Overview
For this assignment, which supports your final project, you should place yourself in the role of a researcher of human cultures, an anthropologist who is looking from the future back into our world today. You are asked to conduct a thorough analysis of today’s culture via a cultural work, seeking to understand how it represents culture and how it reflects its cultural environment. The work you select here will be used for your analysis in the project. Aside from selecting a work for your project, you will also look to evaluate cultural works of cultures unknown to you.
Prompt
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Select a cultural work from the world around you, one with cultural or historical interest, and briefly describe it in your submission. This cultural work should meet the following conditions:
It can take any form and be from any physical modality (visual, aural, tactile, and so on).
It should be a form of expression that you might encounter any day, which intrigues you and makes you want to know more about it.
It must be a specific work; for example, instead of choosing the American flag, you might elect to analyze the flag at the capitol building in Washington, DC.
It should be artificial in nature, with aesthetic design elements.
After choosing a cultural work to evaluate, answer the following questions:
What characteristics or elements of the work stand out to you?
What do you think the creator intended to express?
Were they successful?
Next, select a cultural work that meets the conditions above but is from a culture unfamiliar to you. Reflect on the value or meaning of studying cultural works from different cultures.
Evaluate the impact of diversity in the study of the humanities by considering the following:
How does looking through the lens of the humanities affect your understanding of diverse cultural works and the reasons for their creation?
How could learning more about cultural works from other cultures equip you with skills or new perspectives for experiences in your life (work, community, family, and so on)?
What to Submit
Your submission should be a Word document, one to two pages in length, with 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and one-inch margins. One source is required.

“Exploring the Contrast of Drama and Comedy: A Comparison of Two Films”
This week’s assignment involves watching two movies, one from list A, the other from list B. The movies in list A tend more toward the serious—i.e. dramas; list B features movies that lean toward the comedic, or at least the absurd. All films are available through the Swank streaming video database, accessible through the FSW library website. After watching one selection of your choice from each list, you will write a short synopsis of both films, and then a brief analysis of a scene from one-and only one-of the movies.
Start off with a brief synopsis of the one you aren’t analyzing. Be sure and include some details as you go, details like how the film was paced, and how the scenes and technical details contributed to the overall dramatic or comedic effect of the movie. Next, give a brief synopsis of your second film, then focus on one scene that seemed particularly effective. Get inside the structure of the scene, looking at things like how the shots are set up, how the sequence is edited (the cuts) for effect, how the lighting and direction and acting contribute. Is the scene comedic or dramatic (be mindful that a dramatic scene can appear in a comedy and vice versa)? Does the ambience or set or lighting of the scene seem to contribute to the overall effect (recall how in The Godfather interior scenes are usually dark and cavern-like, making the set feel like the underworld). Does the scene in some way join meaningfully to the broader message of the movie? Be sure and use some of the terms that have been learned in this course to give rigor to your analysis.
Post your synopses and analysis via text box, file upload or on your blog (post the link). Feel free to use any visuals that you think would help, or that might make the posting look good. Your posting should be at least 350 words. This assignment will be assessed on its formal clarity, the quality of the writing and editing, its degree of engagement with its topic, its creativity/inventiveness/originality of ideas, and the sophistication of thought it expresses.
Dramas in list A and Comedies in List B
List A (Dramas) List B (Comedies)
Moonlight
Being John Malkeovich
The Piano
Black Klansman
Arrival
Some Like It Hot
Freaks (Todd Browing)
Lost in Translation
Casablanca
Dr. Strangelove
the idea is for you to watch the films, not simply quote Roger Ebert’s critique of the film. You need to analyze the scene yourself. If I wanted to know what Roger Ebert thought of the film, I would read his comments and not make this an assignment. Please do the assignment as it was meant to be done. -

“The Forgotten Voice of Hanan Ashrawi: Recognizing Her Impact on Palestinian Rights and the Middle East Peace Process”
History and humanities classes are often jam-packed with women who’ve overcome centuries of discrimination and steered culture and politics. We generally remember (and are taught in different classes) about people like Harriet Tubman, Sacagawea, Cleopatra, and Rosa Parks . . . in other words, the legends… And rightfully so. Those women are amazing. But for every Eleanor Roosevelt or Susan B. Anthony, there’s a counterpart forgotten by the history books. There are thousands of women who were both important and influential, and who contributed in many different ways to the world as we know it.
So for this assignment choose a women that you think made a difference and should be recognized and talked about more.
I chose to talk about Hanan Ashrawi – Ashrawi is a Palestinian legislator, activist, and scholar who has been a prominent voice for Palestinian rights and peace in the Middle East.
Please be sure to include the following about her:
Why you believe this woman is important to the events of history
Why you believe this woman is often forgotten by the history books
How you believe this woman has made contributions that affect either history or current events. Also, make sure to talk about why she should be talked about in a humanities course about women in history.
If you do outside research for your answer, you must properly cite the work.
These are the steps and the things we should do that are provided by the professor.
And I chose the woman that I want to talk about already. Good luck and thank you in advance! -
Title: Time Management and Invention Strategies for Academic Success in Healthcare Studies
Assignment Descriiption:
Part 1: Requires two submissions to the Module 1 Dropbox – an Excel file and a Word file.
An important behavior of successful students pertains to establishing a weekly study schedule. This may sound overly elementary, but, to the contrary, high-performing college students know exactly every hour of their day/week and how they will use their time. A planner helps you visually organize your week, making it easier to see when you have commitments and dedicated time to study, time for leisure, and other activities. This visual representation ensures that you allocate your time wisely, balancing various aspects of your life.
Download this Excel Time Management Weekly Planner: https://classroom.aspen.edu/d2l/le/content/74399/viewContent/3792066/View and complete a weekly study schedule.
Fill in the Excel planner with time blocks for work, sleep, school, family/friends, and free time.
In a separate Word document, in 250 words, detail how you plan to utilize this schedule to tackle your workload effectively and optimize study times.
Part 2: Requires one additional submission to the Module 1 Dropbox – a Word file.
Invention Strategies help the writer brainstorm ideas There are four main types of Invention Strategies: Direct Freewriting, Listing, Outlining, and Clustering-Branching (Behrens & Rosen, 2012).
Directed Free-writing – let your mind go and write spontaneously for a set amount of time, like 15 minutes or a certain number of pages. Think about a subject and just let what you think you know flow onto the page.
Listing – make a list and several sublists of your ideas. Let your mind go and jot down words and phrases related to the topic. Listing the ideas should be a way of brainstorming just the ideas. (Once the ideas are on paper you can switch to the actual outline of your paper.)
Outlining – the more structured version of lists. This would set the ideas in hierarchical order, with main points broken into subordinate points; allowing you to see the “outline” of your topic and paper.
Clustering and Branching – start with the main topic or idea and brainstorm ideas that flow from that main idea. Clustering is writing an idea in a circle on the paper and adding new bubbles containing the subtopics/ideas flowing from the main idea. Pick the subtopics that interest you the most and make further bubbles. Branching is the same concept but instead of bubbles or circles, you have branches or lines.
Choose one of the four Invention Strategies above to explore and refine the healthcare topic that you selected for the Module 1 Discussion posting this week.
In a separate Word document, in 250 words, describe your chosen strategy and rationale behind your choice and how you plan to use the selected invention strategy in future assignments.
