  • End of Life Planning: Living Will, Advanced Directives, and Funeral Arrangements

Times New Roman Font, 12, Double Spaced.
Two parts. Number each part. -3 for each formatting error.
    No cover page..
Name at top left of first page, Last Name, First Name.
    1. Prepare a living will and/or an advanced directive.
What medical treatment and options do you want or do you not want? What about if you are in a persistent vegetative state?
How do you want to be memorialized, what to you want to be done with your body or ashes?
There is much more to a living will/advanced directive than the questions above – those are first steps. Baby steps.
Put it all in there. Everything. EVERYTHING. 2. Discuss how you want your memorial service or funeral to be run. Plan your funeral, your arrangements, your anything, your EVERYTHING post funeral. Party? Ashes poured into the sea? Set adrift on a burning ship? A quiet affair or a raucous block party? No funeral? That’s a plan too.
By everything, I mean details of what you want – (Question 1 stuff) what feeding and hydration and heroic attempts while alive, and (Question 2 stuff) flowers and parties you want when you aren’t.
Do NOT just download a living will and just fill and check boxes. No points will be awarded for just checking off boxes on a from. I am asking you to write it out and explain what you want, and why.
DO find the format for a living will /advanced directive to answer Question 1. Do not put you name on the document; do not provide your personal details (address, social security number), anything. I want to see your wishes and preferences for your living will, advanced directives and the handling of your funeral, not personal identifiers. I want you to write out what you want, and tell me why. If you decide on a person who will be your power of attorney for health care, say friend, or family member, I do not want their personal information. Short and not well planned out papers do not – cannot ever earn full points. Look up examples of living wills and advanced directives. Our text does an excellent job of presenting these ideas, and provides online resources to investigate to learn more.
Cite everything. Every idea, every concept, every source.

In an Everyday Sociology blog post titled “Money and Marriage,” Karen Sternheimer examines the economics of marriage, looking at historical practices ranging from dowries and arranged marriages to contemporary rituals such as Valentine’s Day gifts. She draws upon recent research on marriage and cohabitation from the Pew Research Center, which concludes that while most married couples report marrying for love, more than half of cohabiting couples report that financial issues are keeping them from getting married.
Discuss the ways in which marriage relates to money. Based on this blog post, is there any way to separate the two? Discuss how romantic rituals like Valentine’s Day intertwine relationships with consumption and spending. How does this reflect and reproduce broader issues of economic inequality?
