Title: Conducting a Literature Review: Exploring the Current State of Research on the Effects of Social Media on Mental Health
Part of conducting any research project is to first find out all you can about the problem/topic. That includes exploring general background material; as well as the current (within the past 10 years) state of the research already done on the topic.
For this assignment, begin a Literature Review (NOT a complete Literature Review).
Consider your research problem, topic, issue and/or research question(s)
Develop a research protocol for your search
Identify between 3 to 5 current (published in the last 10 years) primary sources that seem to connect to your research problem, topic and/or issue
Be sure to add ALL of your resources to your reference list (adhering to APA 7th edition guidelines)
Write/include the following:
Introduction to your Literature Review
Research Protocol (consider a graphic image to illustrate your search)
Summarize a possible major “theme” (i.e., historical, methodological, theoretical, etc.) related to your research and the “fit” of your sources
References
Be sure to identify whether it begins with a deficit or AI (Appreciative Inquiry) premise. Include their research question(s), research design, methods for participant selection, data collection and data analysis. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each research text and the claims of the author(s). Overall, how do these articles help inform you/your research? What have you learned about your research problem? What have you learned about research? Be sure to use APA (7th edition) style guide for in-text and reference citations.
For the purposes of this beginning [mini] version of your Literature Review, you should plan to have around 5 pages (not including your reference list).
If you have difficulty finding relevant research literature, I would strongly recommend that you contact Olivia Baca, our Education Librarian at the Zimmerman Library. Let’s work smarter not harder. Librarians make that possible. They are invaluable to researchers.
Upload your review of your literature review to Canvas by 11:59pm MDT on or before Sunday June 23. If you have questions or difficulties, feel free to contact me by email, attend an optional synchronous course meeting or arrange an appointment for a virtual meeting. -
“Exploring Interdisciplinary Linked Learning: A Fieldwork Observation of a CTE Academy”
For the fieldwork requirement for this course, you will observe a lesson in an interdisciplinary linked learning program, California Technical Education (CTE) academy, STEM/STEAM academy, or a career and technical program. Using the template provided for the assignment, you will provide a thorough description of this program and an analysis of how the program is designed and students are engaged.
Directions:
Download a copy of the Week 3 Fieldwork Observation Template.
Before you observe, it is recommended that you research the program or academy that you will be observing ahead of time.
Additionally, you are welcome to ask the teacher you observe to share information related to the criteria in the template, especially if it was not observed in the lesson.
You should use the template as a guide to take notes during your observation.
In addition to providing a thorough background on the program and detailed observations about the lesson, you will write a 1-2 paragraph reflection to share your overall thoughts on the experience. Make sure to use a professional tone and be specific in your reflection and cite examples to support your ideas -

Title: The Effects of Physical Activity on Academic Performance in Elementary School Students: A Review and Analysis of Current Research
ARTICLE IS PROVIDED BELOW IN THE FILES ALONG WITH THE RUBRIC
Research article related to the content we are currently discussing, read it, and write a 2 page synopsis and interpretation of the findings.
Within synopsis your two page analysis you should:
Provide a brief overview of the authors’ findings and conclusions. What was the purpose of the study? Who were the participants? How was the study conducted? What were the results? What were the authors conclusions based on the results?
Identify the practical application(s) of the study. Your analysis should be your interpretation and thoughts about the article. Within this section of your analysis you should identify what the findings of this study mean to you in the real world. How does this research inform you as a future professional? Be specific in your comments, writing “it would be useful” or other similar statements will not be graded favorably. Did you agree with the authors conclusions? Did you find the research to be relevant (i.e. was it an important subject to investigate?)? How might you use the findings in your future physical education lessons?
After finding an article of interest to you write the full A.P.A citation in your paper (examples below). The citation does not count as part of your two page requirement. Next read the paper, focus your time on reading the abstract, introductions, findings and discussions/conclusions. Unless you are interested in the methodology (i.e. how the researchers collected the data) you may skip those sections, we are primarily interested in the application of the research. -
