Background: For many sociology students (and sociologists), secondary research can seem like the most “boring” research method because it is conducted without interacting with anyone; however, using secondary data, we are able to glean a great deal from utilizing existing statistical information, and it is a method that is cost- and resource-effective.
STEP 1: Part A–Navigate to Census.govLinks to an external site.. Part B–Poke around a bit and determine a research question (keep it simple) that could be answered through the data available to you. Part C–Find a bivariate (2 variable) table to examine that piques your interest. Or PEW research center or Social Science Data Analysis Network (SSDAN)Links to an external site. and is comprised of data from the American Community Survey (ACS), an annual Census-like survey. Part D–Cut and paste or screen shot the data into your project.
STEP 2: Identify the independent variable and the dependent variable that could be tested based on this graph. Explain how you are determining which variable is which.
STEP 3: Summarize the bivariate table by making at least 3 TRUE statements about the variables using the data (the percentages) provided.
STEP 4: Use your sociological imagination to analyze the data. This should be a minimum of 2-3 sentences.
STEP 5: What course material can you connect that helps you make sense of the results you are seeing.
STEP 6: What policy recommendations would you make based on the data? This should be a minimum of 2-3 sentences.

“Exploring the Relationship Between Unemployment Rates and Gender: A Sociological Research Study” “The Effect of Sex on Unemployment Rates: A Comparison of Male and Female Unemployment in 2023” Introduction: Unemployment is a major concern in any economy, as it affects not only individuals but also the overall health of the society.
Research Project
The final paper will include an introduction, literature review, data and methods, findings, conclusion and reference section. Please use my handout “Format of Most Sociological Papers” for specific information that is required to be included in each Below, I have provided a check list to be sure that you have included the most important elements of each section.
INTRODUCTION
What is the research question and why is it important?
Introduce your key variables.
LITERATURE REVIEW
(Each student must find and include at least 1 peer-reviewed article to support their research)
(Do not call this section “Literature Review”. Instead, name it something about the relationship between your variables. Look at other articles for examples).
What is the research topic?
Why is it important?
Do you propose an hypothesis? If so, state it.
Each student is required to find (and include) at least 1 applicable scientific article in this section. (Remember to cite it in the body of the essay (Last name year), and in the REFERENCE section using ASA format:
A literature review should try to answer questions such as
Who are the key researchers on this topic?
What has been the focus of the research efforts so far and what is the current status?
How have certain studies built on prior studies? Where are the connections? Are there new interpretations of the research?
Have there been any controversies or debate about the research? Is there consensus? Are there any contradictions?
Which areas have been identified as needing further research? Have any pathways been suggested?
How will your topic uniquely contribute to this body of knowledge?
Which methodologies have researchers used and which appear to be the most productive?
What sources of information or data were identified that might be useful to you?
How does your particular topic fit into the larger context of what has already been done?
How has the research that has already been done help frame your current investigation? DATA
I will pick Sex as my X and measure it as Male and Female. I will pick 2023. The 2023 unemployment for men is 3.8 and the rate for women is 3.5.
Define measures and unit of analysis
The data are drawn from the insert the data source agency that I will attach below. They include information from the year/s insert the years of your data. They include the population/sample of insert the group being surveyed and include n=insert the number of cases in the study insert the unit of analysis here – people, nations, schools, etc.. These data are particularly useful for the analysis because they include measures of insert your measures here. The data are not perfect as they do not consider insert any draw backs or limitations here. Despite this limitation, they do consider the key measures of this study.
{Choose population or sample. If your data include all people (like all college students) write “population”; if your data are a sample, write the word “sample.” Choose year OR years – if your study is a snapshot of 1 year, use “year”; if it spans multiple years use “years.”}
EXAMPLE
The data are drawn from the Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics. They include information from the year 2017-2018. They include the population of all high school students in Los Angeles Unified School District (N=170,093). These data are particularly useful for the analysis because they include measures of race and gender and graduation rates. The data are not perfect as they do not consider students who have dropped out prior to 9th grade. Despite this limitation, they do consider the key measures of this study.
METHODS
Describe how will you conduct your study. The study will measure the effect of insert your independent variable here on insert your dependent variable here. It will compare insert the units of analysis here by insert race, class or gender here, specifically by considering how insert your measures here pattern the outcome of interest. EXAMPLE
The study will measure the effect of sex on unemployment. It will compare male and female unemployment FINDINGS
Describe what you found. Does it support your hypothesis? Rejected? Theory holds? Refuted?
Each analysis MUST have at least one graphic representation of the findings (table or figure).
CONCLUSION
Synthesize your research with existing knowledge.
