Think about your all-time favorite film. Identify what genre it falls into, for example, action, drama, suspense, horror, comedy, fantasy, sci-fi, etc. Research that film specific to the 5 elements of film (Story, Cinematography, Mise-en-scene, Editing, and Sound). Smarthistory is a wonderful art historical resource that features short, informative explanations to many works of art. However, its offerings in Asian art (and many non-Western regions′ art) remain limited. For our final project, you will have an opportunity to write your own entry in the style of Smarthistory.org introducing a work of art that is not on the website. The work can be from any Asian region or it can be from your own culture.

prepare a research paper focused on one work of design. Papers must employ the critical study of design while focusing on one work of design in any medium that was designed before 1980 (other works might be introduced in comparison, but the detailed focus should remain on one work).
