  • Title: “Empowering Communities through Prevention: A Reflective Critique of a Cancer, Chronic Illness, or Disease Prevention Plan” Culture-Based Prevention Plan for Reducing Cancer Incidence: A Reflection and Critique

The purpose of this assignment is to empower undergraduate students in the field of health psychology with the knowledge and skills to critically evaluate and reflect upon real-world prevention plans designed to mitigate the incidence of cancer, chronic illness, and disease. By selecting and analyzing specific prevention plans that target lifestyle changes and risk factors within distinct communities, cultures, or subcultures, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the complex interplay between health psychology principles and culturally diverse populations.
After reviewing the Class and Topic Resources, write a 1,000-1,500-word reflective critique paper on a plan to prevent or reduce the incidence of cancer, chronic illness, and/or disease. The plan will focus on lifestyle changes and risk factors, in addition to elements that promote wellness, while decreasing illness and current high rates [prevalence] of cancers, chronic illnesses, and disease. It is important to use current scholarly research when analyzing a plan. The elements selected should be supported by this research.

Your task is to choose one of the prescribed prevention plans and write a reflective critique supported by scholarly research. It is important to use current scholarly research when formulating a plan.

  • “Fostering Diversity and Reducing Bias: The Role of Forensic Psychology in the Tristyn Bailey and Aiden Fucci Case”

I selected the Aiden Fucci (14 years old) and Tristyn Bailey (13 years old) case due to it happening in my hometown and how many people I knew who were personally devastated by the killing of Tristyn Bailey. On Mother’s Day, May 9th, 2021, Tristyn Bailey’s body was discovered with 114 stab wounds at a retention pond near her home. Throughout the search for Tristyn Bailey, Fucci was in the back of a cop car while he posted a selfie on Snapchat with the caption, “Hey guys has anybody seen Tristyn lately”. This was a huge topic of conversation in which people were saying what happened to Tristyn was her fault because she left her house so late and what she was wearing (a cheerleading outfit) when she was killed. A lot of people wanted to say that Aiden Fucci was not competent enough since he was so young at the time and struggled with mental health. People discriminated against a 13-year-old girl due to what she was wearing and used it as one of the reasons why she got killed changing so many people’s impressions of her is disgusting because it left such a gray area, although she snuck out of her house at 1 am isn’t a reason for her to be stabbed 114 times. However, Aiden Fucci was competent and was sentenced to life in prison being charged as an adult. Aiden Fucci did not get away with the death of Tristyn Bailey despite the discrimination being said throughout the case, in future cases all of these things can be used as validation of why it may be okay due to gender and what they were wearing insinuating that they “were asking for this” to happen to them.
As forensic psychology professionals, we are looked at as experts to help promote diversity, reduce bias, and help catalyze positive social change by adhering closely to the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines. According to the APA guidelines under general principles, it states, “Psychologists recognize that fairness and justice entitle all persons to access to and benefit from the contributions of psychology and to equal quality in the processes, procedures, and services being conducted by psychologists (American Psychological Association, 2020). These guidelines emphasize the importance of competence, advocating for the fair treatment of all individuals. I feel like nowadays it’s easy for people to claim they struggle with mental health and use that to justify why they did what they did and I’m tired of that but providing mental health services can be beneficial for our community and those in need. By advocating for diversity, reducing bias, and fostering positive social change, I strive to create a more just and inclusive society where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.

  • Title: The Cultural Diversity of American Social Norms: Exploring Cuisine and Television Depictions

Social norms are unique to different cultures. The extents to which individuals endorse and apply their social understanding in their daily lives vary in different cultures. Individuals’ adherence to these social beliefs guides their living. One of the unique characteristics of American culture is adaption of a multitude of cuisines. Whenever you go to a mall, you find food outlets serving cuisines from around the world ranging from pizzas and pastas to sweet and sour chicken and burgers and fries. Even regional foods from various parts of the country, such as Cajun chicken and sourdough bread, are available.
Explain why various regions of the United States have different social norms. Often, television situation comedies depict family life in a generalized, even stereotypical way. Compare and contrast the social norms depicted in television programs with the same social norms where you live.
Explain the reason why or why not the U.S. eclectic dining habits demonstrate the diverse nature of U.S. culture.
Justify your answers with appropriate reasoning and research from your text and course readings.

  • Overview: Applying the APA Code of Ethics to a Case Study Vignette

    Overview
In order to understand how your case study presents an ethical conflict, you will need to understand the dominant ethical code. Professionals in the field of psychology refer to the APA Code of Ethics to guide their decision making in their work environments. The American Psychological Association website provides the APA Code of Ethics, which is used in psychology.
    Prompt
In Milestone Three, you will apply the APA Code of Ethics to your chosen case study vignette. You will list and define each principle and standard in an organized fashion as well as emphasize which principle and standard could be in question in your case study vignette. You will then make a statement discussing the cultural and social considerations in your case. All cases have considerations of this kind, but they may be less obvious in some case studies. You may also choose to create a hypothetical cultural or social consideration (for example, what if a language barrier were present in your case study vignette?) for your case if you do not think it has one. You will expand upon this in Milestone Four.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed within the final project outline template:
Describe the ethical issues in your chosen ethical scenario and relate the issues to the important people identified previously. You might consider the following: What are the questions you wish to answer and the ethical issue that must be addressed?
APA Code of Ethics: List and define all principlesin an organized fashion. Identify which principles might apply to your chosen case’s ethical conflict.
APA Code of Ethics: List and define all standardsin an organized fashion. Identify which standards might apply to your chosen case’s ethical conflict.
Statement of Culture and Social Orientations in the Case Study: Identify and explain the culture and social considerations in your chosen case. If the case does not have one, create a hypothetical cultural or social consideration.
    What to Submit
Your paper must be submitted as a 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and any referenced sources cited in APA format.
