I am a junior in an Honors English class with a very picky teacher. It is important to note that this paper should sound like a research paper and not a book report as my teacher emphasizes.
My teacher wants the first paragraph to be an introduction/history/background of the topic. No concrete definitions of the word abandonment, but a sort of summary of what it is and how it has been researched, and how it affects children as they grow up. The first paragraph should have a flow quote. (8ish well developed sentences)
The second paragraph should be about how abandonment affects the relationships they make as a child and older. This should include a flow quote. (10ish well developed sentences)
The third paragraph should be about how abandonment affects the emotions of these people as they grow up and when they are older. Also should include a flow quote. (10ish well developed sentences)
The fourth paragraph is about how abandonment affects the behaviors of these people- how they act as a kid and as an adult. Also should include a flow quote. (10ish well developed sentences)
The fifth paragraph should be about how treatments and long term outlooks for abandonment. Include flow quote. (8ish well devleoped sentences).
No conclusion.
Also do not do concluding sentences at the end of paragraphs. Also in the intro paragraph make sure to include the thesis as the very first sentence (what the topic is/what my claim/point is)
Do not include quotes that mention neglect, as neglect and abandonment aren’t the same.
The first source to incorporate is: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10298591/#:~:text=The%20child%20who%20experiences%20abandonment,loss%20of%20trust%20in%20people. (The title is “is rejection, parental abandonment or neglect a trigger for higher perceived shame and guilt in adolescents?”)
The article I attached about “Child Abandonment: Historical, Sociological, and Psychological Perspecties” is what to incorporate as well.
The Nature of Child Neglect article attached should also be used but if cannot find enough information, find another source that ends in .gov or .org.

“Reflecting on My Journey as a Writer: A Meta-Essay” Reflecting on My Journey as a Writer: A Meta-Essay As I sit down to write this meta-essay, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment
“The Meta-Essay”
Assignment
Time to write an essay about your writing—a meta-essay. Write an essay that describes your journey, and/or you growth, as a writer this semester by pointing to specific moments in your writing throughout the semester. Be sure to detail the challenges as well as the successes.
We’ve come a long way this semester in our thorough exploration of the elements of essay writing, of the principles of unity, development, and coherence, of audience and purpose. The Meta-Essay asks you to revisit and to pull together what you’ve learned throughout the semester about effective writing. Specifically, the assignment is to look over your coursework and to write a clear, coherent assessment of the extent to which you grown as a writer. In addition to your formal essays, you’ve accumulated many “artifacts,” that is, rough drafts, peer-feedback, etc. When carefully examined, these artifacts help to tell the story of your growth as a writer in between the major milestones of the semester—the formal essays.
What are off-limits for this assignment are the instructor comments. The goal with this piece isn’t to tell me what I’ve shared with you. I already know what I’ve said and written about your writing. The goal is for you to articulate thoughtfully on the decisions you made as a writer. Instructor comments are not allowed as source material for this assignment.

Tips and Suggestions for a Successful Essay:
Strong writers are specific writers! Be specific in your writing and think of clarity.
Use the Purdue OWL link for proper MLA format
Leave yourself time for editing and revision!
For the working thesis: this is your overall argument for the paper based on your analysis of the assigned texts. Clearly indicate your position in response to the topic.
Reference the PIE paragraph structure. The P is the point, or topic sentences, then you give an illustration of the point, or a specific example. The body paragraphs function to support your thesis, so be sure to use direct quotes and examples.
Avoid using lengthy quotes! You should only use 1-2 direct quotes per paragraph and the majority of the paragraph should be your voice. Try not to use more than 3 lines of direct quotes. -
