“Money and Marriage: Exploring the Intersection of Love, Economics, and Inequality”
https://www.everydaysociologyblog.com/2020/02/money-and-marriage.html
^^^^^link to reference
In an Everyday Sociology blog post titled “Money and Marriage,” Karen Sternheimer examines the economics of marriage, looking at historical practices ranging from dowries and arranged marriages to contemporary rituals such as Valentine’s Day gifts. She draws upon recent research on marriage and cohabitation from the Pew Research Center, which concludes that while most married couples report marrying for love, more than half of cohabiting couples report that financial issues are keeping them from getting married.
Discuss the ways in which marriage relates to money. Based on this blog post, is there any way to separate the two? Discuss how romantic rituals like Valentine’s Day intertwine relationships with consumption and spending. How does this reflect and reproduce broader issues of economic inequality? -

“Nature vs. Nurture: The Impact of Socialization on Individual Development in “The Secret of the Wild Child””
The film you watched “The Secret of the Wild Child” by Nova is about the nature/nurture debate, among other things. Lenneberg and Chomsky’s Critical Period Hypothesis about language acquisition is also discussed in the film. After viewing the film think about the importance of socialization in helping to make the individual. Are we largely nature (biological) or nurture (environment)?
Question: Did the case studies of Genie and Victor that you saw in the film support the idea that a nurturing environment could make up for a horrendous past? This doesn’t mean erase the past; it means helps to cope with the past. Can nurturing heal and move people forward? Support your position using evidence from the film (no fence sitting).

Title: Sociological Analysis of Deviant Behavior in Recent Crime Article
STEP 1: Find a current article about a crime that has been committed within the past three weeks. Look for language within the article that lends itself to a sociological explanation of the deviant behavior using one or more of the theories of deviance. You should not Google “crime” or “deviance” to find a current events article related to crime and deviance; rather, check reputable online news sources or an actual article about a crime or deviant behavior. There are always major deviant acts each week that make the national and local news.
Articles should be a minimum of 500 words, recent (within three weeks), relevant (related to crime, deviance, and social control), and from a reputable news source (many colleges provide free access to national news sources).
STEP 2: Write a thorough summary of the article.
STEP 3: Using your sociological imagination, write an analysis of the article that connects the main idea/s of the article to specific key terms and theories from this module on “Deviance, Crime and Social Control.”
STEP 4: Please reference the article in APA format and include the link to your article and check for any writing errors.
