  • Living Healthfully for Ourselves and the Planet: The Importance of Changing Our Relationship with the World

    Choose one of the two prompts below and write an essay following that prompt:
    Pollan, Jamail & Lappe argue that to make an impact on climate change, citizens will have to begin understanding their relationship to the world differently. Compose an essay in which you draw on the insights and examples from the texts to make your own argument about the ways we could and should live more healthful lives for ourselves and the planet. Be sure to anticipate and address counterarguments to your proposals. (If change were easy, more of us would do it, after all.)
    Pollan and other writers in this chapter argue that changing our dietary habits can improve our health and the health of the planet. Compose an essay in which you place Pollan in conversation with either Anna Lappé and or Jamail (Use key ideas and examples from the two authors to build an argument about which changes you think are most pressing, given the evidence you have learned in these pieces. What challenges do you see, and how do you suggest addressing them?

    In a TED talk video we watched earlier in this module, a man named Akala, who founded the Hip Hop Shakespeare company, eloquently highlights verses by hip hop artists and those by Shakespeare to demonstrate the things both poetic and dramatic modes have in common.
