Title: Leadership Strategies for Implementing a New Patient Tracking System in a Busy Emergency Department
The healthcare industry is dynamic. Every patient is different. Every situation is different. A good healthcare leader must be able to address situations as they arise and make decisions accordingly. Consider the leadership styles that would be especially helpful in this scenario:
You recently accepted the nurse manager position of a busy emergency department (ED) in a new organization that had 100,000 ED visits last year. These visits represent a 10% increase over the previous year. To meet the needs for staffing required for this sudden growth, the prior nurse manager hired 10 new nursing graduates and 10 nurse travelers that arrived on the unit a few weeks before you came. The breakdown in level of tenure and experience in your staff is: 25% highly tenured in this ED and experienced in this specialty; 25% tenured within the organization and proficient in this specialty; and 30% less than 2 years in the ED/organization and competent in this specialty. The remaining 20% of your staff are the experienced ED nurse travelers and inexperienced new nurses, both groups that are new to the organization.
One of your first new responsibilities as the ED nurse manager is to provide unit-based leadership for the implementation of a new patient tracking system that offers more functionality than the previous tracking system used by this ED for the past 7 years. During the hiring process, you learned that the organization was going to implement this new patient tracking system, and you shared that you had experience in implementing the same system in your previous job.
Write a paper in which you demonstrate how you, as the leader in the case example provided, would address the following:
Explain how you would provide leadership for the implementation of the new system. Include a description of the leadership behaviors that would be most effective to position your staff for success based on their experience and needs.
Explain how this implementation plan relates to your Clifton Strengths Signature Theme Report, including how this leadership situation aligns with or differs from your leadership profile.
Explain your rationale for your choices and appropriately reference literature that supports your thinking.
Explain how being able to successfully implement situational leadership better positions you to advocate for social change within your new organization on behalf of the patient population served. -
Title: The Impact of Stress, Physical Activity, and Divorce on Chronic Illness and Mental Health in Middle and Late Adulthood
Respond to these questions with at least 150 words and support each answer with an academic article
As discussed in chapter 14, chronic illnesses and overly normal amounts of stress is endured during one’s midlife. Do you think stress can influence the development of a chronic illness? Why or why not?
Dementia and Alzheimer’s are disheartening diseases which may impact our older loved ones physically involving the brain, but also mentally as it can trigger mental health complications such as immense anxiety. Explain how physical activity helps these diseases without the delay. How can physical activity help individuals with the disorder in everyday life physically and mentally? Be specific!
Love, marriage, and divorce rates among older individuals have increased rather than young individuals. What are the impacts of divorce in older people mentally (or physically)? Explain how divorce directly impacts one’s mental/physical health in middle or late adulthood. -
Title: The Impact of Pharmacological and Nonpharmacological Measures on Pain Control in Adult Hospitalized Post-Surgical Patients within the First 48 Hours Post-Operatively: A Nursing Perspective
Question: In adult hospitalized post-surgical patients, how does the use of pharmacological measures compared to nonpharmacological measures affect pain control within the first 48 hours post-operatively ?
Significance of the Study to Nursing
· Describe the importance of the study to nursing and justify the need for the study through clinical experience and through a review of the literature.
· Include primarily nursing literature, although literature from other disciplines can be used also.
o Example: This study is being conducted in an attempt to provide empirical data that will contribute to Nursing’s evidence-based practice. While nursing studies have been conducted to empirically investigate factors that influence African American women in following the breast cancer screening guidelines each have concluded that a qualitative study is indicated (Cullen, 2007, Anderson, 2008 and Smith, 2009).
Research Questions and/or Research Hypotheses
A study can designate either to have research questions or research hypotheses. The researcher will decide which one is appropriate depending on the research problem statement.
Research Questions:
· Write the research question(s) clearly concisely.
· The questions need to contain the population to be studied, the setting, and the variables of interest.
· The relationship between the problem and the research questions needs to be clear and indisputable.
· Connect the questions with the identified dependent and independent variables
o Example: In African American women ages 30 to 65 living in the Southeastern region of the United States, how does lack of insurance affect having a mammogram?
Research Hypotheses
· Write each hypothesis to state the expected outcome and indicate how this will be measured.
· You can write a simple hypothesis, which is a hypothesis that expresses an expected relationship between one independent and one dependent variable.
· A complex hypothesis refers to a prediction of a relationship between two (or more) independent variables and/or two (or more) dependent variables.
o Example: More African American women ages 30 to 45 who participate in a breast cancer education will get a mammogram than African American women ages 55 to 65 who receive only printed literature.
Theoretical/Conceptual Framework
In this section select a nursing or other theory that describes the problem being identified.
· Describe fully the theoretical or conceptual framework you selected to guide the development of the study.
· Explain the theory in sufficient detail to allow the reader to follow the logical flow between the theory and the proposed study.
· Make a conceptual map identifying the linkage between the problem, the theory, the interventions and the expected outcomes.
o Example: The theory that will be used to guide this research is Imogene King’s Theory of Goal Attainment (King,1981) because this theory states that individuals have the capacity to think, make choices, and select alterative courses of action that influence the goals they set and attain. -
Title: “Improving Healthcare Organizations through Strategic Leadership and Policy Implementation: A Case Study Analysis”
Understanding the responsibility and concerns of healthcare is important in creating policies that leadership can use to streamline success. If strategic leadership is not realized over time, healthcare organizations’ political influences may face challenges and create public disinterestedness in health policies. These issues create restrictions on the healthcare organization’s ability to meet its financial budget, gain community’s trust and involvement, and secure political influence(s). This negatively impacts the overall performance of the healthcare organization. The ideas of process innovation, risk taking, health building analysis, and governance greatly impacts “sense-making” for those being led. These ideas bring understanding to the role of governance in the organization. Review the case study “Australian Surgery Indicator Makes the Front Page” in Chapter 15 of your textbook and discuss the following questions in a minimum of 250 words:
After your review, do the conclusions you draw from the case justify the headline? Why or why not?
Discuss the indications found in Table 15-1 and their effect on the health care organizations efficiency in elective surgery.
Evaluate the avoidable rate of canceled surgeries and develop an implementation plan to overcome the concerns.
Develop a mini policy to address the issues between the doctors and the organization. -
Title: The Impact of Product Differentiation on Healthcare Costs in the United States
Please answer the following questions regarding Health Care Costs and Product Differentiation
Using supply and demand analysis, explain some of the factors that may have led to rising healthcare costs in the United States from 1960 to the present day. In your opinion, which factor has had the greatest impact?
Discuss the two ways that product differentiation affects the demand for the product. Give an original example of product differentiation.
