  • “The Clash of Individual Rights and the Greater Good: A Comparison of Antigone and the US Patriot Act”

The Two Topics are Antigone and the United states and the US patriot act
The first draft of your term paper should be in proper MLA format.  It should cite the version of ANTIGONE I passed you.  To cite that version properly, draw upon what you need from the following information concerning the published book containing that version of ANTIGONE:
    Three Theban Plays
    by Sophocles
Introduction and Notes by Pedro de Blas
    Translated by Peter Constantine
    Barnes & Noble Classics
    New York
    2007
Each term paper should contain the following elements:
    1.  An introductory paragraph presenting your thesis that your chosen historical conflict parallels the conflict in ANTIGONE.
    2.  An explication of the argument from the greatest good of the greatest number, as Creon might make it.
    3.  An explication of the argument from the greatest good of the greatest number, as one of the sides in your chosen historical conflict might make it.
    4.  An explication of the argument from individual rights, as Antigone might make it.
    5.  An explication of the argument from individual rights, as one of the sides in your chosen historical conflict might make it.
    6.  An analysis of the possibility of compromise in ANTIGONE, had both sides been open to compromise.
    7.  An analysis of the possibility of compromise in your chosen historical conflict, had both sides been open to compromise.
    8.  A concluding paragraph offering a fresh thought.
Your term paper must conclude with a proper list of sources in MLA format.  You should cite to at least six sources, other than ANTIGONE.  Do not rely on summaries drafted well after the event by people who weren’t there.  Find first-hand sources whenever possible.  Provide a citation for every quotation; and for every interpretation, idea, or thought which is not original with you.
The body of your term paper should be no less than five double-spaced pages (about 1250 words).

1 – Some believe that the origin of the story (One Thousand and One Nights) is Arabic, including the critic and poet Sami Mahdi, who wrote a book in 1984 entitled (One Thousand and One Nights…an authentic Iraqi book). Discuss this information and indicate your opinion on the subject. Do you agree or not and why?
2- There were discussions conducted by a group of writers about the future of the short story, in which they divided into two groups, one of whom did not believe that there was a future for the short story, and the other who believed that it was an art that was completely appropriate for the present time? I’m looking into this topic and what do you think?
3 – Do you think that there are types of marriage that still exist today, like those that existed in the pre-Islamic era (watch the video)? Or in other words, have you heard of new types of marriage that currently exist in some societies, including Arab ones? Explain this with examples?

  • Title: The Real World Consequences of Media Bias

I  have attached the requirements as a screenshot and I  have attached writing assignment 2 as an attachment. Please follow all of the instructions and ask me questions when needed.
    Context:
Your second writing assignment invited you to explore an aspect of media bias, and produce an informative essay in which you investigated and explained that aspect to your audience. Now that you have plenty of information in place, let’s take this one step further.
This research paper will ask you to expand upon your previous research done and consider further implications of media bias. We know it exists; we know how to recognize it and think critically about it. But how does it affect people? What are the real world consequences?
You can use as much of your informative paper as you want/need to kickstart this one–resources, information, even whole paragraphs. Your ultimate goal is to produce an argumentative, thesis-based paper that not only explains and defines media bias, but makes a claim about its effects.
    Prompt Options:
Remember, you may use parts of or expand upon your informative essay. However, your overall task is going to be a bit different. Here are your prompt options. Choose one of the following:
While social media participates in enabling media bias through algorithms, echo chambers, and emotional headlines, it’s can also play a big role in combating it. What are some ways in which social might help dispel some of the myths perpetuated by mainstream media? Incorporate specific, real-world examples.
How might a certain type of media bias lead to real-world consequences for a specific group of people? (Ex: a racial group, an age group, a particular sex or gender, etc). Investigate how this group of people is affected by the way they are portrayed (or neglected) by one or more media outlets reflecting one of more types of media bias.
“Big story” bias is when the rush to report on something that seems major results in leaving out large parts of that story’s context. How has the reporting of one particular story (for example, a war, a natural disaster, a major government decision, etc) had major implications or consequences for a group of people with which that story is connected? *Note: it’s possible that “big story” bias is combined with other types of bias!
According to some critics, reaching for objectivity in the attempt to completely eliminate bias comes with major limitations because journalists actually have the responsibility to take an ethical standpoint in their reporting. How might objectivity affect the quality or purpose of the reporting? Do you agree or disagree that certain types of bias are actually necessary for quality journalism? Why or why not?

  • Title: The Value of Education: A Comparison of Tara Westover’s Narrative and Personal Experiences in College

You will need a directed summary and clear thesis for the introduction.
I will provide a pdf of what a directed summary should look like
I will also provide a pdf of comments and suggestions from a previous essay so as to not make the same mistakes so make sure to read tthem.
    *Dont be vague or repetitive
The book is Educated by Tara Westover
MAIN PROMPT:What, according to Westover, was the value of her education? Do you agree with her assessment? To support your position please develop concrete/specific example based on your experiences, observations, or anything you have read, including readings assigned in English 4.
Evidence: While NO INTERNET SOURCES ARE ALLOWED in this essay, students may use (and cite) any of the readings that have been assigned from Write It Review during the Spring Quarter.
NOTE: If using one of the Write It Review essays, consider what the relationship of the text is to Westover’s narrative (or your own). Does it align with Westover’s narrative, depart from it, or offer a different way of thinking about it?
    Tips for getting started:
There is a lot of material to work with in Westover’s text, but a directed summary that provides a basic outline of her narrative journey is a good place to start. Here you might think about the stultifying education she received growing up at Buck’s Peak and contrast it with what she learned about herself and the world after enrolling at BYU.
Questions that might guide your response:
    • Many of you are finishing your first (or second, or third) year of college; have you seen personal growth either inside or outside the classroom and, if so, how? In short: what have you learned about yourself and the world since you began college? Again, the things that you have learned need not focus specifically on knowledge gleaned from classrooms. Here, you might explore ideas of race, culture, gender, class, nation, or social disparity. You might also write about new skill sets you have acquired related to time management, personal accountability, mental balance, or communication.
    • Does what you have learned during your college career align with the education you received growing up or does it complicate or disrupt that previous education?
Prefferd grade would either be an A6 or an A%
A 6 paper (A, A-, B+) commands attention by engaging the material in an insightful and mature manner. The response is clear, logical, and convincing. Further, the response is fully developed, relying on well-chosen examples and persuasive reasoning. The 6 paper demonstrates a strong control of language, a fluid use of sophisticated sentences and a notable understanding of the conventions of written English.
A 5 paper (B, B-) is clearly thoughtful and competent. The response consistently relies on effective examples that are carefully developed. All parts of a 5 paper will be on topic, though the overall response will not be as accomplished or elaborated upon as a 6 paper. A 5 paper often has a less fluent and complex style than a 6 paper, but it does show a clear control over word choice and sentence variety while coherently observing the conventions of written English
