Preliminary Plan for Policy Domain: Mental Health Abstract: This preliminary plan outlines the topic of mental health as a policy domain for the current event exploration throughout the semester. The topic will be narrowed down to focus on the impact of social media
Each student will track news
media stories on one of the policy domains listed below. In addition, they will locate scholarly writing
on the policy topic area.
Although the topic may be
initially broadly defined, each student will be expected to
narrow his or her investigation for the following written assignments.
Students
should scan major international, national, or local news media for relevant
reporting. Once they have decided on the area, they should begin to collect
legitimate scholarly and academic sources from which to write their papers. This
does not include general Wikipedia, or Google.
This will set the course for
the current event exploration all semester.
How to Get Started
Select a topic
of current debate, browse recent news stories, start to take notes on how this
issue is currently defined
and debated. Compare
that with our readings in class and choose a relevant policy today.
Potential Topic Ideas include:
·
Mental
Health
·
Disability
·
Housing
·
Human Rights
·
Family Law
·
Divorce
·
Child Abuse
·
Social Welfare
Elements of
the Preliminary Plan
The preliminary plan should
use APA format, be 1 OR 2 pages long, and include at least 6 references (2 news articles and
4 scholarly articles) structured according to the following outline and please
use subheadings throughout:
·
Abstract
·
References
Abstract –Preliminary Plan. Students should
identify their tentative
topics for the historical paper and if possible, for the second paper, the
policy memo. While you are not
committed to this plan (you may change your
mind or modify it), faculty
for this course
have learned that the more
firmly developed the student’s initial plan, the better
their final projects will be. In
part, this is because this kind of
assignment often has some “false starts”
and/or it takes time to settle on a topic. Students
who leave this preliminary work until the last minute might risk getting stuck.
The abstract should
be no more than one page,
and the references will add no more than a second page. .
Reference List included
with preliminary plan. You must collect at least 2 news
accounts and 4 scholarly
sources but you may collect more if you like. You should provide the proper
citation for all sources. Be consistent with citation style and use APA guidelines. -
Title: The Impact of Immigration Policies on Latino Political Empowerment in the U.S.
Write an 8-10 page critical analysis paper for this course that focuses on a defined policy or issue area concerning Latinos in the U.S. You can choose a topic from the list below or submit your own for instructor approval. Your approach to the issue you choose should always relate to its effect on Latino political empowerment in the U.S.
You will choose two to three articles or books to analyze their approach to a topic area that affects Latinos. You may compare this to your own lived experience.
Make sure to include two to three scholarly articles and to cite them according to APA format in a bibliography at the end of the paper.
The topic should be about Administration Policies that affect the latino population, with an emphasis on immigration reform.
The body of the paragraph must support and develop the topic sentence.
Paragraphs should follow one another in a logical order and be connected with smooth transitions.
Have been /has been: Shorter active-voiced sentences are usually more effective (i.e., clear and concise) than long, complicated, distanced passive-voiced sentences.
I love paragraphs! Papers should include tightly edited paragraphs with topic sentences as the first or last lines.
TEXT: Font & Size: a 12 pt font, preferably Arial, New York, Times, Palatino, or similar.
MARGINS: In terms of spacing, use 1-inch margins on the top, bottom, and sides and double-spacing between sentences.
LINE SPACING: Use 1.5 to 2.0 line spacing, nothing more, nothing less
CITATION METHOD: All papers must include the APA citation method and a bibliography. -

Why your family lives in New York and not Chicago or Arizona? What is your country of Origin and what network they used to come here. Theory of immigration always look at the level of incorporation of immigration flows or people. They also give a lot of importance to parent human capital (income, education, occupation family structure, race, sexuality) when they come to the US. These characteristics can affect the degree of assimilation among second generation of immigrants and consequently the degree of incorporation in US society. A key feature of assimilation is language which is important for social mobility of second generation of Immigrants.
