Attitudes and Beliefs Reflection Paper Assignment Instructions
OVERVIEW
The Standard A.4.b. of the American Counseling Association’s (ACA) 2014 Code of Ethics mandates the following  regarding personal values:
“Counselors are aware of their own values, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors and avoid imposing values that are inconsistent with counseling goals. Counselors respect the diversity of clients, trainees, and research participants” (ACA, 2014, p. 5).
Therefore, it is important that counselors and counselor trainees spend time identifying their own values, understanding the origin of these values, and honestly owning how personal values may adversely affect the counselor’s ability to work with certain populations or mental illnesses.
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Read and complete the Attitudes & Beliefs Inventory below (see p. 2). When you are finished, go back over the  inventory and select three questions you had the strongest reactions to and/or you had the most difficult time answering. 
Your paper should be 5-7 pages, (excluding title page, abstract, reference page), written in APA format, including a title page, abstract, introduction, body, conclusion, and references. Your paper should be well thought out and demonstrate critical thinking, self-evaluation, and practical application. Your paper must include at least 5 scholarly references published within the last 5 years. All sources must be scholarly journal articles outside of course materials, materials from other classes, and applicable to the counseling profession. No websites or direct quotes. This assignment should be written in 1st person.
Step 2: Divide your paper into the three required headings below and address the following questions within each section:

State the 3 questions that evoked the strongest reaction in you, and/or, you found most difficult to answer. Why? What personal value(s) and/or belief(s) did each question seem to  contradict or seemed to cause some personal incongruence within you?

In our last  meeting, we explored Liberation Psychology, its origins, assumptions, and objectives. Reflect on Martin-Baro’s  liberation psychology, and explain which ideas resonated with you the most as a member of a marginalized community.  Then draw specifically from Heitz (2022), the PowerPoint Presentation, or the Ted talk by Thema Bryant (2023) to explain what insights you gained about liberation as both social change and personal empowerment.  Lastly, discuss how you can apply this knowledge in your own life. Analyzing Research
Step 1: Visit the Public Library of Science (PLOS One) website: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/browse/psychology (a peer-reviewed journal that freely publishes research articles with open licenses). Do a search for an article that interests you, then answer the following:
What is the hyperlink to the study you chose?
What is the title of the study, and who conducted the research?
Describe the study in a few sentences in your own words.
Identify and describe either the basic assumption of the researchers, or if it was an experiment, the hypothesis. Why were they conducting this research?

Middle adulthood brings with it the very real possibility of major life transitions. Unfortunately, not all these life transitions will be positive. The middle-aged adult, if a parent, will be faced with the departure of the grown children and the possibility of becoming a grandparent. In addition, individuals in middle adulthood may face the realization that their parent(s) may need to be cared for, and the possibility of retirement. Each of these transitions could have a profound effect on the individual. The fact that many of these may begin occurring at relatively the same time can only compound their effects.
On the other hand, individuals in middle adulthood probably have better resources for dealing with these transitions than they would have had before. The fact that such transitions will be faced, therefore, does not guarantee the effects will be negative. In your initial post of 450 words,
Start by listing your own assumptions about how things go in midlife for most people, especially relating to peoples’ ability (or need) to redefine themselves.
Next, using any media source or people you know in midlife, find and describe at least one example of a person who has been successful in their redefinition (e.g., Julie Andrews adjusting her career after a botched throat surgery) and at least one example of a person who has been unsuccessful at redefinition (e.g., Robin Williams choosing to commit suicide after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease or Madonna becoming bitter at losing her earlier dominance).
List any cultural considerations that you believe have affected your subject’s transition.
Which of these examples were easier to find or more plentiful? Do these results confirm or contradict your assumptions?

Perspectives in Psychology
Step 1: In this module, you learned about the main psychological domains and also covered some of the main perspectives in psychology. Think about some of the various perspectives you learned about (including psychoanalysis, behaviorism, cognitive psychology, humanism, and the biological approach), and explain how an alien psychologist from another planet might explain the following human behaviors:
Why do people cut or shave hair from their bodies (and why does it vary by sex, age, groups, etc.)?
