  • Engaging with and Analyzing the Debate on Gay Chicano Literary Absence: A Critical Examination of Vigo’s “The Place of Gay Male Chicano Literature in Queer Chicana/o Cultural Work” and Calvo and Esquibel’s

Engagement with and analysis of a debate–For this essay, you will write a 4-5 page argument and analysis that engages with the the critique of the discourse of Gay Chicano literary absence as articulated in Antonio Vigo′s essay ″The Place of Gay Male Chicano Literature in Queer Chicana/o Cultural Work″ and in Luz Calvo and Catriona Esquibel′s response to his argument ″Our Queer Kin.″.
In this essay, you will become a participant, even a mediator, in the argument you see unfolding between Viego and Calvo and Esquibel.
NOTE: This essay invites you to practice a w skills crucial to college writing, critical thinking, and logical argumentation.
Due to the nature of the argument we see emerge, especially due to Calvo and Esquibel′s frequent misreadings and misrepresentations of Vigo′s text and their defensive posturing in their response to his essay, you are practicing the art of respectfully critiquing an argument/paper/writer. In other words, much of what you will be doing in this paper is identifying and explaining Calvo and Esquibel′s misreadings, potentially thinking about the effect (rhetorical effects) of the misreading, and offering a corrective by referring to Viego.
Instructions: For this assignment, I recommend that, in addition to having as thorough an understanding of Vigo′s argument as possible, you select 3-4 main points that help you think about both of the articles together. Some questions to consider may include: How does the response work with or against Viego? Is there anything the response misses, overlooks, or misunderstands? What, if any, are agreements between the two works?

  • Title: A Trip to the Dining Hall

Please include an MLA heading on your documents.
I like this narrative. It has desсrіptive moments so if had ended on page one or one and a half pages, I might have accepted it as a desсrіptive essay, but it is mainly a story, a narrative. Even the title is narrative – going to see. Would you write a desсrіption, perhaps of seeing your mom in the green uniform amid the tables, or another desсrіption based on one of the topics? A desсrіption is not based on a sequence of events, but is spatial focused on something. You deserve a better grade, but I need a desсrіption. Simply re-submit for full credit.

  • Title: Gothic Influences in Modern Popular Culture: Exploring the Presence of Gothic Elements in Contemporary Media

    Description
We have spent the past 12 weeks discussing Gothic elements in literature. We have also talked about how some of the elements we’ve learned about while reading “classic” Gothic literature can be found in modern literature and film. For this assignment, you will have the chance to research and explain how the Gothic tradition is present in a modern, popular object. You could choose to write about movies, TV shows, food, music, fashion, decor, hair styles, art, or any other aspect of popular culture that interests you. Just make sure you choose something that clearly exhibits elements of the Gothic tradition.
    Instructions
Use at least one reliable source to research and gather information about your chosen object. Additional sources are permitted. You may use the source(s) to learn more about your topic and/or to further explore the object’s connection to the Gothic tradition. Make sure you keep track of your source(s) and cite accordingly.
Analyze your chosen object and identify the ways in which Gothic elements appear in or transform this object. I suggest you take detailed notes as you do your analysis.
Organize your observations and identify a main idea or claim you’d like to share. Then, find supporting evidence from your research and your own analysis of the object.
Submit your findings by the deadline.
    Submission
The submission may be prepared in any format you’d like, such as a voice recording, video presentation (ex. Studio), infographic (ex. PiktochartLinks to an external site. orCanvaLinks to an external site.) , slideshow or PreziLinks to an external site., animated videoLinks to an external site., interactive imageLinks to an external site., or any other creative way that suits you. If you need help selecting a format, let’s talk.
Note: Make sure that your submission is uploaded to Canvas correctly. If I cannot access your submission, I cannot grade it. In this case, your grade for this assignment will be a zero.

  • Title: The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health: An Annotated Bibliography and Research Outline Annotated Bibliography: 1. Source: “The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health” by Sarah Roberts, published in the Journal of Social

Create an annotated bibliography.  You will need to choose a research topic and find at least SIX different sources about your topic.  For each source, you will write an annotation underneath that answers the following three questions:
    * How/where did I find my source and what credentials (if any) does the author have (as it pertains to the topic)?
    * What is the source about?  You will summarize the content of the source here in two sentences or so – you can write longer if you need/want to
    * How credible is the source?  How did I determine this?
NOTE: Write a detailed research outline along with the annotated bibliography. All you need to do is plan out the research paper—-you DON’T have to write a full-fledged research paper.

  • “Analyzing a Critical Article on Literature: A Case Study on the Use of Literary Theory in Interpretation” Analyzing a Critical Article on Literature: A Case Study on the Use of Literary Theory in Interpretation

Part of writing an effective analytical research paper (which you will begin working on a little later in the course) involves using evidence directly from your primary texts (the literature itself) as well as the works of other critics and scholars (secondary texts). Therefore, you will need to get comfortable with finding these types of sources, analyzing them, and accurately quoting or paraphrasing from these outside sources in your own writing. This activity helps build these research skills by writing a brief article analysis.
For this activity, choose a critical article from one of the GMC Library databases that makes a clear argument about any one of the stories you’ve read for the class so far. The databases that would work best are Bloom’s Literature, JSTOR, Literary Reference Center, Literature Resource Center, or ProQuest (see the Library Database How-To in the Online Learning Resources this week for more on accessing and searching those). The article you choose must provide more than basic biographical information and plot summary to make an opinionated argument about some aspect of the literary work you read in class. Your response should be at least 300-500 words in length and sufficiently address all stated content requirements.
    Requirements:
    Analysis
In your analysis, you should clearly identify the article author’s thesis and main points by briefly SUMMARIZING the article’s main ideas.
Next, ANALYZE the article author’s argument. What is he or she trying to say about the literary material? What textual evidence does the author provide? What new point or idea is the author trying to introduce about the literature? Also make sure to consider what literary theory the author is using. How can you tell?
Finally, EVALUATE the article author’s argument. Is the article’s thesis relevant or convincing to you? Why or why not? What does the author do (or not do) that helps to convince readers of his or her viewpoints? Would you have used that literary theory in your own analysis of the text? Why or why not?
At some point in your paper, you should include at least one QUOTE and/or one PARAPHRASE from the article, with appropriate in-text citations.
    MLA Style
Your paper must be formatted according to MLA format (this includes having a header, double spacing throughout the document, appropriate font, etc.)
Use correct MLA in-text documentation as needed.
You must include a Works Cited page at the end of your paper.
For more information about MLA style, view the MLA Formatting and Citations page: https://gmc.mrooms3.net/course/view.php?id=53340.
