Improving Analysis of Our Town Introduction Our Town by Thornton Wilder is a classic play that explores the themes of life, death, and the human experience. In this essay, I will present an analysis of Our Town and how it portrays these
Few days ago you did my rough draft, these are the comments that my Professor mentioned that I need improvement. I need to present an analysis of Our Town not Evenden’s article instead, three things to do. 1. Rephrase the Thesis, do not “This essay will discuss how”; present main argument, use your own words no examples or quotations. 2. Support main ideas by quoting and citing direct language from the play in the form of MLA cited quotes to support your points. Page numbers for citations MUST match the class version of the text. 3. After each quote from he play, present an analysis of the quote. The title of the play needs to be italicized not in quotation marks. Fix Works Cited: In a separate page at the end of your essay, list the sources you quoted in the body of your essay. MLA formatting guidelines for each source. Use first and third person

Title: The Complex Motivations of Amir in The Kite Runner: Breaking Societal Norms for Personal Redemption
Essay prompt: Many works of literature feature a character who changes or disrupts the existing state of societal, familial, or political affairs in the text. They may break social norms, challenge long-held values or subvert expectations. The character’s motivation for this behavior is often complex. Using our novel, pick one of the three characters from the chart to think about their individual perspective and motive for acting the way that they do. Then, in a well-written essay, analyze how the complex motivation of the individual contributes to an interpretation of the work as a whole.
This is the thesis I did for it: In the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Husseni, the author uses Amir’s relationship with Soraya, his guilty conscience, and his Afghan culture to show why one goes against societal norms, even if it could result in hardship, to do what their morals consider correct.
You can change the thesis a little to make it fit more with what you are writing, but I want this to be the base concept of the essay.
The requirements of the essay are:
The introduction paragraph has to be composed of a Hook, Background, and the thesis statement
Body paragraphs have to be composed of Main Idea, Evidence (quote) 1, Analysis (of said quote) 1, Evidence 2, Analysis 2, and Link (wrap up of the paragraph with how the 2 evidences provided prove the main idea).
Conclusion paragraph format is further explained in the graphic organizer I provided.
There’s supposed to be 3 body paragraphs with at least 15 sentences per paragraph. Introduction and Conclusion has to be 7–10 sentences each.
If the essay turns out to need more than the pages I paid for, just tell me and I can pay extra just so the essay is not cut short from the requirements. I need you to be original and to not sound so professional (meaning that your writing has to be natural, like the one from a senior in High school, but without getting to be informal), and please don’t use AI. I would appreciate it if you could read the first 15 chapters of the book, but if it’s too much you can read summaries of said chapters just so you are well-informed on what you’re writing about. I provided a graphic organizer for the essay that you can use to guide yourself. But please follow the instructions and requirements I wrote here. If you have any questions, you can send me a message at any time.
I also added a PDF with the whole book, just in case. -

Paper # 1: Response to Tiffanie Wen’s “The Things that Do–and Don’t–Motivate Kids to Succeed”
All of our essays should follow the SAME STRUCTURE (at least four paras):

o Each Body Paragraph should have a closing/”so what?” sentence at the end
● A Conclusion that sums up your argument, highlights your main points, and connects back to
the prompt author and his or her argument

o Using appropriate punctuation—semicolons, colons, commas, dashes, and periods all do
different things and follow different rules!
o Using the present tense to describe Wen’s essay (or any shows, movies, anime, or books
that you use as examples), but using the past tense when you are talking about your
own personal examples or actual history that happened in the past.
Writing Topic:
According to Tiffanie Wen, how do intrinsic and extrinsic motivation work to help

Do you think that one form is more effective than the other?