REFERENCES
In addition to the literature I provide, you must locate and incorporate 1 article in your project. ASA format only Please save your paper as a pdf or doc/docx file — no cloud submissions are accepted.
I do not require a specific page count. I can imagine this being as short as 3 or 4 pages, double spaced.
Intro – a paragraph or 2
Literature review of one article – a paragraph or 2
DATA – one short paragraph
METHODS – one short paragraph
FINDINGS – some text, Figure, and more text ( 2 paragraphs and the figure)
DISCUSSION or CONCLUSION – – a paragraph or 2
REFERENCES – on their own page Be sure to only use percentages and not counts (raw numbers). (RATES) I HAVE ATTACHED ALL NECESSARY FILES INCLUDING THE DATA THAT WILL BE USED DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SOURCES BESIDES PEER REVIEWED ARTICLES FROM GOOGLE SCHOLAR OR THE ONES ATTACHED DO NOT PLAGIARIZE I WILL BE CHECKING MAKE SURE EVERYTHING FLOWS TOGETHER I WILL GIVE A GREAT TIP I will pick Sex as my X and measure it as Male and Female. The Y will be Unemployment. I will pick 2023 for the year. The 2023 unemployment for men is 3.8 and the rate for women is 3.5. -
Title: The Impact of Social, Economic, and Cultural Contexts on the Country Response to COVID-19: A Case Study Analysis Introduction: The emergence of COVID-19 has had a significant impact on countries around the world, with varying responses
In a case study of your choice, discuss the social, economic and cultural contexts in which COVID-19 has emerged and evaluate how these have shaped the country response(s) to the pandemic.
You would need to first give background to the case study (country, setting(s), population(s) of interest, etc.) you will go on to describe and give an overview of COVID-19 in that country throughout the different waves and for different populations. You could then move on to discuss your case study using relevant literature on the topic to discuss the contexts above and their shaping of the response.
Use the key concepts and theories you have learnt throughout the course to give some depth to your critical analysis.
Please rewrite and improve this article as required. Please pay attention to the plagiarism rate. -
Title: Sociological Perspectives on Challenges and Social Change in the Institution of Religion
Part 1:
With respect to the sociological institution you focused on this week, share one detail that stood out to you. How would a conflict theorist say some of the challenges within this institution are? What would a structural functionalist say some of the challenges are? Apply the paradigms with as much specificity and clarity in the details from your chapter as possible, since most people will not have read your chapter.
Part 2:
With respect to the sociological institution you focused on this week, what is some social change you would like to see? Explain why and explain the first few steps you would take to effect that social change. What role can/should sociologists be playing with respect to this issue? Be sure you are illustrating that you read Chapter 21 in your response to this.

“Media Forms and Their Impact on Society: A Critical Analysis”
Please upload your file to this link.
The paper has to connect to the readings, films and class discussions!
Your paper should be between 8-10 double-spaced pages.
You can elaborate on an earlier work of yourself or analyze a new media or conceptual problem.
Do not just stay at the level of content but grapple with the form that mediates, grounds, constructs the content. In the class specifically we looked at temporal forms from film to televisual flow to social media time-lines; how each determined a media-environment. By analyzing the form we also traced historical transformations in society affecting economic mode of production of commodities, values, new modes of labor; cultural trends in becoming subjects through media.
You will be graded on depth of your treatment of your subject matter; how well you formulate your problem, question or your approach; your articulation that threads principles, arguments, explanations with examples; your style through which you develop your own idiom of writing; your engagement with existing literature and your contribution to collectively addressed problems in the field and finally originality.
These are each important aspects but I do not expect you to focus on each and all of them or present a line of writing that expresses each of these qualities. For instance, your paper does not have to an extremely originaly perspective and instead might work on furthering incomplete lines of thinking that were developed in the texts, lectures or your own response papers. But, I will value your work that presents a profound rethinking of assumptions or brings in a new concept or quality to well-throdden forms of thinking (remember our discussion of the idea of “softness” in the last class found in the film “stalker”which was quite original).
These creteria are not weighed equally and uniformly for each project. You should take them as more paths you can follow to improve your writing. I will grade based on what’s there and not based on what’s not there.
Let me know if you have questions. -
“The Evolution of Maturity: How Changing Societal Norms Impact Sexual Activity”
A century ago, people reached sociological maturity (completed necessary formal education) in the early-mid teens before or as they reached physical maturity (ability to reproduce) in the late teens. Nowadays people are sexually mature at age 12 and it is another 10-12 years before they complete their education and are considered in a position to form families in ways that are sociologically or financially viable (post education completion). How do the changes in age of maturity in various components of our lives lead to new ideas around sexual activity? (Be sure to utilize information from our readings. Be sure to cite sources.
