Instructions: 
Students are required to submit a research
paper on their choice of topic as long as it falls within the realm of Cognitive Psychology. Students may
also choose to simply expand on the same topic that they chose for the presentation. Once you have
chosen your topic, you are asked to choose and designate which paper option you would prefer: 
Option A
Choose a debate/research question within cognitive psychology and explore both sides of the
argument. As you discuss both sides of the debate, make sure to present the pros and cons of the
arguments before heading into the final section of your paper. In the final section, you will introduce your
opinion of the argument including which side you agree with while backing up your claims.

Chapter 1 of Child Development indicates that significant contemporary concerns in child psychology are changes in the family, child healthcare, educational reform, and sociocultural issues such as gender roles and ethnic minorities. Monitor a newspaper, radio news program, or television news program, or internet news program for a few days to a week and keep a record of stories that reflect each of these concerns. That is, search the paper for news items or listen to news broadcasts, and make a record of stories that reflect these concerns. When you are done, tally the number of stories that reflect each concern. Post your findings and answers to the following questions on the Discussion Board. In addition, I would like you to respond to the posting of at least one other student in a way that extends that student’s response. Provide references.

The local school board is meeting in a few days to vote on the inclusion of a comprehensive sexuality education curriculum for all grades. The curriculum will be called, ALL ABOUT ME (for elementary students), CHANGING BODIES (for middle school students) AND TAKING CARE OF OUR BODIES AND MINDS (for high school students). The opinion is based on the ACOG opinion paper and the research that supported it (see below) . Some community members are opposed to having this curriculum in the schools, while others are in support of a comprehensive sexuality education curriculum. You are the school board president, and your area has seen a rise in pre-teen and teen pregnancy. Your school system has also been sued for permitting sexual harassment of female, homosexual, and nonbinary students at all grade levels. Pressures have been building from many sides, and after a Title IX review, the team conducting the review recommended instituting a comprehensive sex education program that started in preschool as recommended by ACOG. After much consideration, the school superintendent and the school board have agreed that this is the best solution. Regardless of your personal views, write an argument that responds to parental opposition to this decision. Be sure to support your argument with information from our readings or other appropriate research-based information. IMPORTANT: Your opinion from a parent perspective may be different than what the discussion is asking.
