“The Harmful Impact of Micro-Aggressions: Why We Cannot Ignore Them”
Review the materials regarding micro-aggressions in the lecture, handout, article, and
video. Incorporate the content by explaining what you learned and then address the
following questions as it relates to a specific micro-aggression.
When people discuss micro-aggressions, a common response is that they are ‘innocent acts’ and that the person who experiences them should ‘let go of the incident’ and ‘not
make a big deal out of it’. Do you agree or disagree? Why?
Dr. Derald Wing Sue has argued that the impact of subtle prejudice
(i.e., micro-aggressions) is more harmful than the impact of blatant discrimination. Do
agree or disagree? Why?

Title: Human Behavior and Error in Everyday Activities: Exploring Anthropometry, Navigation, and Accidents
Activity 1 – Anthropometry
Describe how you would operationalise the following constructs:
reach
personal space
walking
(e.g., step length and consistency, distance/time, gait pattern?)
For each construct, collect some data and see if you can calculate a mean and standard deviation from some of your proposed measures.
Activity 2 – Navigation
Landmarks and Maps
Use a card sorting task, to list different ways of navigating between different locations
Categorise different methods into those based on landmarks, versus topography versus an overall reference system (GPS, compass, stars)
Describe the advantages and disadvantages of landmark-based navigation in egocentric space versus map-based navigation in allocentric space.
Indigenous Navigation
Watch the following video and describe the encoding of navigation into narrative memory
Activity 3 – Accidents and errors
Errors
Identify several errors that could occur in the following situations:
Driving
Missing a deadline.
Going to the wrong room for your lecture.
Sending an e-mail/message to the wrong person(s).
Explain for each case how these errors might be:
A slip or a mistake.
An error of omission or commission (and which types).
A skill-, rule-, or knowledge-based error.
Near misses and accidents
Define the notion of near miss versus accident.
Discuss human factors methods of reducing human error as described in the text.
What extra insights on human error do you get from Sydney Dekker’s Safety Differently videoLinks to an external site. (trailer listed under extra resources)

Exploring the Fascinating World of Physical and Neurological Development: A Personal Reflection on Chapter 6 Dear [Friend], I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to you about the latest chapter we covered in our developmental psychology class
STEP 1: There is SO much interesting about physical and neurological development between the infant and teen years….I have provided some addition readings and videos specific to physical, motor, and brain development, but as you can see there are many, many other topics covered in this chapter. This assignment is designed to allow folks to do deeper dives into the content areas they find most interesting. To complete this assignment, pretend you are writing an email to a close friend about the topic or idea you’re learning and have found most interesting in the Chapter 6 content. Still addressing the idea of metacognitive concepts, students will have their free choice of topic in this Flip discussion board assignment. For this DB, I want folks to have fun while being able to talk about things they found most interesting. STEP 2: Based on this prompt and USING YOUR OWN WORDS, write an email to your friend (between 350-400 words), and then post the email to your friend in this discussion board, explaining to him/her what drew you to the topics you identified from Chapter 6, and explain what you found most interesting about the topic, and describe how it relates to your own life, their life, or a friend/family member’s life or experiences. There is a ton of information and good detail in this week’s module about the physical and neurological development of infants through to the teen years. Your response must be ONLY in your OWN words, and include at least 10 UNDERLINED terms appropriate terms and concepts from this module on the biological, cognitive, neurological development, or development of the age and stage between 0 and 18, as well as anything else you’ve previously learned from earlier modules that you might want to include. Each term, concept, theory or idea you are highlighting from the content must be underlined in the written submission.(Terms and concepts MUST be underlined to receive credit for this DB post. Please also include the word count with your discussion board submission). STEP 3: Upload your letter here into this discussion board (50 points). STEP 4: Respond to at least one classmate’s primary DB post with substantive comments. Simply posting “I agree” or “Good job” will NOT suffice for your. Here, you must include AND UNDERLINE at least 3 terms or concepts related to the classmate’s post. Remember that you are trying to advance ideas and the conversation with your replies. (10 points – Minimum word count 90-100 words

