  • Title: SWOT Analysis and Recommendations for Dignity Health: Maximizing Resources and Efficiency in Marketing

During the analysis stage, you consider external factors that pose possible threats to or provide opportunities for your organization and compare these factors against your HCO’s internal operation to diagnose its strengths and weaknesses. Many HCOs have found it useful to conduct a SWOT analysis. SWOT is an acronym for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Strengths and weaknesses refer to elements that are internal to the organization; opportunities and threats are external to the organization. An effective SWOT analysis helps the marketing team determine the healthcare organization’s position in a particular market place as well as the positions of its competitors. By analyzing the current market and the deficiencies of the HCO’s competitors, and by assessing the HCO’s internal strengths and weaknesses, the marketing team can reposition the organization to meet and exceed the needs of its customers. For this assignment, you will conduct a detailed SWOT analysis of Dignity Health for your Final Project. Discuss your selected organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and possible threats.
The SWOT analysis should include the following five components:
Strengths – An organization’s resources and capabilities that can be used as a basis for developing a competitive advantage.
Weaknesses – Limitations of an organization to meet the needs of its determined customer base.
Opportunities – External conditions that may reveal certain new opportunities regarding profit and growth.
Threats – Factors or changes in the external environment that may present threats to the organization.
Summary/Recommendations – After conducting your SWOT analysis, write a paragraph in which you provide your recommendations to the CEO of your chosen healthcare organization. Also state how you will use this information to create a marketing plan that will ensure the following:The organization’s resources are not wasted
    Time is well spent

  • “Ensuring Quality and Compliance: The Role of a Health Care Manager”

ScenarioYou are being considered for a health care manager position at a local health care facility. The job description for this position emphasizes the need for quality assurance and improvement through tracking outcomes and analyzing the data. The first step in the interview process is to provide written answers for a series of questions sent to you by the facility’s HR department. The questions focus primarily on describing the process of tracking outcomes and improving quality and safety.
PreparationContinuous quality improvement (CQI) is the idea of constantly improving performance and outcomes. CQI is a foundational principle to the delivery of health care. Having high quality and safety ratings is important to a health care organization for these reasons:
The organization’s success can be advertised to the public to gain the trust of the community.
Delivering consistent, high-quality care keeps the organization in compliance with regulations, which are Conditions for Coverage and Participation set forth by the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid (CMS) and state health departments. Having high quality ratings helps in negotiations with payers to secure higher payments. Payers are increasingly tying payments to how the provider has performed with quality metrics, which are standards set forth by various agencies, including the National Council for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ). Do the following as you prepare to answer the interview questions:
Review the Conditions for Coverage (CFCs) & Conditions of Participation (CoPs), a list of federal CMS regulations for health care facilities (e.g., nursing homes, surgical centers, etc.) and operations (e.g., home health agencies, hospice agencies, etc.). Review “QI: Getting Inside Quality Improvement Mindset” from NCQA, which provides tips on how to gain a continuous quality improvement mindset. Visit The Joint Commission, which accredits and certifies hospitals and health facilities, and read about their accreditation process and quality standards. Many businesspeople use Microsoft Excel to plan, track, filter, and analyze data in their work environment. For an introduction or refresher on using Excel at work, consider watching the LinkedIn Learning videos located in this week’s Learning Activities folder: “Excel Essential Training” and “Excel Quick Tips.” Assessment DeliverableWrite a response for the hiring department that addresses the following questions in 175+ words each:
Describe some of the regulations and quality standards (e.g., CMS, NCQA, AHRQ, The Joint Commission) that you must maintain as a health care manager. Why is CQI/process improvement so important in a health care workplace? What are the impacts on a health care facility (e.g., hospital, doctor’s office) of external regulations and quality standards (e.g., CMS regulations, state regulations, The Joint Commission)? As a manager, how would you ensure that your department is compliant with external regulations and quality standards? Why is CQI process so important for quality of direct patient care? What are the outcomes on patient care if the health care organization does or does not have a good CQI process in place? As a health care manager, how would you ensure that continual improvements in quality are being made?
What are approaches that health facilities and agencies take to ensure the aptitude and competency of their clinical and non-clinical staff members? As a manager, what are some things you can do to ensure that your team has the proper resources to consistently deliver high quality care? What is the role of technology in direct patient care quality and safety? As a manager, how could you use technology (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Tableu) to help your department stay on track?

  • Title: Improving Coding and Documentation Practices for Accurate Reimbursement: A Performance Improvement Plan for Davenport Hospital

Part 3 – Look at the two 3M screenshots, evaluate for discrepancies in the DRG’s, MCC’s, and Relative Weights. Using the readings from this week, your independent research, and the Assignment Rubric, develop a well-thought-out response to the following statement:
Determine what discrepancies exist and interpret how they affect the Revenue Cycle Management Process. Your response should be made in 2-3 well-constructed paragraphs.
Part 4 -As you identified in Week 3, after reviewing the two screenshots from the 3M encoder, Mary Smith, RHIT, Inpatient Coder for Davenport Hospital was coding Acute Respiratory Failure as a secondary diagnosis when the attending physician did not confirm it. You were able to determine that there is a significant increase in the DRG payment when Acute Respiratory Failure is coded because it adds an MCC to the pneumonia DRG.
Because of this finding and the fact that the DRG of 193, Simple Pneumonia with MCC was the DRG with the large increase in the Case Mix index from the previous year that raised a red flag with the CFO, an external audit was launched on all charts coded with the DRG of 193. The findings were consistent in the fact that the coder was miscoding respiratory failure. Out of 47 charts coded in the previous 6 months with the DRG of 193, only 14 of them had supporting documentation. The 33 charts that were coded incorrectly happened to be patients of Dr. Black and were coded by Mary Smith.
Part 4 – Using the Assignment Rubric, focus on the findings and how you will report the outcomes for quality management purposes to the Compliance Committee.
Create a PowerPoint Presentation with a minimum of 5 slides including content that highlights the issue, the initial findings, the result of the audit, and outcomes reporting for quality to present to the facility and Committee.
Part 5 -Part 5 – From the quality report (PP presentation) in week 5, you will develop a performance improvement plan. After carefully reviewing all of the data presented in the Ethical Coding Scenario from Weeks 2-5, you will now research and develop a written performance improvement plan for both documentation and coding that you will present to the Compliance Committee. Be sure to include the issues with Dr. Black’s documentation and Mary Smith’s coding quality. Use the Assignment Rubric as a guide. Must be a minimum of two pages in APA format.
