“The Impact of Sigmund Freud on the History of Psychology: An Analysis of His Life, Theories, Criticisms, and Legacy”
In this course you have looked at the history of the field of psychology, examining how one movement led to another and how the surrounding culture and level of knowledge affected the field. This final paper requires you to focus on one theorist, analyzing their contributions as well as situating them in the context of the history of psychology. In particular, you will:
Outline the individual’s biography and professional history.
Detail their theories and central concerns.
Describe and evaluate criticism of their ideas and work.
Place their work in its historical context and within the history of psychology.
Explain their influence on the field of psychology in the short term.
State and defend your opinion about whether their influence was beneficial and/or harmful.
Offer your position on whether their influence is still felt today, and how (or how not).
GUIDELINES
Your project should be a research paper of between 2000 and 3300 words (8 to 12 pages). Please write your paper according to APA Style. You may refer to the textbook for supporting evidence, but you must also use at least five additional credible sources outside of your textbook.
Be sure your paper has:
A title page.
An introduction (that clearly states your thesis).
Full development of your ideas supported by cited sources.
A conclusion restating your main point.
A reference list in APA Style that should exactly match your in-text citations.
All reference material should be acquired through your personal research. Acceptable sources include the following:
Biographies/autobiographies
Books or original research papers by historic researchers
Peer-reviewed journal articles
Review papers from scientific journals
Scholarly websites
Papers written by historians and philosophers of science
In general, unacceptable references include unsubstantiated viewpoints and encyclopedias, whether in print or online references such as Wikipedia (although these might be used as a starting point to find more scholarly publications). Cite a minimum of five scholarly references.
Additionally:
Your paper should be well developed and convey your understanding of the readings and concepts.
Your paper should be organized, coherent, and unified.
Your paper should be free of spelling and grammatical errors.
As much as possible, avoid using the textbook as “research,” except when absolutely necessary for background information.
Be sure to document sources in an academically acceptable manner. (See Writing Resources below) -
Reflecting on Middle Childhood and Adolescence In this module, I was particularly interested in the concept of identity development during adolescence. As someone who has recently gone through this stage, I found it fascinating to learn about the different theories and factors that
Unit 4: Middle Childhood through Adolenscence features two sections: Chapter 5: Middle Childhood and Chapter 6: Adolescence. For this activity, construct a 100-to-150 words reflective response to this module. What stood out to you the most or did not pique your interest? How can the content in this module relate to real-life situations?
Instructions:
In two complete paragraphs (75 words minimum each), choose at least three psychological concepts, theories, or topics that resonated with you in this module. You can also write about how the content relates to real-life experiences. While developing your thoughts, think about the following questions:
How has my understanding of this psychological concept evolved over time?
In what ways has this concept influenced my thoughts, behaviors, or decision-making?
Do not merely copy information from the textbook or other sources (e.g., the internet or the unit’s PowerPoint) without proper in-text citations and a reference list. Also, view the grading rubric before beginning the exercise to maximize your points.

“Reflection on the John Henryism Hypothesis: The Intersection of Social Justice and Science in Understanding Health Disparities”
please watch this YouTube video of an interview of Sherman James, the social psychologist-turned-epidemiologist who is credited with developing the John Henryism hypothesis:
The entire video is interesting, as it provides a lot of good context, but if you’re in a rush the details of the theory start at about minute 12. This is a great synthesis of exactly how discrimination-related stress, both systemic and interpersonal, gets “under the skin” and contributes to physiological challenges and ultimately health disparities. It’s also a perfect example of that intersection of social justice and science we’re always talking about – Dr. James brings it up explicitly a few times, too. Any discussion of discrimination and health is incomplete without this groundbreaking hypothesis.
I just want your reaction to it. A few possible reactions (not an exhaustive list): Did it change how you think about social stressors and health? Were you already familiar with this hypothesis, but watching Dr. James talk about it shifted your thinking? Any challenges to the theory? Pitfalls? Personal reactions? What does this well-known legend have to do with just-world theory of “victim-blaming?” Knowing what we know about allostatic load in reaction to this particular insidious form of stress, what can we do about it? There are no right or wrong answers here, I’m honestly just interested in what you think. No reason this reaction has to be any longer than 200 words.
please reflect based on some of the concepts in the powerpoints i uploaded
