  • “Exploring the Music, Culture, and History of the World Through MoGA: A PowerPoint Presentation”

    “Dear class,
Your final MoGA needs to be a PowerPoint submission. It must include working links, a dedicated title slide, a table of contents, introduction, body of work content slides, a conclusion, and work citations.
List ALL countries visited. You may use the work you have already submitted only reformatting it for Power Point is acceptable. Describe the music and its primary instruments from these countries. Describe the culture in terms of what religions are found there, are they animistic, what activities they do as a community. Describe the area in terms of terrain, landscape, weather, religions, and politics.
Write about where the people came from, if they were colonized, who were the oppressors. What foods do they eat? What resources were taken from them, when did they get their independence.
Lastly, what Music resonated with you on a personal level, and why.
PowerPoint slides will be at your discretion, however each item of instruction needs to be addressed, fully described and exhibited. Your PowerPoint must include working audio/visual links. All sources must be cited, including photographs, website’s, text, videos and audio examples.
Please make a check list of all the required instructions as you research and develop your outline for your project, and always double check you’ve covered everything from your checklist and my instructions before your submission.
*Please make sure your Hyperlinks work, check Google help, Adobe and reach out to IT to make sure they work and lead to the specific item when I click them. Best practice is to check with yourselves, classmates you can pair up with. You will have points deducted for non working material hyperlinks.
**Be sure you use terminolgy when decribing instruments, instrument families, terms of music eg: “call & response” = “antiphonla”. https://www.slideshare.net/sandramorgan16547/classification-of-instruments-revised-nov2013
    Good luck,”

  • “Exploring the World of Classical Music: Composers, Concerts, and Art Songs” Longing for Love: A Reflection on Despair and Yearning in Kopf and Die Forelle

There are 3 small  assignments please seperate in document
    The first assignment
    Classical Music Today
After having completed the reading assignment for this week, please tell us about the classical composers of today. Who are they? What are they composing? Are they mostly composing for film, or are composers still writing operas, concertos and symphonies? Are they writing music for television and video games, or are game and show creators using classical music from previous eras – Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, or Romantic?
What is the future of classical music? What are the modern-day applications? How will you enjoy it in the future? Will you attend concerts? Will you learn to sing and/or play an instrument? Will you hire composers to write music for your films, shows, videos, games, and projects?
Please fully respond to this prompt and submit thoughtful and thorough answers. Then, respond to at least 2 of your peers and comment on their answers, Ask and answer questions from one another. Revisit this discussion throughout the week.
    Second assignment
Please attend a live classical concert OR select one of the concerts below and watch the entire performance.  If the work is an opera or ballet, I have included a synopsis of the story, and for the operas, there are subtitles in English. You should do some additional research on your own about the works, composers, conductors, performers, ensembles, etc. so that you can write about them in your review. When writing about the works performed, please include some historical background and context. After you have written about the history and facts, if is your turn to be a music critic! What was great about the performance? What worked, what didn’t. How could the performance have been better? How does this particular performance of these works compare to other performances of the same works? (This means you will need to do a little research and watch other performances/versions to compare.) Please use the terminology we learn in this course in this assignment.

    Start Assignment
Now that you know more about the Romantic period in music, let’s enjoy and analyze some of the best examples of songs from the Era!
Please listen to each of the 3 songs below a few times each and follow the translations as you listen. Then,  provide a written analysis of the song. Please talk about how the composer brought the text alive with the music. Talk about text painting. For example if the text mentions a bird, did the composer write music that sounds like a bird? Tell me what each song is about, and how you feel the composer used his music to tell the story.

    Meine Ruh’ ist hin,
    Meine Herz ist schwer;
    Ich finde sie nimmer
    Und nimmermehr.
    Wo ich ihn nicht hab’
    Ist mir das Grab,
    Die ganze Welt
    Ist mir vergällt.
    Mein armer Kopf
    Ist mir verrückt,
    Mein armer Sinn
    Ist mir zerstückt.
    Meine Ruh’ ist hin,
    Mein Herz ist schwer;
    Ich finde sie nimmer
    Und nimmermehr.
    Nach ihm nur schau’ ich
    Zum Fenster hinaus,
    Nach ihm nur geh’ ich
    Aus dem Haus.
    Sein hoher Gang,
    Sein’ edle Gestalt,
    Seines Mundes Lächeln,
    Seiner Augen Gewalt,
    Und seiner Rede
    Zauberfluß,
    Sein Händedruck,
    Und ach sein Kuß!
    Meine Ruh’ ist hin,
    Mein Herz ist schwer,
    Ich finde sie nimmer
    Und nimmermehr.
    Mein Busen drängt
    Sich nach ihm hin.
    [Ach]1 dürft ich fassen
    Und halten ihn!
    Und küssen ihn
    So wie ich wollt’,
    An seinen Küssen
    Vergehen sollt’!
    My peace is gone,
    My heart is heavy,
    I will find it never
    and never more.
Where I do not have him,
    That is the grave,
    The whole world
    Is bitter to me.
    My poor head
    Is crazy to me,
    My poor mind
    Is torn apart.
    My peace is gone,
    My heart is heavy,
    I will find it never
    and never more.
For him only, I look Out the window
Only for him do I go
    Out of the house.
    His tall walk,
    His noble figure,
    His mouth’s smile,
    His eyes’ power,
    And his mouth’s
    Magic flow,
    His handclasp,
    and ah! his kiss!
    My peace is gone,
    My heart is heavy,
    I will find it never
    and never more.
    My bosom urges itself
    toward him.
    Ah, might I grasp
    And hold him!
    And kiss him,
    As I would wish,
    At his kisses
    I should die!3. Die Forelle
