  • “Unveiling the Complexities of Environmental Gentrification: A Critical Examination of its Impact on Urban Communities”

We needed to post our thesis in a discussion and this is what I posted “Environmental gentrification is a complicated urban phenomenon that causes shifts in culture, tensions amongst residents and economic disruption that eventually changes the physical and population makeup of cities.”
“Additionally, you should not write a basic informative essay about a well-known or well-understood topic. Your essay should strive to offer some new or unique perspective or insight on the topic at hand.
Some questions you should consider addressing in the essay:
What is the problem or issue?
    Why is it a problem/issue?
    Who is affected by it?
    How are people affected?
When did it become an issue?
    Where does the issue exist?
Once you have identified a thesis—your main claim on the issue, think about what types of support will help your readers to better understand the viewpoint you are expressing. Will you need to describe a cause/effect relationship between things? Will you need to compare/contrast? Is there anything that must be defined for an average audience? Use these and other questions to consider how best you to explain your viewpoint to your readers. Organize your ideas in a logical manner to formulate the body paragraphs (support) in your essay.
Finally, use your conclusion to readdress your thesis in light of the supporting ideas you have provided in the body of the essay. The conclusion can also offer implications (other related matters to think about or seek more information on) or applications (possible actions that can be taken on the issue).
This expository essay should describes a problem or issue, not the solution. While your conclusion paragraph might give a brief glimpse at some possible solutions, the goal of this essay is simply to expose the issue. Your next essay—the argument essay—will be used to discuss a solution to the problem or issue you describe in the expository essay.
Here are examples of student essays that have earned a passing grade in the past. Please note that the examples are not perfect, but the authors tried their best to expose a problem or issue in society.
Your expository essay should be a minimum of 4 pages in length (1000 words) and include a Works Cited page with 3 reliable sources. The entire document should be properly formatted in MLA style. You should be sure to include well-formed introduction and conclusion paragraphs, and your body paragraphs should be well-organized with clear topic sentences at the beginning of each paragraph.
All draft essays will be checked for plagiarism and AI use, including writing or rewriting tools such as ChatGPT and Grammarly. Use of these tools is not permitted in this class, and will result in a grade of ‘0’ and potential disciplinary action. • “The Evolution of Marjane Satrapi: Navigating Political Turmoil and Social Upheaval in Persepolis”

Persepolis is the story of a young girl’s coming of age in the midst of political turmoil, social
upheaval and war. As such, and as we see, the author’s shifting political and religious
orientation, her conduct in school, her relationship to Western popular culture, and her own code

war. Drawing on specific episodes from the novel, discuss how Marjane Satrapi’s views and
behavior change and develop in response to the larger events unfolding around her.

  • Title: “Exploring the Impact of Social Media on Youth Mental Health: A Qualitative Research Study” “The Impact of COVID-19 on Work-Life Balance and Mental Health: Limitations and Future Directions”

Work on the topic of your argument paper (or any other topic of your choice) and extend your argument into a research paper through some primary research.  Complete the following tasks as discussed in class on Monday, April 1, 2024.
1 Write the topic of the research paper:
2 Create 2 to 3 research questions that will guide your research:
3 Give a list of data collection tools you will use.
4 Give the profile of the possible participants in your research. Upload the data collection tools you will use in your research. You can select one or more approaches to data collection from the given options. You can also gather your research data from any other reliable source, but you must mention the source of your data in the methodology section of your research paper.
    Survey
    • mainly used in quantitative research design
    • contains closed-ended questions/items
    • Closed-ended: you must provide possible answers for your participants to tick or select.
    • Surveys can be given to many people using Google Forms or any other online survey tool.
    Questionnaire
    • if it has closed-ended questions,  it can be used as a survey in quantitative research.
    • If it has open-ended questions, the responses need to be analysed qualitatively.
    • You must make your questions specific and align them with your research questions.
    Interviews (semi-structured interview)
    • You can use semi-structured interviews in qualitative research design.
    • You need to specify what data you expect from the interview.
    • Put down a list of questions you must ask during the interview.
    • You must make your questions specific and align them with your research questions.   Work with the topic of your choice, preferably the topic of your argument paper, and write a research paper in 8-10 pages.
You must state a researchable problem in the introduction, along with the background information of your topic.
Literature Review: Once you state your research problem in the introduction section, write a review of the relevant literature. In your literature review, you need to establish what work previous researchers have done to address the research problem you have stated in your introduction. You may also include the definitions of any key concepts that must be explained to the readers to help them understand your research effectively. Through your literature review, you must establish that previous researchers have yet to solve the research problem and that further research is needed.
Research questions: The literature review must end with 2 to 3 research questions you aim to address.
Methodology: Once your literature review is in place, which justifies your research problem by grounding it in existing research, you can state your research methodology.
Your methodology section begins with describing the research approach you have adopted, qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods.
Describe the data collection tools you have adopted to collect the data needed to answer the research questions. (Survey, questionnaire, interview, observation or any secondary data)
After that, explain the data analysis procedure you adopted to analyze the data you gathered.
Results: After analyzing your data, you will arrive at some results. Present the refined version of your results in the results section and interpret those results for the readers in light of your research question.
If you adopt a quantitative research approach, you will have charts, tables, and graphs as results.
If you adopt a qualitative approach, you will have themes and categories as results, which need to be presented along with the excerpts from the raw data (e.g. interview transcript) as representative examples.
Discussion: After you present your results with interpretation, you can officially discuss how your key findings have answered your research questions. You can also compare your findings with the previous research studies you mentioned in your literature review.
You can also point out some implications and any limitations of your research.
Conclusion: Finally, you present the conclusions of your research, make some generalizations and give ideas for further research in your topic.
