In this paper, you must demonstrate that you can think critically and apply the essentials of social methodology and research methods that you have learned in the course. This paper includes all the textbooks and additional readings we reviewed. Use the proposal (and its instructions) you presented at the beginning of the course. To evaluate your final paper, I will compare the proposal and your completed paper.
The final paper should be 6 pages in length (approx. 1500 words ), 12pt Times New Roman, double spaced, 1 inch margins)
Must use at least five peer-reviewed materials and include bibliography. APA, ASA, Chicago are preferred citation styles. -

Only the readings attached can be used for this paper! Thank You. -
“Making a Difference: Advocating and Fundraising for a Cause Close to Your Heart”
During the course of this class, we learn all about our interactions within society, as an individual, how we make up various groups, statuses, and contribute to or impact society. One of the ways we contribute to society is by giving back to society and helping those in need. Take a few moments and think about something you are really passionate about. This could be advocating for those with disabilities, helping the homeless, volunteering at city food banks or soup kitchens; mentoring a child, or even sharing a special skill set with others who are less fortunate or don’t have the means to engage in such an activity.
This paper will be researched based but will also include a creative component. Once you determine a topic you are passionate about, I want you to research more into the topic. Find a group that exists to raise awareness to the topic and research them as well. Lastly, I want you to develop a “hypothetical” fundraiser for event for this topic and group (i.e. if you were tif organize a fundraiser for this topic, the plan and steps you would take to do so. This means you do not actually have to organize this event, rather just a hypothetical event.)
Paper must be typed in APA format with cover page and reference page (Times Roman size 12 Font, 1″ margins all around).
I do not like to set page limits, but a good guideline for this paper is about 5 pages not counting cover or reference page (more pages is ok!)
Your paper should include:
Cover page (5 points)
Body of report (60 Points)
Intro-overview of the topic you are passionate about
Body of report
History or background of the topic you would like to raise awareness to
Statistics on prevalence of identified topic
Identify what group or population you are advocating for
Identify the need for fundraising, who would benefit, how the funds would be used, etc.
Identify an established charity group pertaining to the topic and outline their mission and purpose

“Threshold Concepts and Post-College Preparedness: Reflecting on the Value of a College Degree and Its Impact on Future Goals”
This paper will have two sections; each section should be no shorter longer than 800 words (for a total of between 1300-1600 for the entire assignment). You can separate each section with a heading.
The overall goal of this paper is for you to apply the theory of threshold concepts to your college experience in order to help you to articulate your experience to others in terms of learning, knowledge, future application, and skills. Firstly, this paper is designed for you to apply aspects of threshold concepts to the overall educational experience and frame the knowledge you have received in college. Secondly, the paper is designed for students to build on those threshold concepts of knowledge to discuss how specifically they will contribute to future goals and aspirations. If it helps, think of part one as a theoretical/philosophical discussion of your learning in college and the second part as how that learning is going to be applicable to your life beyond college.
If it helps, think of section 1 as a more philosophical discussion of the value of the degree that incorporates the threshold concept framework. Think of section 2 as translating some of the concepts from section 1 into concepts that are helpful for you to apply those concepts to employers, graduate school, etc. So you will be talking about concrete things such as skills, knowledge, and evidence.
Section 1
Guiding Question: How would you articulate the value of your degree?
Create an original thesis that summarizes college experience. While short, this should be a strong and concise statement of the theme of your paper.
How would you articulate what you have gained from your college experience?
Use the Threshold Concept theory to frame your discussion.
Consider how being an interdisciplinary major can influences this discussion
In what ways has your college experience influenced the way you will approach post-college challenges (professional and personal)? Think about the discussion of education as transformative.
Section 2 (700-800 words)
Guiding Question: In what ways has your college experience degree (sociology, communications, or psychology) have prepared you for your post-graduation goals?
How did your overall college experience do to prepare you for your post-graduation, life in the real world.
Building on section 1, what specific skills have you developed that will help you achieve your post-graduation goals of getting a job and starting a career.
What evidence can you use to support your claim of knowledge/skills?
Consider how being in an interdisciplinary major influences this discussion
What is the best way to articulate the above concepts to those in a field you wish to enter? -
Title: Prospecting for a Sociological Perspective: Exploring [Topic]
Your
prospectus is an opportunity for you to start planning for your final paper. I
encourage you to pick a topic that is related from your SOC 101 Assignment and
to use the feedback I have given you to construct this midterm. You can also
continue a more in-depth discussion of your topic. Although you can choose your
own topic and paper format, you must approach the topic from a sociological
perspective and make clear links to the course. The majority of the readings in
your literature review, for example, should be from sociological journals (e.g.,
Sociology of Education, Sociological Inquiry, Sociological Forum, etc.) and/or
written by authors who utilize sociological perspectives in their work.
Your
prospectus should be 3-4 pages double spaced and should include the following:
• Summary
of topic, clear statement of focus or sociological lens, and significance
•
Statement of relevance to the course
• List of
potential references that includes an annotated bibliography of at least 2
readings
from class and 2 you’ll be using that could be outside of class (in
APA
format)
• Methods
(e.g. how you will conduct your lit review)
•
Timeline/work plan
*Your
prospectus can be part narrative (paragraphs), and part outline/bulleted
points.
