For the EMA, you are asked to complete two parts, as follows: (PLEASE VIEW EVERYTHING I HAVE ATTACHED: from the assignment guidelines to other documents refered to in the guidlines, also please see BOOK 1 and BOOK 2, to see what themes are most relevant)
For part 2, I want to integrate Palestine and the news that has been surrounding it. I am of the opinion that we are witness a genocide and doing nothing. Please connect this to psychological theme mentioned in the documents and books attaached.
Part 1 is an essay
Part 2 is an additional section referring to themes and contemporary issues and news stories.
Part 1: Essay
‘The personal is political’ – comment on this classic statement from the perspective of social psychology.
Write an essay that discusses this classic political statement/argument from the perspective of social psychology. The essay should refer to at least two blocks of the module material and two additional academic sources from outside the module material. Instructions:
For your research proposal select one Independent
Variable from the column labeled independent variables (Blue in color) and 2 Dependent Variables from the column
labeled dependent variable (black in color) to use in your research proposal.
You will then need to develop 3 hypotheses (the null hypotheses are not a
hypothesis for this purpose). At least one hypothesis needs to be experimental
(includes an independent variable) and one needs to be correlational (2
dependent variables) the third hypothesis can be either type.
You will be required to write a research proposal (literature
review, methodology, and anticipated results, and reference section) using the
variables you selected for this project in this class. Your introduction will
start with your research question (why you are interested in this research) and
then citing the results of past research leading your reader to your three
hypotheses (a logical progression from the past research to your hypotheses). You
will also need to include definitions of your variables.
You will be responsible for searching the literature
data bases for past research that addresses the variables (hypotheses) you
select and their relationship to the other variables you selected (for example:
age differences in self-esteem [experimental] or the relationship between
procrastination and self-efficacy [correlational]). Later in the semester you
will be required to take a battery of questionnaire (in a single survey) to
provide data for the complete APA Paper required in the PSYC 4017. In the PSYC
4017 class you will be given data based on the variables you selected to
compute results so you can add a complete results and discussion to your final
paper and presentation in that class.
The citations for the actual surveys you selected for
your hypotheses will be provided to you for inclusion in your Method Section
and Final Proposal.
What you must include in This assignment:
1. Research
question. This is the overall question you are hoping that your research is
trying to answer or at least provide additional information toward answering.
(5 points)
2. The
topics you selected and why you selected them (rationalization for your
choices). (5 points)
3. Your
3 hypotheses. These are statements of what you expect to find with your
research (your results: your best guess). You may modify your hypotheses later
after reading the existing literature (past research) if you change your
prediction. (10 points) -
Title: “Exploring Developmental Research: A Review of Published Studies and Analysis of Developmental Processes and Theories through Art”
Lesson 1 Assignment #1: Review of Developmental Research
Part of conducting developmental research is reviewing and understanding published research studies. In this research project, you will choose one of the topics that will be covered in this course and find a research article in a journal on the chosen topic. Browse your text for ideas but any topic related to children or adolescents will work. Read the article and write a report about the article. Be sure to include a citation for your article (authors, title, journal, volume, pages and year). I prefer APA format but if you are familiar with a different format that will be ok too. In addition to including the main points of the study, give your personal reactions to the research findings. Again, you will need an actual research article describing a study not a review article. Most research articles are organized in the following sections: introduction, methods, results, discussion. Please complete this assignment with complete sentences in paragraph form. You may provide a brief overview of the article and then address the questions OR you may provide your overview within your answers to the questions below. Be specific in your responses.
Answer the following questions:
1. Can you use the title of the study to identify the independent and dependent variables? Identify the IV and DV. (Many titles are in this format: “The effects of IV on the DV.”)
2. What did you learn from the introduction section? What is the historical background of the research topic? What theoretical explanations are emphasized in this section? What is the hypothesis of the present study? 3. What did you learn from the methods section? Who were the subjects and how many subjects were in the study? What procedures (e.g., apparatus, directions, assessment tools) were used?
4. What did you learn from the results section? What kinds of statistical procedures were used? What did you learn from charts, frequency tables, and bar graphs?
5. What did you learn from the discussion section? How did the authors interpret their results? Did they provide alternative explanations? Did they talk about the limitations of the present research study? What future research studies were suggested?
6. What kinds of ideas did this article make you think about?

Lesson 1 Assignment #3:Art, Development and Developmental Theories
In this assignment you are to select a painting/illustration that shows a child and/or children. Based on your selected artwork, identify and describe the three developmental processes and provide an example of each with reference to the painting. Identify and describe the period of development the individual appears to be in. Next, address the three main developmental issues (discussed in text) with reference to the individual/s in your painting. Use examples where appropriate. Lastly, how could your painting represent two of the developmental theories. That is, how could the representation be viewed from two of the developmental theories outlined in chapter 1(you can select any two)? Be sure to include a copy or weblink for your painting and identify the artist, year, and title of the painting. Provide references, even textbook.

“Understanding and Addressing Self-Injury: A Conversation with Your Daughter”
Self-injury, such as cutting, used to be seen rarely, and only among girls (and a few boys) who had been sexually abused. Now, however, girls will cut for some of the same reasons that others engage in eating disorders. Many say that the physical pain helps them suppress emotional pain. [For anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing, the only audio is music.]
Imagine this: one day your daughter comes home from school and tells you about a girl who was cutting in the bathroom. What do you tell her? What else do you do? -
The Role of Reward Processing in Clinical Disorders: A Neuroscientific Perspective Clinical disorders are a complex and diverse group of mental health conditions that can significantly impact an individual’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. These disorders are often associated with impairments in
Using the instructions below, write a short essay (length: 500 – 1000 words) describing how a clinical
disorder relates to reward processing in the brain. Although you are expected to answer the questions
below in your essay, please write the piece as an essay, not just as a series of answers to the questions.
Pick a condition from this list:
1. anorexia nervosa
2. borderline personality disorder
3. bipolar disorder
4. post-traumatic stress disorder
Part 1 (2 points): Describe the condition.
a. What are its primary characteristics?
b. What is its incidence? Does it tend to affect some populations more than others?
c. How is it diagnosed?
Part 2 (4 points): How does this disorder relate to reward processing and motivated behavior?
Behavioral:
a. Do individuals with this condition show changes in how they respond to rewards?
b. Do they show changes in sensitivity to positive and negative reinforcement?
c. Do they show changes in (hedonic) pleasure?
Neural:
d. What is known about the brain basis of the disorder, particularly as it relates to reward systems?
e. Are there documented changes in the brain’s reward systems in individuals suffering from this
condition?
If the answer to any of the above questions is generally unknown or unclear to scientists, state that
(along with any information about what is thought or hypothesized to be the answer).
Part 3 (2 points): How could an understanding of the brain systems for reward and motivated behavior
help in the development of new treatments for the disorder? For this section, I would like you to think
about the question and come up with some thoughts on your own, rather than relying just on existing
sources of information.
Sources (1 point):
Sources: Please use at least 3 sources, 2 of which must be something other than the textbook or
Wikipedia. Please list all your sources at the end in a section titled “References” or “Sources.” You
should list full citation information, including author and year, and insert the appropriate citations into
the text. A link alone is not sufficient.
Aspects of style and grammar (1 point):
Minimal spelling and grammar issues.
Written as an essay (not just answers to the questions) with a coherent structure and flow. Please edit
your essay to avoid excessive repetition of the same information.