“Social Media’s Impact on Psychological Well-Being: A Controversial Debate”
In “Social Media’s Growing Impact on Our Lives,” Summer Allen (2019) writes, “The question as to how social media affects psychological well-being—both for teens and adults—is a common one. While some studies have found associations between social media use and loneliness, depression, and poor life satisfaction, these associations don’t necessarily mean that social media is to blame.”
Take a position. Does social media positively or negatively impact psychological well-being?
First, title your post either “Social Media Positively Impacts Psychological Well-Being” or “Social Media Negatively Impacts Psychological Well-Being.”
For your initial post, address the following:
Make your case by persuasively arguing your position. Include at least one scholarly article to support your position.
Link social media’s effect on psychological well-being to at least one programmatic course theme:
Self-care
Social justice
Emotional intelligence
Career connections
Ethics

Vision: More than Meets the Eye Option A: Title: Our Perception Shapes Our Reality Option B: Title: The Power of Visual Illusions in Shaping Our Perception
Vision: More than Meets the Eye (Worth 30 points) The purpose of this discussion is to ponder alternative perspectives and the ways in which our perception impacts our thinking process. Learning Objectives 3a and 5a Please select and complete either Option A or Option B. Option A Step 1: Watch the following Ted Talk at the following link: What Reality are You Creating for Yourself? Step 2: During the Ted Talk, Lidsky stated, “I learned that what we see is not universal truth. It is not objective reality. What we see is a unique, personal, virtual reality that is masterfully constructed by our brain.” Compose a paragraph to respond to the extent to which you agree or disagree with Lidsky’s statement, including your rationale. Step 3: In his Ted Talk, Lidsky shared the following advice, “Hold yourself accountable for every moment, every thought, every detail. See beyond your fears. Recognize your assumptions. Title: Risk Assessment and Analysis of Case 1: Craig’s Demographics, Risk Factors, and Likelihood of Crime or Victimization Introduction: In this assignment, we will analyze Case 1 involving Craig, a 25-year-old male
Based on the data you gathered in the Risk Assessment Template, address the following in your Assignment:
I HAVE CHOSEN CASE 1 WITH CRAIG
Summarize the case you selected.-
Identify and analyze the demographics and risk factors (e.g., acute, direct, proxy, short and long term) present in the case that contribute to the subject becoming a victim or offender.
For offenders, identify and analyze the risk factors that may influence a person, once they have committed their first crime, to continue engaging in criminal behavior.

The Complex Dynamics of Adulterous Relationships: Motives, Marital Dynamics, and Gender Differences in Divorce
Please answer one of the two questions below.
I want very focused essays directly addressing all the sub-questions and including only relevant material.
Answers should be approximately three pages and not to exceed four double spaced pages.
Do not use outside material but rather use the course readings and your insights into the material.
1) It has been argued that in an adulterous relationship, the lover of the unfaithful party is frequently not a suitable or
likely long-term partner, and the affair is really a function of the current state of the marriage. In what type of affair
might this be case? Hint: (The conflict-avoidant affair). In your essay emphasize what typically are the motives of the
cheater and marital dynamics associated with this type of affairs. What type of affair might have less relevance to the marriage and are more about the desire for self-expansion (Hint: the Spilt Self affair). What is the psychological history
of the cheater in the Spilt Self affair, the motives for cheating, and the state of their marriage? (There are 3 things to
discuss here: motives, state of the marriage and the psychological history). What about the intimate avoidant and
sexual addiction affairs? What are the motives, marital dynamics, and the desire for self-expansion? What are the
typical motives of these cheaters and the state of their marriage?
2) What are the gender differences for men and women when experiencing divorce? Please discuss issues surrounding physical and mental health, finances, and the role of children. Please be careful to evaluate these experiences from the perspective of both members of the couple. Since gay marriage is relatively recent there are few articles on “divorcing”
but I’ll be impressed with any thoughtful comments on this topic. Also, how might experiences of physical and mental
health, finances and children affect the next committed relationship or remarriage?
