Self-Evaluation of Counseling Skills and Christian Integration: Identifying Strengths and Growth Areas
General instructions: The student will post one thread of at least 300 words. APA format Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years unless it is deemed a seminal work in the field. Acceptable sources include textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, government websites, biblical sources (Bible, Bible dictionary, commentary, theological textbooks, etc). The purpose of this discussion is a self-evaluation in the areas of interview skills, assessment, diagnosis, case conceptualization, treatment planning, and Christian integration. DETAILS INSTRUCTIONS
Do the following for your initial thread:
Review the readings, videos, and assignment feedback you have received across the course in these 6 areas (interview skills, assessment, diagnosis, case conceptualization (the inverted pyramid model and/or the B-well model), treatment planning, and Christian integration). As you review the readings, videos, and assignments are there any ethical concerns (e.g., competency conducting a written treatment plan . . . the training and skills to use CBT-TF, CPT, PE with PTSD or writing up clinical notes, documentation, using prayer) as needed? Please review the ACALinks to an external site. and AACCLinks to an external site. codes of ethics to apply specific sections. You can use the ethical findings below when responding to the 3 strengths and the 3 growth areas. Take notes as your review them. Note the sources for each data point that you may use for your initial post.
Then identify 3 areas you perceive as strengths and offer evidence. For example – I was able to offer effective paraphrasing during the CIR video based on the feedback from my professor and a peer. My professor offered, ″Effective in paraphrasing Jack′s narrative around his wife′s death.″ My Peer stated, ″way to go in paraphrasing when Jack offered info about his stress at work.″ Another example could be, I noted my success in the diagnosis of George with adjustment disorder as noted by my professor. This meets the ACA code E5.a. (ACA, 2014).
Then offer 3 growth areas and evidence. For example – My professor noted a growth area in using my theory, person-centered, in steps 3 and 4 of the IPM. I struggled to apply the correct terms such as positive regard in step 3 and self-actualization in step 4. This potential growth area connects with the ACA Code of Ethics (2014) C2.a and C2.b, to practice competently and get the necessary education, training, and supervision. Offer 3 potential “goals” that are specific and measurable along with 2 to 3 interventions for each goal. Goals are broad outcomes you want to achieve and the action items or ″interventions″ are the steps leading to the accomplishment of that particular goal. A goal can be ″To increase my competency in choice therapy.″ The action items could be (1) to read ″choice theory: A new psychology of personal freedom″ by Glasser by May 21st, (2) Complete the GIFCT-US Online Basic Training by June 1st, and (3) connect and consult with a choice therapist to gain mentoring by July 1st.
** Important to apply in the thread Personal experience: My strengths: I diagnose the cases correctly, empathy with the client, rapport, weakness: I need to learn more in-depth when developing the papers, Second language is English, not my first language. -
