Title: “Addressing Recidivism and Structural Inequalities in the Black Community: A Critical Race Theory Perspective”
Research Paper Outline
Each section should have citations. Any thought that
is not yours, should have a citation. 12-15 pages double spaced, Times Roman. You
should have total of 25 references; You are free to have more. They must be
peer-reviewed scholarly articles. Any government, organization, blog, etc. can
be used after the 25 have been met. Citation suggestions for each section is
just a suggestion. You can have more or less in each section.
Introduction (3-5 citations)
–
Problem statement
–
What will you investigate specifically?
–
Significance of your study
Literature Review (5-10 citations)
–
Relevant articles that address your
dependent and independent variables
–
Your annotated bibliography will help you
to write your literature review, because you already have the information.
–
For example, Johnson (2018) argues that
recidivism is a problem in the Black community, because of a lack of resources.
Structural inequalities would best be addressed in communities of color if an
increase in economic opportunities were present. As stated by Brown (2015) in a
review on Black men and re-entry, communities benefit as a whole when returning
citizens are offered jobs. This will also help families…etc. As Clara Jackson
argues (2016), families, will, etc. etc. NOTICE WHAT I DID….Cite, provide your
argument, without saying I but in an affirmative voice, and then support it
with another citation, etc.
Theoretical Framework (2-5 citations)
–
You need to not only define what the
theory is, but how it is used to support your argument.
–
Critical Race theory is important in
addressing school punishment against Black girls, because Black girls are
overrepresented in punishment. Etc. etc.
Methodology (10-20 citations)
–
Is this quantitative or qualitative? What
is the difference?
Data Collection
–
Who are your participants? How will you
find them?
–
How many participants will you have? Focus
group? Interviews? How long will it be?
–
Where was the geographic location of your
study
–
What is the demographic of your
participants
–
Where and how did you find your
participants? What was your method? Be Specific
Sampling
–
What is your specific sampling technique?
(Read & cite your book)
–
How will you protect your participants
confidentiality? i.e. no names, lockbox with recorder?
Data Analysis
–
How will you analyze your findings?
–
You should also include your research
questions.
–
What are the major themes of your data
collection? i.e. Fear, Loyalty, Pride
For example:
Research Question 1: What prevents Black males from
reporting on campus sexual assault?
“I ain’t even trying to answer all that. I’m a G about
mine, so if I got touched, like, what that make me look like, feel me? I ain’t
snitching, cuz then it’s like, it’s like a catch 22. I snitch, I look soft. I
tell I got touch, I’m looking like a Bi%$H, I aint, I’m a man, I’m a man.”
This respondent appears to have a fear of being viewed
as less than a man….etc. (continue to analyze what the respondent has said)
Having cultural awareness during data analysis is
important because (cite the book). As Participant #2 stated “at the end of the
day, the day gone end.” This participant is seemingly suggesting that …..
Conclusion
–
Policy implications? Why is this
important? How did you fill the gap in literature? -
Data Collection and Research Management Plan: Investigating the Effectiveness of Flexible Seating on Off-Task Behavior in the Classroom
Once a research focus is selected, the vision and target have been clarified, and research questions have been developed, a researcher begins to plan data collection and research management based on the research questions. Data collection takes on different formats, such as observation, surveys, samples, documents, multimedia materials, assessments, and interviews. This is the fourth step of the action research process. Data provides the researcher with the ability to investigate authentic behaviors, responses, and work samples in an attempt to respond to the research questions.
Having a plan on how you will collect or organize data and manage the research process is an essential component of action research and will help guide future topic assignments in this course.
Review the “TCH-539 Research Management Example” and then complete the “TCH-539 Data Collection and Research Management Plan” template.
Support your work with a minimum of two scholarly resources.
FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS:
For your assignment this week I wanted to make sure that you recognize a few things:
(a) our course is building on prior week’s content. You stared in the first week and identified two broad topics that might be worth some action research. Last week, you chose ONE of those to do some further investigation within scholarly sources. This week you will build a research plan (which is basically a “how to” for your action research study if/when you can carry it out).
(b) Don’t overthink this work. Action research is practical and practice-based. It’s what we do in our everyday teaching lives, so we are simply being a bit more purposeful about the process, the documentation of the process, and the reflection of what we’ve learned. Nothing about action research should scare you or feel out of reach for you. If it does, reach out to me so we can chat.
(c) You have a template AND an exemplar assignment provided in this week’s assignment. Look at the exemplar and imagine the teacher conducting that action research project. It’s a real teacher and a real problem that was identified in their classroom. Then, shift to the blank template and lay out your steps. Think carefully about why this is an important area to study, how you might collect data (this might be observations of student habits, tracking grades, tracking levels of participation on a checklist, etc.). Again, keep it simple. If I am seeking to understand if flexible seating in my classroom will decrease off-task behavior, I might keep a tally and a timer to document off-task times during a particular week or a particular period. I also might chart the type of off-task behaviors that are occurring (distracting others, self-distraction, etc). Again, keep it simple. -
“Exploring the Themes and Impact of David William Plummer’s Secrets of the Autistic Millionaire: A Literature Review”
I would like to use David William Plummer’s novel Secrets of the Autistic Millionaire for this assignment which means you MUST be willing to read the book.
Download/ read the handout on writing a literature review posted in the module on 4/16/24. In addition, I have also posted a literature analysis chart format that you can use to organize your literature on the same date. (both documents are attached below)
Read and follow instructions.
