General Information
Assignments in this course are intended to strengthen your skills in written communication. Effective communication skills, including scholarly writing, is an element of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN) Essentials of Master’s Education in Nursing:
“Assume a leadership role in effectively implementing patient safety and quality improvement initiatives within the context of the interprofessional team using effective communication (scholarly writing, speaking, and group interaction)” (AACN, 2011, p.12).
Additionally, the American Organization of Nurse Leader’s (AONL) Nurse Executive Competencies include having the ability to “demonstrate written and oral presentation skills” (AONL, 2015, p.5) as a component of core competencies representing the science of managing the business.
All written assignments submitted by students, including both discussion postings and written papers, should provide evidence of growth in both written communication and scholarly writing over the course of the semester.
General Guidelines
To facilitate your success, please follow these general guidelines:
Discussion Postings
Initial post: Please restate the question you are answering to guide the discussion thread.
All postings (initial and response): Should be a minimum of three paragraphs in length, (approximately 350-500 words), enough content to convey understanding of key concepts.
The first paragraph should be 2-3 sentences in length.
Middle paragraph(s) – should be 5-20 sentences and represent the substance of what you are conveying to the reader. Content should be supported by appropriate citations to assure you have gone beyond opinion.
The final paragraph should be 3-6 sentences and not contain new information but summarize what you have said.
Formatting: For all discussions, I recommend that you do all initial writing in Word or another document that can be saved. This provides you with a back-up in case there are any issues with your posting and/or Canvas glitches (rare but occur). Then copy and paste the content from that document into the discussion text box. I do understand that there are formatting issues with APA once the document is copied and pasted. Do your best to correct the formatting.
Use of Quotations: The use of quotations in discussions and written assignments is strictly limited for use in citing definitions ( See Section 8.25 of APA Manual: Principles of Direct Quotation – p. 270)
Scoring Rubric: A detailed grading rubric is provided to guide your responses.
Written Papers
All written papers are to follow the APA 7th (2020) for structure and content (please note, not all elements are components of course assignments).
Please refer to paper instructions and grading rubric for further details.

It should use descriptive language to bring the reader into the experience.
Please see pages 67-70 for more details about the qualities of an effective narrative essay.
Choose one of the following topics:
What personal goal or achievement are you most proud of? Share the story of the moment you reached that goal.
What one event brought you closer to your family? Describe that day.
Was there an event in your life where you made a mistake or misjudged a situation? Describe how the event occurred and what you learned from it.

“Interdisciplinary Intervention Plan for Addressing Organizational Issue: A Comprehensive Approach”
This assessment you will describe a plan proposal that
includes an analysis of best practices of interprofessional collaboration,
change theory, leadership strategies, and organizational resources with a
financial budget that can be used to solve the problem identified through the
interview you conducted in the prior assessment.
Having reviewed the information gleaned from your
professional interview and identified the issue, you will determine and present
an objective for an interdisciplinary intervention to address the issue.
Note: the plan should be evidence-based and realistic within
the context of the issue and your interviewee’s organization.
For this assessment, use the context of the organization
where you conducted your interview to develop a viable plan for an
interdisciplinary team to address the issue you identified. Define a specific
patient or organizational outcome or objective based on the information
gathered in your interview.
The goal of this assessment is to clearly lay out the
improvement objective for your planned interdisciplinary intervention of the
issue you identified. Additionally, be sure to further build on the leadership,
change, and collaboration research you completed in the previous assessment.
Look for specific, real-world ways in which those strategies and best practices
could be applied to encourage buy-in for the plan or facilitate the
implementation of the plan for the best possible outcome. Use
attached layout for paper
·
Length
of submission: Use the provided
template. Remember that part of this assessment is to make the plan easy to
understand and use, so it is critical that you are clear and concise. Most
submissions will be 2–4 pages in length. Be sure to include a reference page at
the end of the plan.
·
Number
of references: Cite a minimum
of 3 sources of scholarly or professional evidence that support your central
ideas. Resources should be no more than 5 years old.
·
APA
formatting: Make sure that
in-text citations and reference list follow current APA style.
