The history of psychology is built upon understanding the work of particular individuals throughout history. Your textbook mentions several major and minor contributors to the understanding of psychology’s history. However, the textbook is one interpretation of the writings and thoughts of these historical figures. To have a better understanding of those thoughts, you need to read samples of the original works.
 you will research something that has been written by an individual from the time period(s) being studied (choose a name from the textbook readings-Wilhelm Maximilian Wundt,Edward Bradford Titchener,Franciscus Cornelius Donders) 
The work must be something written by the chosen person, but need only be a sample of the chosen historical work and involve only a few pages of writing. Make sure the writing deals with the topics being covered this week.
There are several sources to use to obtain the works; the best place to start is to search for the person’s name on the Internet using Google but you can only utilize this to find information about the person. Use an original historical work by an author of your choice, but keep in mind that Outside Reading Rubric you should use peer-reviewed, academic sources for the analysis of this work. 
After reading the material, answer these questions:
What were the main points of the writing?
What were the differences and similarities between what you read and what was written about the individual in the textbook?
Based on your own views of psychology, how does the author’s viewpoint fit into your current understanding of psychology?

Please explain the differences and similarities between delirium and psychosis. Look at the presenting symptoms and precipitating factors for the onset. You may need to refer back to Csection 12.1 for a refresher on psychosis.

Thomas Szasz and Civil Commitment
Thomas Szasz was very much against Civil Commitment (5150s) because he thought it was wrong to strip people of some Civil Rights before they had actually caused harm to themselves or others. He also believed that we should allow people to be themselves until they broke a law, then proceed with criminal cases (i.e., you do you until you break the law, then we take you to criminal court with misdemeanors or felonies, but no treatment). 
Given what you’ve learned in this week’s lecture, throughout this semester with each diagnosis, and what you came to the class knowing, do you agree with Szazs? Be specific in what you agree/disagree with and please explain your answer. If you agree with Szazs, then you must explain how society should approach individuals who are suicidal, homicidal and/or gravely disabled due to mental health issues in place of mandatory psycho holds.
Please never share more than you’re comfortable sharing and please do not disclose your own mental health diagnoses. This post should be a minimum of 200 words (worth 10 pts, due by 11:59pm Thursday). Your two responses to classmates should be a minimum of 100 words (worth 5 points each due by 11:59pm on Sunday).

  Chapter 15: Abnormal Psychology and the Law 
Now that you have learned about psychology and the law, including the ways in which the law serves to protect both the Mentally Ill and potential victims of potentially dangerous individuals as well as Thomas Sasz’s thoughts on the matter, we are going to read an article about a man in the midst of a mental health crisis.
Please read the article “Behind the Yellow Door, a Man’s Mental Illness Worsens Download Behind the Yellow Door, a Man’s Mental Illness Worsens” by Stephanie McCrummen, originally published in the Washington Post on June 28, 2014.
If you agreed with Sasz in your discussion response for Chapter 15, did it change your opinion or stance on the way we treat mental health in regards to the law? Whether you agreed or disagreed with Sasz, do you see any ways the mental health and legal system could be changed to implement further assistance? If this man was your loved one, how would you want him to be treated? He hasn’t broken any laws or harmed himself in any way, Sasz would say to leave him alone until he breaks a law and then incarcerate him without treatment, because who are we to say he’s “abnormal”? Others might say lock him up, take away his rights for good and keep him in the care of the state for the rest of his life. Give me your thoughts!