taken from your personal experience, observations, or reading. -
“The Rhetorical Strategies of Tommy Lynch: Analyzing the Impact of Hope in the Face of Climate Change” Rhetorical Analysis of “Hor Uses Than” in the Essay Prompt
Prompt Option 1:
In the article “Why Hope Is Dangerous When It Comes to Climate Change” by Tommy Lynch, the author explores the role of hope in the face of the impending climate crisis. Drawing on the arguments presented by David Wallace-Wells and other experts, Lynch analyzes the tensions between hope, pessimism, and the urgent need for action. Your task is to write a rhetorical analysis essay in which you examine the rhetorical strategies used by Lynch to convey his message, and also to evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies in persuading the audience, and his purpose for writing this text.
Part 1: The expectation is that you analyze Lynch’s use of logos, ethos, and pathos (or a combination of two that you find to be dominant in his essay). How does Lynch appeal to reason, credibility, and emotion to support his argument? Identify specific examples of evidence, statistics, and anecdotes used to appeal to the reader’s logic, trust in the author, and emotional response. To explore these elements please examine Lynch’s writing style and tone. Question to promote critical thinking: “How does he use language (diction) and tone to establish his position and connect with the audience?” Please try to discuss the impact of Lynch’s stylistic choices on the overall persuasiveness of the essay.
Part 2: It is also important to pay attention to Lynch’s awareness of his target audience(s). How does Lynch tailor his message to resonate with the intended readership? Consider whether Lynch effectively anticipates and addresses the concerns or perspectives of his audience. Examine how Lynch envisions his essay influencing the reader’s perspective or behavior. Question to promote critical thinking: “Does he seek to inspire action, provoke thought, or foster a particular emotional response? Discuss any strategies used by Lynch to make his purpose clear and compelling to the reader. How does he align his purpose with the urgency of the climate crisis?
Part 3: Lastly, it is important to explore Lynch’s purpose for writing this essay. Investigate his overarching purpose in writing this essay. Question to promote critical thinking: What is Lynch’s primary goal or intention in addressing the relationship between hope and climate change? Analyze whether Lynch aims to inform, persuade, entertain, or provoke a specific response from the audience. How does this purpose shape the rhetorical choices made throughout the essay?
Wrapping up the essay, be sure to re-state the thesis statement (without using the exact words from your thesis), and to summarize the key rhetorical strategies employed by Lynch in conveying his message. Please then evaluate the overall effectiveness of these strategies in persuading the reader to reevaluate the role of hope in the context of climate change.
Consider the following questions about Lynch. You could also ask these questions about your selected Viewpoint texts:
What is the main argument that Lynch is making in his article? How does he support his argument using evidence and examples?
How does Lynch use rhetorical appeals– including appeals to ethos (credibility), logos (logic and reasoning), and pathos (emotions)? What other rhetorical strategies does Lynch use to make his argument? For example, how does he use language and tone? Authority?
Who is the intended audience for this article? Whom is the author trying to reach? How does Lynch address potential counterarguments or opposing views in his article? Does he effectively address these concerns?
What is the overall effectiveness of Lynch’s argument? Does he persuade the reader to agree with his point of view? Why or why not?
In the body of your essay, you will demonstrate your understanding of these kinds of texts, their message, and their audience, and develop support for your rhetorical argument with evidence from the text. This assignment does not ask you to argue for or against the essay’s topic. Rather, you will be writing more about the techniques the author uses than the topic of their essay. Be sure to review What is Rhetorical Analysis? in FAUGCW for further help in developing your analysis. Formatting and Requirements DO NOT write your essay directly in Achieve. DO NOT Submit your draft in Achieve. Your draft must be submitted in Canvas, and it will automatically be assigned a peer reviewer, once submitted on time. The process is automated in Canvas, so if you are late, you will not get credit for your draft and you will lose the opportunity to receive a draft to peer review. Refer to the instructions and draft goals for help as you write. DO NOT submit drafts or final papers in google docs or pages. Please use a word document. Your essay should be approximately 3 full pages as a draft but when revised – 4 full pages in length. Include your name, my name, class and date (in that order) in the upper left corner of the 1st page only.
Format your essay according to MLA guidelines (see Documenting Sources: MLA Style in Achieve)
