  • “The Matrix: A Sociological Analysis through the Lens of Max Weber’s Theory of Rationalization”

    For this 4-to-6-page paper, you are going to use the frameworks and ideas forwarded by one of the Sociological theorists that we have discussed in class to analyze an aspect of contemporary popular culture.  Specifically, you are going to analyze the movie The Matrix through the eyes of 1 of the sociologists that we go over in this class.  
    Assignment:
    Pretend that you discovered that one of these theorists had written the screenplay for the film.  It is your job to uncover all the evidence that he left behind.  What parts of the film were influenced by their theorist’s ideas?  Were there any underlying messages that you think he wanted to send to the audience?  Be sure to clearly explain and define each of the concepts relevant to your thesis and give specific examples from the movie.
    Reference: 
    You need to include at least 3 academic sources (peer-reviewed journals, academic monographs, newspaper, books, or relevant academic source).  At least 1 should be from the class-assigned readings.   All three of them should be directly related to the research question that you examine.
