The website for The World includes a useful section on categories to help you group stories
together. The link is also provided in the Depot for Exams and Assignments module. Listen
carefully to the stories (usually you can read the transcript as well) and take notes. The stories
you choose must be from 2024!
You must choose stories that are linked by a topic or theme. You can focus on one country or
multiple countries. There are many interesting topics you could choose! Here are just a few
    examples:
    Environmental issues
    Sport and society
    Women’s issues
    Energy
    Migration issues
    Native/indigenous communities

things you learned in from your research. How does your topic relate to a theme of
world history we have covered (or will cover) in class?
    4. Works cited: List the titles of the stories you used and the date of broadcast. For
example: “’Former chief of staff in Israeli air force says there is no endgame in Gaza,” by
Marco Werman, The World, April 11, 2024.
    5. Remember only to use sources from the radio program The World.
    6. Submit your paper on Canvas! See the link in the Depot of Exams and Assignments

  • “The Reflection of Criminal Notions in a Historical Crime and Trial: A Case Study of US Culture in a Specific Period”

QUESTION: How did the crime/trial reflect the notion of what was criminal in that period and what does it tell you about the culture at that time in US history? You will want to give a brief overview of the trial or crime (depending on your focus), but most of your paper will be analysis and contextualization of the primary source in the secondary sources. This is a 1500-word-maximum research paper. This paper is analytical, not descriptive. Therefore, do not give a lengthy account of the crime or the trial, rather address this main question.
In thinking about the main question, bear in mind these smaller questions: How did this crime connect to larger society and other events at that time? Was this an isolated incident or connected to much larger events? What sectors of society did it involve? How was the crime either exemplar or peculiar to the changes in understandings of what was criminal and what was legal at the time?
You must have a thesis statement in your introduction paragraph (a single sentence that sums up the main argument/point of your paper and provides an answer to your main research question. Do NOT rephrase the question; rather give the answer!) Each paragraph must start with an analytic topic sentence that connects back to and supports your thesis.
FORMATTING: It MUST be an MS Word file (.doc or .docx) or a PDF file available on ALL John Jay computers. 1 Inch Margins all-around. 12 Pt Times New Roman font. Double-spaced. Regular indentations on each paragraph. Include page numbers. (maximum 1500 words, excluding footnotes, your name and title, etc, this word limit is strictly enforced).
CITATIONS: Citation format for this paper is Chicago Style.  You must cite ALL information that you take from them, not just quotations. See the Citations help sheet on Blackboard in the Week 10 section.
Use DRAFT, ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY AND TRIAL SUMMARY TO help u with the final paper, all the quotes i have must be used in the final.

  • “The Lasting Impact of the Cold War and Decolonization on Cambodia: A Journey Towards Stability”

The prompt for this hisory class essay is “How did the end of the cold war and the process of decolonization impact the country of Cambodia?” . The point that I am trying to argue in this essay is the the end of the cold war and the process of decolonization led to negative affects that are still being experinced in Cambodia today. This essay has 4 claims that requires 2 pieces of evidence per claim and analysis of the quotes as well. the outline that i have so far is the following:
Thesis: The aftermath of the Cold War, combined with Cambodia’s struggles after decolonization and the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime, have left a lasting mark on the country. This has led to ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises, showing how outside influences, economic difficulties, and changes in global politics have all played a role in shaping Cambodia’s journey towards stability.
Claim #1: The end of the cold war and the ideologies attached to it left a political vacuum in Cambodia that led to civil unrest still experienced in today’s world.
    Evidence #1:
    Evidence #1:
Claim #2: Decolonization brought economic challenges to cambodia as newly independent nations inherited colonial-era economic systems that were often exploitative and unequal
    Evidence #2:
    Evidence #2:
Claim #3: The fall of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979, combined with the end of Cold War support, exacerbated Cambodia’s humanitarian crisis.
    Evidence #3:
    Evidence #3:
Claim #4 (Optional): The actions put in place by outside countries had a negative effect on Cambodia as they tried to maintain control over the country. The actions taken by outside countries have led to the crisis state that Cambodia is in today.
Evidence #4: “In the Paris Peace Agreements, we witnessed the triumph of diplomacy over the ravages of war, laying a cornerstone for peace that echoes through generations.”
Shows how outside influence tried to make peace agreements on behalf of cambodia that resulted in backfire
    Evidence #4:
