The goal for this project is to look at how two different kinds of texts (not the same genre, two different genres), probably from different times and places, talk about the same subject. 
I’d start with deciding on one text I know I want to use (maybe something that you’ve already read for class), and then go looking through the other genres we’ve done to see if something else there contains a similar idea or theme in the content. Did you have a favorite or most interesting non-epic (remember, no epic allowed for this assignment)? Start with that and choose a key concept, theme, or idea that you think kind of makes or breaks, or otherwise really affects how you liked and understood that text. Then consider if there’s something else we’ve read that talked about the same thing that’s of a different genre. 
For example, say you really enjoyed Don Quixote , which means then you should think about locating something that’s not long fiction that contains either chivalry, love, travel, friendship, satire, etc….; let’s say Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales(not assigned, but there is an excerpt from this in the textbook; Marie de France might similarly work and that was assigned), and then going on to look at how the idea of knightly leadership are handled in both. Your thesis then becomes something about how either the genres of the story collection and long fiction work to present their subjects, OR how you might learn something about the subject by looking at the two different genres. 
For the two texts, use the Don Quixote and the Marie de France works that are attached.

Mini-Essay 1: Expository Essay on Beach Read 
Prompt 
According to the Purdue OWL, an expository essay “is a genre of essay that requires the student to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner.” For your first mini essay, you’ll be writing an expository essay about Emily Henry’s Beach Read.  
The idea you’ll be using is Billy Mernit’s three-act structure of the romantic comedy. 
Here are your goals when answering this quEstion:  
Read Billy Mernit’s “The Romantic Comedy Story Concept” 
Evaluate how well (or not) Emily Henry follows this story concept in Beach Read

In this essay, discuss how the themes, characters, or narrative style of the book (like Vivian’s POV) have impacted you over the last three weeks. Additionally, you might consider how your perception of the novel has changed over time. You’re going to have an introductory paragraph ending in a thesis. The thesis needs to be a statement of your opinion, it needs to be in some detail. In other words, “a subject and then an opinion” about that subject. Probably based on one of your discussion posts, some of the ideas and opinions you developed therein. So this is a 5-paragraph essay. The second third and fourth paragraph are body paragraphs.
Your conclusion should start with a re-statement of your thesis and then go on to expand the scope of your thesis probably by making statements about how the work of literature has impacted your life or how you see it applying in the real world. Each paragraph should be 200 words as a goal. As a goal, however, 300 words would be better.
You are also welcome to have 4 as opposed to 3 body paragraphs if you want, that will also make your paper longer and more substantial.
Your thesis together with your topic sentences taken together should form an outline. Roman number one, a, b, c.
