For both original and response posts, define medical terms including title of the disease in the format of suffix, prefix and root word or combining form and write them down in those formats. For example: Subcutaneous: Suffix: -us means tissue or membrane, Prefix: Sub- means under and cutane/o skin.
In order to earn full grade, make sure to post your original post within 4-8 days of opening of the discussion by Monday June 24, 2024 so that your peer students have enough time to respond to your original post and students can have repeated and healthy back and forth conversation.
Make sure to begin your original post with the title of the disease. Remember to give full reference of your textbook chapter name, chapter number and page number/s from where you have identified and selected the disease. Read and understand the rubrics before posting the original post by clicking on your profile and scrolling down to find rubrics. Read the instructions and Rubrics. • “The Dangers of Excessive Soda Consumption and Importance of Calcium in a Vegan Diet” The Dangers of Excessive Soda Consumption and Importance of Calcium in a Vegan Diet Excessive soda consumption has become a common habit for many individuals, especially teenagers

Sarah is a freshman high school student who is also holding down a 20-hour-a-week job. She drinks diet cola several times a day to keep her energized without adding calories, and she has given up all dairy products as part of her newly embraced vegan diet. At a routine checkup, her physician warned against excessive soda consumption and recommended that she add more calcium sources to her diet. Why?
Write your discussion about the adverse effects of excessive soda consumption, and the dietary sources of calcium. Here is a brief summary of the discussion board requirements. Please review the rubric for more specific information. The initial discussion post must be at least 250 words of content, referencing the week’s reading and including a scholarly source.
Students will respond to two classmates weekly on the discussion board and give at least 50 words of substantive feedback. I encourage students to respond to me but remember responding to me does not count as responding to two classmates. All posts need a reference and in-text citations. Your initial post should never be all opinion. You need to refer to the reading and required resources.
Discussion posts are due on Saturdays at 11:59 PM EST. Late discussion posts will not be accepted even with documentation because this is an attendance/participation grade for the week.
Plagiarism of any kind can result in a “0”.
You must post your initial post before you see other students’ responses. Adding a “.” or other short words/sentence, or entering and leaving without a post submitted, to review what others provided before you give your initial post will be deleted, and the grade for the week’s board will be a 0.
All references and other pertinent material must be included with the original post. Any information that is added after the initial post is submitted will not count for the grade.

  • Medical Terminology Assignment Part 1: 1. sharp stabbing pains in my chest – chest pain 2. heart attack – myocardial infarction 3. pain – abdominal pain 4. right side just below the ribs – right upper

    Instructions:
Part 1: List each of the red medical definitions from the scenario and tell what the corresponding medical term is for each. Example: a surgical opening in the bowel that allows stool to flow into an attached bag – ostomy.
Part 2: Use the information gathered to rewrite the note in medical terms, including what the physician understood to be the problem, what was found in the physical exam and tests, the diagnosis, and the plan of care. These steps represent SOAP therefore, the SOAP labels should be included on each part.
    Case Study:
You are a medical scribe working in the emergency department. Your patient is a 31-year-old female named Brenda.  The following is Brenda’s explanation of events leading up to her trip to the emergency department.
“About 20 minutes after dinner, I was sitting in the recliner watching TV with my family, and I suddenly had sharp stabbing pains in my chest.  I told my husband I thought I was having a heart attack, so he called 911.  By the time the ambulance got there, the pain had moved from my chest to between my shoulder blades.  It was unbearable, a 12 on a scale of 1-10.”
Brenda’s physical exam showed some tensing of her abdominal muscles and pain when the physician pressed on her stomach on the right side just below the ribs.  On a hunch, he asked Brenda if she and her family had eaten a greasy meal for dinner, and a surprised Brenda admitted that they had fried chicken.  After the ECG found no abnormalities, the physician ordered a scan of Brenda’s abdomen using high-frequency sound waves to visualize her internal organs.  Just as expected, Brenda’s gallbladder was swollen and contained many small stones. No other abnormalities were found on Brenda’s exam.
A surgeon was called, and she decided to remove Brenda’s gallbladder using a minimally invasive surgical method with a laparoscope.  She also explained that since the stones were so small, she needed to be sure that none of them had pushed into the ducts that carry bile from the gallbladder and live to the small intestine, so she would need to inject some dye into those ducts and shoot an X-ray to make sure.  Brenda was instructed that after the surgery, she should avoid fatty foods, and would need to follow up with her surgeon in 2 weeks.
