Title: Understanding Weapons of Mass Destruction and Their Impact: An Analysis of Counter-Proliferation Strategies and Threats to the United States
This is an essay assignment of five questions to test knowledge and assimilation of the course objectives. You may use any of the texts, readings from this course, and outside material that is academic.
1. Use two references and, in your words, define Weapons of Mass Destruction.
2. Explain Sanctions against Foreign Persons as presented in Executive Order EO 12938. Describe how EO 12938 has or has not reduced the threat from WMD.
3. Compare and contrast the terms counter-proliferation, non-proliferation, and consequence management. Provide examples of each.
4. Compare and contrast the two articles in the week 3 readings by Al Mauroni. These include his 2010 article, A Counter-WMD Strategy for the Future, and his 2022 paper, Envisioning a New Strategy to Counter Great Power Use of Weapons of Mass Destruction. Has his perspective changed? In what way?
5. Do Weapons of Mass Destruction pose a threat to the United States? If so, where does the most significant threat stem from? Identify a specific nation or group and justify your selection using references.
Technical Requirements
Your paper must be at least 5 pages for the body of your work (the Title and Reference pages do not count towards the minimum limit). Each answer must be a minimum of one full page.
Use section headers to separate each answer. There is no need to put the question at the top of each answer.
