For this assignment, you will think of a research question you have that is related to drugs and how they impact human behavior. 
Think of questions that you may have thought of while reading material or watching videos in this course. You can choose a topic that focuses on something you may still want to learn more about.
Here are some examples of topics:
How legalization of cannabis impacts use patterns in society.
The relationship between substance use and mental illness.
The role of peer pressure and socialization in substance use.
Psychological factors that lead to relapse after treatment.
How substance use impacts cognitive functioning (focus on a specific substance).
The relationship between substance use and homelessness.
The beneficial uses and harmful effects of … (specific substance).
How specific substances can be beneficial to treating mental illness.
Research Paper (50 points)
Each student will choose a topic to research related to Drugs and Behavior and submit a research paper.
Assignment is to be 5-6 pages typed (not including cover page, images, or reference page), double spaced and one inch margins.
Written in Times New Roman 12 pt font.
Paper must be in APA format – cite your sources in your writing (in-text citations) as well as on the Reference page (refer to APA resources below).
Use at least 3 credible sources google scholor
All papers MUST be written in your own words (not copied and pasted from sources).

APA Format Resources  Your research paper must include BOTH.
In-Text Citations: You MUST cite your sources as you include information from them in your writing. This is included at the end of the sentence (in abbreviated form) that includes information from the source used. 
Reference Page Citations: You MUST provide a Reference Page as the last page of your research paper where you include the full citations of all your sources used for your paper. 

Choose a particular topic area from the class or textbook (e.g., motor development) and review how research on it relates to the 6 major themes of development that have been described throughout the course (detailed in the 2nd class lecture, in particular):
1. Nature vs Nurture  
2. The Active Child  
3. Continuity vs. Discontinuity
4. Mechanism of developmental change
5. Sociocultural context
6. Individual differences
Describe how research in your chosen area exemplifies each theme.  For example, if you chose the development of personality/temperament, you would describe how the research relates to the Nature/Nurture theme by describing studies showing that some traits like aggression can be inherited from your parents (and so on for each of the 6 themes). 
This is not intended to be a research paper. In theory, you could write this paper only having read the textbook and attending class, however, you can include any outside material that interests you and adds to your argument. 
*Please be sure to cite any sources you use and be extra careful to use only your own words. Include a bibliography for anything you cite. Any incidents of plagiarism will result in a zero on the assignment and a charge filed with the academic honesty board that could result in an ‘F’ in the class. 
*This paper should be between 8-10 double spaced pages (not including an optional reference page).
*Please include separate section headings for each of the 6 themes.
