Title: Ethical Dilemma: The Debate on Euthanasia
You must follow the following outline or your grade will be docked considerably.
a. You must include a title page and bibliography both of which should be formatted
according to Turabian and neither of which count towards the minimum/max pages of
the paper (10%).
b. Your paper will be between six (minimum) and seven (maximum) pages (double spaced),
12–point Times New Roman font. You may not go over the max and must exceed the
minimum to receive full credit. Also, writing on the sixth page is not six full pages. Six full
pages means six full pages of content at the minimum (10%).
c. Each page has the page number centered on the bottom of the page in the footer.
d. The paper which accounts for 20% of your grade will contain the following sections
delineated by enumerated headers:
1. The Problem (25%): This includes (not limited to) a 1–2 paragraph discussion
identifying why this is an important issue in Christian ethics and in society in
general. All major points of view should be presented in summary with clarity and
precision in this section. By “problem”, I mean, “why is this a debated topic?”
2. Relevant Sources of Authority (25%): What are the relevant sources of
authority on this issue? Include and write out at least 4 (four) biblical passages
that are relevant to the issue. If the passage is a long one you can give the
reference and summarize why it’s important. Also, you must cite 4 (four) of the
most influential authors you can find from contemporary ethics sources. Each
side of the debate should be represented in your relevant sources. These citations
must be properly footnoted in the body of the paper and included at the end of the
paper in a Turabian formatted bibliography (does not count toward
minimum/max).
3. Position Statement (30%): This section integrates the Bible, ethical sources,
and your prayerful and thoughtful consideration together into an essay expressing
why you hold the position you do. Use appropriately formatted footnotes. -
Title: “Navigating Legal and Ethical Challenges in Marketing and Selling Suggestive Beers”
Assume you have graduated with your MBA, and you have taken a management job at a small upstart brewery called “Noice.”
The brewery makes beers with names such as Noice Shoes, Noice Azz, and Noice Package. Predictably, Noice markets them with suggestive ads and labels. The labels are cartoonish sketches, and they depict the beer inside the can or bottle rather suggestively.
These beers have been very popular in local taverns, mostly because of their suggestive names and labels. Your boss now wants you to try to manage the sales team selling these beers at local liquor stores and grocery stores.
From the perspective of the sales team, discuss what legal and ethical impediments the team you are managing might have in getting the Noice beers sold at local liquor and grocery stores. -

Title: The Ethics of Gene Editing: Balancing Individual Autonomy and Societal Responsibility
you will write a philosophical paper (4-6 pages) that presents a topic from the applied
ethics section of the course excluding freedom of speech, two perspectives on this topic from class
readings, and then your unique contribution to the debate. You could argue that position A is right and
position B is wrong, or B is right and A is wrong, or that both are partially right and complementary, or
that neither are right. You could also refine a position, i.e., argue that position A is right, but for
different reasons, or you could give a stronger argument as to why A is right. You can use any opposing
set of articles in the class for this assignment except the articles in your prior essays from précis #1 or
the normative theory section. Do not use any reading from Vaughn. If you write on gene editing, make
sure to choose the articles by Gyngell, Douglas, and Savulescu and the ASHG position statement. -

“The Ethics of Physician-Assisted Suicide: Examining the Moral Implications and Kant’s Perspective”
Some people promote the idea that humans should have the right to die with dignity (see https://www.deathwithdignity.org/ ). Several states have legalized physician-assisted suicide (PAS). However, others may argue that a doctor prescribing a deadly prescriiption violates that doctor’s Hippocratic Oath or claim that suicide by any means is immoral. Doing research and taking into consideration the actual laws concerning when and how a confirmed terminal patient would be able to request PAS, make an argument that it is or is not a moral action. Also see if you can find Kant’s famous argument on the immorality of suicide. Does he have a point or are there just some times when the morally right thing to do is to allow a person to end his or her suffering?
The instructions for this week’s discussion board post are above. it is for W6: Kantian Deontology. -
“The Selection of State Judges: Examining Methods, Advantages, and Ethical Considerations”
You are (hopefully) familiar with how America elects its leaders in the executive and legislative branches. But, what about the judicial branch?
At the federal level, the President appoints judges, and they must be confirmed by The Senate. As for the state level, well, that is for you to explain.
