  • Title: “Working with Adversaries: Lessons Learned from Real-Life Teamwork Experiences”

Working in teams has become standard practice in the workplace, as well as in the classroom.  As you may have experienced, typically teams are made-up of persons that have similar objectives in mind.  In this Discussion, we explore one aspect of teamwork that frequently gets overlooked – solving problems with a person(s) who may disagree with you or have dissimilar objectives.
First, view the Tedx Talk by Leah Garces (Sep 2020) entitled “A lesson in turning adversaries into allies” ( https://www.ted.com/talks/leah_garces_a_lesson_in_turning_adversaries_into_allies ).
In her speech, Garces offers three (3) “Lessons Learned” from working with her adversary.  For your post, you will respond to the three lessonsby offering an example(s) of a situation when you worked with someone you may have disagreed with in solving a problem.
In your response, comment on what you did to resolve your differences. Specifically, in your final solution, did you compromise any of your objectives towards an agreeable solution or did you convince your adversary to “see it your way” in solving the problem? Maybe they convinced you of their position? Be specific in your response.

  • “Critical Analysis of Social, Media, and Academic Perspectives on Diversity and Inclusion in Education”

This assessment is a written assessment that provides an opportunity for you to display your understanding of one (1) course theme (SES; Families; Race, Ethnicity, Culture; Immigration; Sexuality; Sex; Gender; Religion) in relation to education and/or schooling in order to demonstrate your capacity for critical thinking (can you let me know what topic would be your most preferred to do?).
You will do this by analysing and evaluating commentaries on your selected course theme and issue from one of each these three (3) categories: (1) social media (i.e. Twitter comment; Facebook post: Meme), (2) broadcast and print media (i.e The Guardian, The Australian, The Conversation), and (3) academic articles (i.e. Peer-reviewed journal article or book chapter).
You are asked to compare and contrast the evidence, reasoning, values and assumptions each display, using your understanding of the selected course theme to critically evaluate each source, and suggest general lessons for future research.
In analysing these issues and evaluating these sources, you will be asked to: pay particular attention to how diversity and social justice are conceived, what stereotypes are evident (explicit or implicit), how realistic or ideological each account is, and how consistent the accounts are with your views. The reliance on and reliability of evidence should also be considered. You will also be asked to consider whether the public debate around these issues reflects the course philosophy of inclusive education, and how such debate might influence your future teaching practice and inform your future professional learning needs based on the APST.
    Criteria & Marking:
    Students are assessed on:
Understanding and application of course terms and concepts.
Critical evaluation of issues and sources regarding difference and inclusion.
Academic literacy and clarity of written expression (including the ability to understand and follow instructions for the assessment task).
