  • Interpreting Research in Health Care: Article Analysis

    Assessment Description
The interpretation of research in health care is essential to decision-making. By understanding research, health care providers can identify risk factors, trends, outcomes for treatment, health care costs, and best practices. To be effective in evaluating and interpreting research, the reader must first understand how to interpret the findings. You will practice article analysis in Topics 2 and 3.
    For this assignment:
Search the GCU Library and find two different health care articles that use quantitative research. Do not use articles that appear in the topic Resources or textbook.
Complete an article analysis for each using the “Article Analysis 1” template.
Refer to “The Effect of Progressive Relaxation Exercises on Dyspnea and Anxiety Levels in Individuals With COPD: A Randomized Controlled Trial,” located in the Topic 2 Resources in conjunction with the “Article Analysis: Example 1,” for an example of an article analysis.
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

  • Evidence-Based Treatment Plan for Ms. Z: A Case Study

    Please read the instructions:
    Case Study
Ms. Z is a 28-year-old assistant store manager who arrives at your outpatient clinic             complaining of sadness after her boyfriend of 6 months ended their relationship 1 month   ago. She describes a history of failed romantic relationships, and says, “I don’t do well with breakups.” Ms. Z reports that, although she has no prior psychiatric treatment, she was        urged by her employer to seek therapy. Ms. Z has arrived late to work on several occasions because of oversleeping. She also has difficulty in getting out of bed stating, “It’s difficult to walk; it’s like my legs weigh a ton.” She feels fatigued during the day despite spending over 12 hours in bed and is concerned that she might be suffering from a serious medical           condition. She denies any significant changes in appetite or weight since these symptoms began.
Ms. Z reports that, although she has not missed workdays, she has difficulty concentrating  and has become tearful in front of clients while worrying about not finding a significant       other. She feels tremendous guilt over “not being good enough to get married,” and says    that her close friends are concerned because she has been spending her weekends in bed and not answering their calls. Although during your evaluation Ms. Z appeared tearful, she  brightened up when talking about her newborn nephew and her plans of visiting a college  friend next summer. Ms. Z denied suicidal ideation.

  • “Exploring the Benefits of Pursuing a Family Nurse Practitioner Specialty and the Importance of Professional Nursing Organizations”

Please create a response for this discussion post
“The nursing specialty I chose to pursue was Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). When deciding to further my degree, I considered FNP or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I have been in psych nursing for the last four years and I think there is a lack of providers for psych within my area. Mental health is a huge component in individuals in today’s economy and many people struggle with some sort of mental health illness. However, upon deciding, I chose FNP because I feel like it gave me a bigger opportunity to help more people. Upon graduation, I intend to gain employment at a clinic in my hometown. The clinic offers visits for illness, injury, women’s health, well child exams/vaccinations, and offers mental health services. Becoming an FNP allows me to treat more within individuals. While I enjoy psych, I also enjoy the more medical side of being a provider. The use of nurse practitioners in the United States could play a vital role in meeting the increasing demand in primary care (Mathew et al. 2022). I look forward to finishing my degree and having the opportunity to serve patients in my small community.
Professional organizations provide nurses with a network of experts to share clinical and administrative challenges and gain new ideas and knowledge (Cherry et al. 2019). Joining a nursing organization can be a great resource for nurses to use to stay educated on new nursing practices and have a place where they can voice their opinion. According to Echevarria (2018) nurses should seek membership in organizations that will best fulfill their professional and personal goals. The professional organization that I am most interested in joining is the American Nurses Association (ANA). The ANA is the oldest nursing organization which is what I find most impressive about it. Member benefits include the ability to network and connect with other nurses, advancing your career by attending webinars and conferences, staying current with nursing practices, and receiving discounts.