Select either any one U.S. State and describe how the state trial and appellate judges are selected. At a minimum, answer the following questions:
Are these judges elected? Appointed? Some hybrid of both?
Are the methods the same or different between trial and appellate judges?
How long are the judges’ terms?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of how the state selects judges?
What is “The Missouri Plan,” and what are its strengths and weaknesses?
How does the state compare to “The Missouri Plan”?
As a manager or business owner, you may find yourself in a lawsuit, in the position to contribute to a judicial candidate’s campaign or both. With this in mind, please answer the following questions:
As an MBA student, do you think it’s a good investment to donate to a judicial candidate’s campaign? Is it an ethical investment? Why or why not?
Does this make you more or less inclined to litigate versus settle? Why or why not?
Does your state’s method of selecting judges give you more or less confidence in how to run a business? Why or why not?” -
“Exploring Controversial Social Issues: A Multi-Disciplinary Perspective” Title: Examining Contemporary Social Issues Through the Lens of Normative Ethics
INTRODUCTION:
Debates around topics such as gun ownership, abortion, and physician-assisted suicide are often so divisive that the prospect of reaching an agreement can seem impossible. How often does a person with a strong opinion on such an issue change the mind of someone with a conflicting but equally passionate view?
This assessment will prompt you to explore controversial, divisive issues like these. One goal will be to better understand the non-moral “hard facts” that are in the background of the moral issues. With research into the factual aspects of the debate, finding relevant statistics, measurable outcomes, and other data, perhaps we can work closer toward a resolution of debates around these social issues.
As you conduct your research and work on your segment, take some time to think about how to argue for your own position on the issue. Supporting your view will be done in part by the research you’re doing on the non-moral, empirical aspects of the topic. As part of your preparation for this assessment, you will also explore two academic disciplines or professions—psychology, nursing science, counseling, sociology, criminal justice, et cetera—to better contextualize your selected issue. You’ll also need to use ethical concepts—such as values, ethical principles, and ideals—along with ethical arguments to make a convincing case for your stance on the issue. Keep in mind that you have some powerful tools to draw on: the traditional normative ethical theories you applied in the second assessment and the critical theories covered in the third assessment.
OVERVIEW:
For this week’s assessment, you will create an audio or a video presentation that examines from various points of view a contemporary social issue you selected.
As the host of a television show (60 Minutes, VICE News) or radio program or podcast (Fresh Air, This American Life), you have been assigned to deliver an informative, 10-minute segment on the contemporary issue that you selected. As part of your segment, you will incorporate insights from two or more disciplines or professions, such as nursing and social work, or marketing, psychology, and biology. (These are only examples, and you should choose from professional insights that will best inform your argument.)
The intended audience for your segment is an intelligent but perhaps uninformed public, so this is your opportunity to engage them in an issue that matters to you.
In this assessment, you will demonstrate ethical reasoning by making sound decisions, taking appropriate actions with an awareness of the rights and well-being of others, and identifying the impact of personal and professional behavior.
PREPARATION:
Option 2: Produce the segment as an audio podcast or radio show.
As with the video option, Kaltura is an excellent format for audio. However, you may also record audio over a PowerPoint presentation (with simply text and/or images on individual slides).
If you would like to use another technology to create your video, please ask your instructor.
You must also include one of the following:
A PowerPoint presentation with highlights from the segment.
A transcript of the segment in a Word file or other document.
The PowerPoint or transcript of the segment should include APA-style citations and references.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Create a detailed and engaging video or audio presentation on a contemporary social issue that completes the following:
Describe a contemporary social issue associated with multiple viewpoints.
Analyze the importance of the issue.
Present conflicting perspectives impartially.
Analyze the primary interest(s) of at least three stakeholders invested in a contemporary social issue.
Explain at least one key argument associated with each opposing viewpoint.
Present conflicting perspectives impartially.
Analyze research findings from different academic disciplines that provide insights relevant to the contemporary social issue.
Present conflicting evidence and perspectives impartially.
Analyze a contemporary social issue from multiple perspectives using one of the three traditional theories of normative ethics.
State and defend your own position with clear reasoning in your own words.
Support your position with a discussion of normative ethical concepts.
