  • Title: “Transitioning into the Role of an Advanced Practice Nurse: An Interview with an Experienced APN”

Interview an APN about their roles, transition, and the role development phases that they have experienced. Identify their current role in the organization that they work for. Ask for specific descriptions of situations at different points in their practice regarding barriers that they have encountered. How did they resolve it?
For example, discuss a problem when they first began practicing in an APN role for the first time, in six months, at one year, and so forth, describing the transition phase. Compare these descriptions with the role development phases described in the chapter (Novice to Expert). How did they resolve the barriers encountered, and what lessons did they learn?

  • Implementing Change in a Women’s Operating Room: A Comparison of Approaches

    Instructions:
Please respond to at least 2 of your peer’s posts.
Compare your peers’ responses about implementing change to yours; how are they different, how are they the same?
Respond to their ideas for addressing the problem situation to expand the conversation and give additional perspective on chaos or change theory for their situation.
    Ask for clarification if needed.
Present new references that support your opinions.
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.
    Discussion to respond to:
Describe a problem situation at your institution where a very small change later made a negative impact and how understanding Chaos Theory could have benefited your organization?
I could use tonight for an example. I work in a women’s operating room for a local hospital. To save some money our department decided that we only need one Rn and one scrub tech from 7pm – 11pm. As we all know babies will come when babies want to come. We had two add on cesarean sections called at the same time and one additional scheduled for 2230. There is no way one nurse and one tech can run two rooms at the same time. Fortunately, we had two CRNA’s and an anesthesiologist as well or else there is no way this would have even been possible. Had we had the correct staff, there would have been a lot less stress on the staff and the doctors. Had my institution known about chaos theory they would realize that we need at last two Rn’s and two techs at all times.
Choose Lewin’s Planned Change Theory or Kotter’s 8-Stage Planned Change Model and briefly describe how you would implement each step for planned change to better address the problem situation you described above.
For this I would choose Kotter’s 8-step plan for implementing change. Kotter’s approach is based on his observation that individuals and organizations typically resist change and miss some of the processes required for successful and sustainable transformation. I would use all 8 steps to convince my perioperative manager that we need the staff, especially at night. It will be a hard case, as all nights are not like this, but I think it will be worth the fight as it delays patients care and could be potentially fatal for mom and baby if there is a true emergency and the one Rn and one tech is already in a surgery.

  • “The Importance of Inter-professional Collaboration with Informaticists in Healthcare” Peer Response: I completely agree with your perspective on the importance of inter-professional collaboration with informaticists in healthcare. As technology continues to advance and play a larger

    peer response this post
    Inter-professional Collaboration with Informaticists
    Professional collaboration between health informaticists
and other health workers is essential in ensuring the goal of quality,
effective, and seamless healthcare service delivery. From experience, a
clear understanding of each specialist’s role in the organization is key
to achieving proper inter-professional collaboration in service
delivery. For instance, the health informaticist relies on information
from nurses, doctors, lab technicians, and other specialists. Using
information from all the professionals in the hospital, he or she can
design a system of information exchange, data collection, storage and
analysis, and data-driven decisions among the facility administrators
(van Hulzen et al., 2022). They collaborate to collect and utilize
biomedical data, information, and knowledge for the improvement of
service delivery and facilitate problem-solving in different health
    departments.
The main approach to enhance collaboration between
informaticists and other healthcare professionals involves encouraging
inter-professional teamwork within the organization. In achieving this
approach, clear responsibilities have to be created and a culture of
collaboration and consultation has to be encouraged through effective
collaborative systems, policies, and processes, especially involving
data collection, analysis, and utilization. Importantly, there has to be
a clear communication system, facilitate multidisciplinary rounds, and
    empower inter-professional respect (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2022).
With a clear understanding of the benefits of such collaborations and
why an organization needs to rely on data in offering healthcare
services or designing nursing care programs, it becomes easier to
incorporate the role of informaticists and data specialists in the care
    provision.
Nursing informatics is paramount in improving data handling
in an organization. This perspective introduces new dynamics in data
management and the role of other professionals in utilizing data and
data analytics outcomes for their service delivery. Nursing informatics
improves the way care is provided by improving the quality of patient
care and making it more effective and efficient (Karp et al., 2019).
Based on this perspective, nurses in the future shall be expected to
understand and appreciate the role of data and informatics in service
delivery. By doing this, they enhance patient care outcomes and compel
nurses to collect as accurate and reliable data as possible to
facilitate the improvement of nursing care programs.
    In summary, inter-professional collaboration, especially
with nursing informaticists is crucial in enhancing data handling and
improving evidence-based care. It should be encouraged and enhanced for
effective decisions regarding nursing care such as enhancing patient
safety, quality of healthcare, and efficiency in service delivery. In
this regard, such collaborations should be enhanced to improve the
collection, storage, analysis, and application of data and resulting
knowledge. This will significantly make the nursing profession reliant
on not only data but also supporting technology and digital platforms.

    Peer Responses:
Length: A minimum of 180 words per post, not including references
Citations: At least two high-level scholarly reference in APA per post from within the last 5 years
One application of artificial intelligence in healthcare for managing chronic illness is in diabetes care. Diabetes is a prevalent chronic condition requiring constant monitoring and management to prevent complications. AI can assist both healthcare providers and patients in various aspects of diabetes care.
For healthcare providers, AI-powered systems like the GlucoMe platform utilize machine learning algorithms to analyze continuous glucose monitoring data, insulin dosages, dietary habits, and physical activity levels to provide personalized treatment recommendations and predict blood glucose levels. By integrating with electronic health records, these AI systems can assist providers in making informed decisions about medication adjustments, lifestyle modifications, and preventive measures to optimize diabetes management (Glucome, n.d.).
Additionally, AI-enabled chatbots and virtual assistants can offer real-time support to patients with diabetes, providing education on self-management techniques, reminders for medication adherence and appointments, and instant responses to queries about diet, exercise, and glucose monitoring. These AI resources empower patients to take control of their health by providing personalized guidance and encouragement, thereby improving their self-efficacy and adherence to self-care practices (Zhou, 2020).
However, there are potential drawbacks and risks associated with the use of AI in diabetes care. One concern is the accuracy and reliability of AI algorithms, as inaccuracies or biases in data analysis could lead to incorrect treatment recommendations or decisions. Moreover, privacy and security issues may arise from the collection and storage of sensitive patient data by AI systems, necessitating robust measures to safeguard patient confidentiality and compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA.
Furthermore, the cost of implementing AI-driven diabetes management solutions, including software licensing fees, hardware infrastructure, and staff training, may pose a barrier to widespread adoption, particularly in resource-constrained healthcare settings. Therefore, careful evaluation of the cost-effectiveness and clinical utility of AI applications is essential to ensure their value in improving outcomes for patients with chronic illnesses like diabetes.
