do about it
Think about logos, ethos, pathos—which would be best for your audience?
Know your facts. Do some research and know what you are writing about.
If you are writing to a politician, find out how this person voted in the past and reference that in the letter.
Do not be threatening or intimidating. Be positive. Do not use negative or condescending language.
    Say thank you.
REMEMBER: All sources must be cited and referenced in APA format, but do not rely on the “cite” feature in the library database, it is often not correct.  We are not using MLA, Chicago, or you own creative style.  This is a 200 level class and it is important to learn how to use a style guide as you continue your education
    General Guidelines
Do not include a cover page, running head, or abstract; you don’t even need to put your names.
Use headings/subheadings to help you organize your paper and to orient me as to what you are discussing.
Do not quote I want to see your words and how you process the ideas of others.
Double space the paper and use a 12 point font.
You do not need a separate introduction, just address each section.  Each section should be a series of fully formed and cohesive sentences and paragraphs focused on the topic of that heading.  Include specific concepts, definitions, explanations, and links to class materials and outside sources as specified in the project prompt.
Use college-level English writing skills.  Proofread your papers.
Proofread and edit each other’s work.  Every student is responsible for every word, comma, citation, reference, etc.
Recall that for APA, every citation must appear in the references and every reference must be cited.
APA does not use long signal phrases such as “John Smith (2012) says in his article The Sociology of TV in the Journal Sociology…” Instead APA format would state “According to Smith (2012)…” APA does not care about first names, and the publication and article titles are in the reference list so do NOT state them in the text.   Do not do this to make your paper longer.  I will notice and you will be marked off.

Exploring the Ancient Contexts of Genesis 34: Uncovering Meaning in the Text

    Week 12 Exegesis
    Activity: What It Meant
This week in our Unit on the Pentateuch (or Torah),
we return to Genesis 34. This time, we are asking ourselves, “What kinds
of meanings would this text have had in its own ancient contexts? How can we
understand the text better by becoming more familiar with those ancient
contexts?” We are NOT (yet) concerned with our personal judgments
about those ancient contexts or meanings, and we are NOT (yet) concerned with
what the text might mean for communities today.
    Prepare:
Rapidly, gain access to the following resources
(find and use EACH OF THESE THREE KINDS):
Any and all course materials that might relate
to an understanding of Genesis 34 in its ancient contexts and as part of
the Book of Genesis; do not forget lectures, such as on Prophecy.
The commentary on Genesis is by Terence E.
Fretheim and is in Volume I of the New Interpreters Bible. This is
available in-person on non-circulating reserve in the Styberg Library, or
online via the Styberg Library: https://www-ministrymatters-com.turing.library.northwestern.edu/library/ Click link and select “Biblical
Commentaries” > “The New Interpreter’s Bible” and
navigate to the desired Volume; you may need to log in with NetID.
Any and all relevant essays or videos you may
find by searching Bible Odyssey: https://www.bibleodyssey.org/ . (Bible Odyssey contains short,
peer-reviewed essays on biblical studies.) Search, browse, and have
fun! Just stay on Genesis 34 (or 32-34), focus as much as possible on its
    ancient contexts, and don’t wander!
Explore these resources purposefully, staying on the
matter of Genesis 34 in its ancient contexts and as a part of the Book of Genesis.
(Not, for example, how later communities have read Genesis.) Take notes.
    Now:
    Post:
Write a total of about 500 words, addressing the
following. Follow these prompts in detail!
Typically, your resources will have broad
agreement about what kinds of things one must know in order to
understand the meaning(s) of Genesis 34 in its ancient contexts.
Regarding Genesis 34, in what ways do these resources agree with each
other about what kinds of things one must know in order to
understand the meaning(s) of Genesis 34 in its ancient contexts?
Often, your resources will have some notable
disagreements with one another (about matters of fact, or perhaps
major differences of emphasis). Regarding Genesis 34, what kinds of
disagreements do you find in your resources?
When you engage the realities of the ancient
world that gave rise to the stories of Genesis, do you find that any
“familiar” aspects of Genesis 34 become unfamiliar? Do you find
that any “strange” aspects of Genesis 34 become less strange?
Overall, how do you see Genesis 34 differently,
now that you have engaged scholarly conversation partners in an
    exploration of “what it meant”?

The Long-Term Effects of Abandonment on Children: A Psychological Perspective

I am a junior in an Honors English class with a very picky teacher. It is important to note that this paper should sound like a research paper and not a book report as my teacher emphasizes.
My teacher wants the first paragraph to be an introduction/history/background of the topic. No concrete definitions of the word abandonment, but a sort of summary of what it is and how it has been researched, and how it affects children as they grow up. The first paragraph should have a flow quote. (8ish well developed sentences)
The second paragraph should be about how abandonment affects the relationships they make as a child and older. This should include a flow quote. (10ish well developed sentences)
The third paragraph should be about how abandonment affects the emotions of these people as they grow up and when they are older. Also should include a flow quote. (10ish well developed sentences)
The fourth paragraph is about how abandonment affects the behaviors of these people- how they act as a kid and as an adult. Also should include a flow quote. (10ish well developed sentences)
The fifth paragraph should be about how treatments and long term outlooks for abandonment. Include flow quote. (8ish well devleoped sentences).
    No conclusion.
Also do not do concluding sentences at the end of paragraphs. Also in the intro paragraph make sure to include the thesis as the very first sentence (what the topic is/what my claim/point is)
Do not include quotes that mention neglect, as neglect and abandonment aren’t the same.
The first source to incorporate is: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10298591/#:~:text=The%20child%20who%20experiences%20abandonment,loss%20of%20trust%20in%20people. (The title is “is rejection, parental abandonment or neglect a trigger for higher perceived shame and guilt in adolescents?”)
The article I attached about “Child Abandonment: Historical, Sociological, and Psychological Perspecties” is what to incorporate as well.
The Nature of Child Neglect article attached should also be used but if cannot find enough information, find another source that ends in .gov or .org.