Before uploading the paper, ensure you include a copy of your introduction and purpose statement; this is essential as I need to know the focus of your proposal to evaluate the literature review.
Please ensure that your paper has a title and a name.
Your literature review should be around five pages. It is more important that you discuss all the relevant points in-depth than the actual page number. The actual page number will vary based on the conciseness of the language (use concise language) and the complexity of the topic. -
“Exploring the Use and Perceived Value of Technology in Higher Education: A Critical Analysis of Research and Self-Reflection on Methodology and Results”
This is it! All of your hard work from the past two semesters comes together here.
The body of your paper will include a literature review, in which you display your critical thinking skills to analyze research quality. You will share your own hypothesis and methods, again thinking critically about the strengths and weaknesses of your own research. You will share your results, and interpret them for your reader. Think critically about your own work and explore any bias or shortcomings your research might have.
You will demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of your research, and explain how your research is relevant to your field and the broader intellectual community (i.e. why your research matters outside of this course).
Your paper must be written professionally and demonstrate strong written communication skills (clear, concise, proper grammar and tone, etc.).
You will likely include appendices (charts, diagrams, etc.) plus a cover/title page, abstract, indices, and references. APA format must be used for this submission.
How long should your paper be? Long enough to effectively do all of the above. This truly varies from subject-to-subject, and student-to-student, but you can generally expect the body of your final paper to be between 3000-5000 words (so, excluding the abstract, indices, references, etc.)
Professors feedback on last submission
Dear Reem:
Here are some thoughts about issues to address in your revision for the final submission.
Your literature review is barely two pages. That’s partly a result of havings a small number of sources mentioned. The summaries of the articles are general and vagues. Focus on finding more sources to deepen your understanding of the topic and on providing more detail about the core findings in these studies. The expectation is that there will be at least 15 sources cited in the document and included in your references section.
While you are right that the low response rate makes it difficult to draw firm conclusions, I think that your discussion makes some reasonable inferences about the meaning of the results, especially when you note the surprising outcome that many of the respondents did not rate the value of the technology highly.
See the margin comments for suggestions about additional issues to address in the methods and results section. Also, add a copy of your survey as an appendix so that it is clear what questions were asked. -
Title: Applying Strategies from Materials and Resources to Improve Writing Skills Section 1: “Effective Note-Taking Techniques” 1. Note-taking is a crucial skill for academic success and can greatly improve writing skills. Here are three strategies for effective note
After reading the sections in Materials and Resources, choose two sections and provide at least 3 bulletin points for each section. Make sure to use your best analysis and demonstrate those higher level thinking skills. You should be having a conversation with these sections and thinking about how you can apply new strategies into your writing.
*Please upload a Word Document with your bulletin points.
*Please use SafeAssign. -
“Exploring the Effects of Directed Written Disclosure on Grief and Distress in Bereaved Individuals: A Review and Synthesis of Three Studies” Introduction The loss of a loved one is a universal experience that can have a profound impact on an individual
Instructions:
This final should be an expansion of your work across this semester. Build from your initial first paragraph/thesis/source work and incorporate your research from the other two critiques (See attachments). This paper should be a minimum of 4 pages and maximum of 7. This does not include a properly formatted title page and references (an abstract is not needed at this stage in paper development). Make sure to include your own original, testable research hypothesis that derives from the work (article critique) you’ve reviewed.
Proper citation is key. Make sure you are citing in-text each idea that comes from an outside source using APA style (Author Last Name, Year) – do not include full author names, names of articles, or names of journal titles.

“Exploring Behavioral Changes in Education: A Research-Based Approach to Addressing a Problem of Practice”
The TOPIC is Behavorial Changes in Education
Imagine you and your colleagues agree there’s an education-related issue at your workplace that seems it could be addressed if you all collaborate on it together. But no one’s sure where to start. They know you’re taking classes toward your Ed.D, so they think you’re a natural pick for the first task, which is to do some research to see what information is out in the world about the problem—and any potential solutions. You’ll share the results with them via a paper that explores the problem of practice.
Think about a problem of practice you’d like to delve into for this course, a problem in your current educational environment or one you see yourself in the future, one that relates to your specialization.
Your purpose is to use research to find recommendations that will help you and your colleagues address the problem of practice. You’ll identify the most current and relevant articles and analyze them to surface the issues, practices, and solutions most appropriate to your setting.
In your paper:
Describe your problem of practice, providing examples.
Analyze the relevant issues, practices, and solutions and their relationship to your educational setting, based on current research.
Evaluate the solutions to prioritize the most relevant and effective for your setting.
Critical thinking: Be sure to analyze and evaluate the articles, not just report what was written. Provide the reasons why these are relevant to your problem of practice. And consider what analysis you need to provide in addition.
Before you begin your paper, examine the scoring guide to see the grading criteria.
Paper Organization
Start with a title page and organize your paper with the following guidelines:
Title page: Use APA format to create the title page. Use your Problem of Practice as a title.
Overview: Provide an introduction of your problem of practice and an overview of what will be included in your paper. Include discussion of how this problem relates to your specialization.
Problem of practice: The body of your paper will be a presentation of research and its relation to the problem of practice you’ve chosen.
Recommendations: Your conclusion should make recommendations for addressing the issue based on the research you’ve found.
References: Include a minimum of three different scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles (related to your field of specialization) that are also cited in the paper. Your citations must have references, and your references need to be included within your paper as in-text citations.
Your 2–3 page paper should be double-spaced and include a minimum of three references from peer-reviewed journal articles related to your field or specialization. -
