Find a good/helpful video related to an aspect of chapters 12 or 13 and include the link to the video in your post.  This video needs to be different than the ones already posted on Canvas in the learning module and (to the best of your ability) different from the other students in the class.

Death, Dying, Bereavement, & The Media  (25 points)
Numerous psychological studies have explored the link between media and behavior. In this case, students (you) are going to examine the possible relationship between popular/mainstream stories and grieving phenotypes. To do this, and to encourage your engagement with the material and understanding, all undergraduate students are required to submit a review & reflect paper. The papers will be double-spaced, 1”margins, and should have a cover page and a reference section, and should be at least 8 pages in content length. Spelling and grammar do count, and citations should be in APA  7th. Please see http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ for a helpful formatting resource.  You MUST use peer-reviewed, a.k.a. journal, references (roughly two per page, so for an 8 page paper, I expect to see at LEAST 16 scholarly references), incorporating the research and ideas explored in this class.
Paper topics: You will select one of the following:
Select one book (popular fact or fiction, such as something from a main-stream Best Sellers list, or Book Club list—New York, Oprah, etc.), which has either a thematic component of grief, or the protagonist (principal character) has been bereaved (or is dying).
OR
Select a popular movie (something non-independent and that is/was mainstream) OR 2 one-hour episodes of the same show (such as two episodes of such as Go On, or two episodes of Law & Order, etc.), which has either a thematic component of grief, or the principal character has been bereaved (or is dying).
Your purpose is to evaluate one book, or one of the movie/television programs, to examine the “media” portrayal of the grievers of that particular type of loss/grief. You will evaluate the one you select on the following:
Review:
How accurately did the book/show demonstrate the profile of that type of griever?
How did the griever respond?
How did others respond to the griever before, during, and after the event?
What, if any, was the outcome for the griever?
Did the griever receive help/demonstrate healing?
Compare and contrast it with what we have learned in class about that “type” or profile of griever( e.g. a child who lost their parent, etc.)/type of loss.
You must include grief research to support your statements.
Further details on what kind, and how much research you need to include will be addressed in class.
Reflect:
Put yourself into that character…do you think you (based on your personal experiences) would have responded differently? Why or why not?
If you were a real-life griever of that type of loss, how do you think you would feel watching/reading this?
How do you think your family/friends would respond?
Do you think that the way in which it was handled/portrayed would help, or hinder, your healing process?
If you were the director/author/screen-writer, knowing what you know about death, dying, and grief, what would you change?

Your reading describes several transitions and life events that can occur during middle adulthood. While many of those in middle adulthood thrive, that is not always the case, as evidenced by the occurrence of midlife crises. Create a presentation (using PowerPoint or your favorite slideshow tool) in which you address the following:
Identify and describe three challenges typically faced in middle adulthood (make sure to cite sources) – minimum 3 slides.
Identify and describe three recommendations for how to overcome those challenges (make sure to cite sources) – minimum 3 slides.
Offer two detailed suggestions for how to thrive in middle adulthood (make sure to cite sources) – minimum 2 slides.
You must cite your unit reading and/or outside sources to support your statements. I’m not looking for opinions here. You must support your statements and suggestions with cited sources. Include a reference slide at the end, with your references in APA format, and use in-text citations on your slides.
Keep in mind that I’m also not looking for you to copy and paste information from the reading/websites and stick it into your slides. You can use a direct quote if you feel you need to, but it must have quotation marks around it to indicate that it is a direct quote. Everything else will need to be in your own words (paraphrase), followed by an in-text citation to indicate where the information came from. I want to see your writing, not what you’ve copied and pasted from other writers. Review the Purdue OWL’s helpful guide on paraphrasing. At least 80% of your assignment needs to be in your own words.

Child Observation Part 2
You will use the same observation as before and you will apply the information you have learned.
Prepare a 4-page double-spaced paper that demonstrates your ability to be a critical observer of children’s behavior as well as your ability to apply course material about children’s development to what you have observed. Papers should be type in 12 point font with 1 inch margins.

DQ1: In order to properly explain a type I or type II error in a study, you need to accurately define the null and alternative hypothesis. Why? Hint: Make sure to think about the definitions of these errors.
DQ2: If you were to perform a well-executed research study with a sample that is large utilizing a random sampling method and did everything correctly (including accurate data), you could still end up with a type I or type II error. Why?

Lesson 6 Assignment #1: Annotated Bibliography
Visit your library, local bookstore, or internet sites that has a good collection of children’s books.
Create a list of 10 books for children that portray “emotions”. An example is Jamie Lee Curtis’s book titled “Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day”. Select any 5 books from your list of 10 to complete an annotated bibliography. Next, using your textbook, can you identify when children demonstrate expression of that emotion and understanding of that emotion?
