  • The Power of the Written Word: A Comparison of The Hate U Give Book and Movie Adaptation

Write an essay that compares the book The Hate U Give to the movie following this prompt: As movies become more technologically enhanced, people are forgetting about the stories and books they are based on. More people should be reading the books the movies came from instead of waiting for the movie to be released in a local theatre. Not only are books more substantial, but they can also become more entertaining than the movies themselves. Do you agree with this statement?
Your essay should answer the following questions:
What is the title and author of the book, as well as the title and director of the film (and year released)? Briefly summarize the plot of each. Was the plot/character/s/setting/era of the film true to the book (for example, were some characters eliminated from the film that were in the book?)  Focus on discussing 2-3 key aspects/scenes rather than merely listing all the similarities and differences. Did the plotline change from book to movie? If so, how? Were there aspects of the film that were improved upon by the artistic license of the director compared to the book? What were they, and how did they improve the film? Overall, do you believe books are more substantial and entertaining than their movie adaptations? Why/why not? Which do you recommend more? The book? The movie? Both? Neither? Please explain!

    Assignment 4 – Research Paper
    Instructions
Using a minimum of seven (7) credible sources, with at least four (4) sources coming from peer-reviewed journals taken from the APUS library, write a research paper about a topic related to your major or intended career, which follows the problem solution strategy. The paper must be original to this course–no recycling, please!  Also, the paper should not contain AI generated text.
Format your paper according to the guidelines that are given for your particular discipline. You must choose one of the following documentation styles: APA, MLA, or Chicago.
Length: The research paper should be 2000 – 2500 words (9-10 pages) in length. The page count does not include the Works Cited, Reference, or Bibliography page, or the title page or abstract if required by your documentation style. The page count refers only to the text of the paper itself. Submitting a paper that is doesn’t fall within the word count range is not a good idea. Papers that are too long are as problematic as those that are too short. Part of effective writing is being able to complete the assignment within the designated limits set.
Sources:  Your final source page should contain at least seven (7) sources, with at least four (4) sources coming from peer-reviewed journals taken from the APUS library; you will lose points if you have fewer.
DISCLAIMER: Originality of attachments will be verified by Turnitin. Both you and your instructor will receive the results.

    Assignment 2 – Annotated Bibliography
    Instructions
Using the information from this week’s reading material, submit an Annotated Bibliography of five (5) sources from your working bibliography. Two (2) of the sources must be peer reviewed article. First, put the source in the correct citation format for your particular curricular division, and then write a brief annotation of that source.  The annotation should describe the main ideas covered in the source as well as an evaluation by you for the source’s usefulness for your project. The value of the source to your project should be included, as well as information about the credentials of the author(s).
Remember that an online source can be a number of things. It can be a book, journal article, blog, podcast script, website, government report, newspaper article or editorial, or something else. Be sure to analyze each source carefully and follow the style guide in presenting the needed info.  One goal in your annotation is to help your readers find the source if they want more information, so make it easy for them to do so.

Lucy Calkins is a noted teacher and researcher in reading and writing. Her book is a guide for parents, helping them to work with their children’s schools to create a positive learning environment and a lifelong love of learning in their children.  Topics covered include fostering learning and curiosity in mathematics, science, social studies, reading, and writing.  Calkins’ work also offers advice on school curriculum and testing. By providing specific examples of parental involvement, this book will help support my assertion that parents need to play a strong role in their children’s education.

  • Title: Integrating Source Materials: Quote and Paraphrase

Integrating Source Materials (Quote and Paraphrase)
Find a quote you like and get the complete citation for it. Follow the instructions below for integrating and paraphrasing the quote. Both quoting and paraphrasing need a signal phrase to introduce the source material and both require appropriate in-text citation in the style for the topic.
    • Following the “sandwich technique” described in this week’s required reading, post a direct quotation from one of your sources as it would appear within the body of your research paper. Introduce your quote with a signal phrase. Provide some commentary for the quote. Include an in-text citation.
    • Next, paraphrase the same quotation and use a signal phrase and closing commentary to demonstrate how the paraphrase would appear in your research paper. Include an in-text citation.
When you respond to peers about integrating source materials, please provide feedback on how smoothly the quote is integrated and how well the paraphrase reflects the content of the original.
