“China’s Economic Engagement in Latin America: A Case Study of [Country Name] and its Implications for the United States” Title: “The Importance of Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace: A Comprehensive Report”
Assignment: You are to prepare a report on a Latin American country and its engagement with China discussed in Wise’s book. As China has emerged as a world power, it is extending its influence in all corners of the world including Latin America. The visible signs of this influence are China’s level of trade and investment in the region as well as its most recent project called the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and even more recently the so-called Digital Silk Road and the Health Silk Road. Using the framework used by Carol Wise in Chapter 1 and in other chapters of “Dragonomics”, prepare a report on one of these countries (Wise discussed 6 countries) to inform the reader about its current economic relationship with China and the implications for the United States. You can also make a recommendation as to what the United States, which has been the predominant influence for the past 100 years, should do about this new presence in Latin America.
Deadline: Due May 7th. If you would like some feedback prior to your final submission, you can send me a draft by April 23rd at the latest.
Length: About 10-12 pages maximum should be sufficient to complete your report. If you feel you need more space or are having difficulty finding enough information, get in touch with me. The format should be Times New Roman or Arial font, 12-font size, doubled spaced with 1-inch margins. The main source should be “Dragonomics” by Carol Wise but you are free to add another main source.
Structure of the Latin America-China Economic Relations Report:
Background Information: (1-2 pg.) Your country report should include a brief and basic background information of its economic relationship with China so far. You should try to obtain current data in particular from the last 5 years whenever possible. If you are using some indicators of development such as economic growth, trade and investment, pick and choose what indicators best describe the relationship. Tables and figures must have a purpose in your narrative; otherwise, they should not be there.
The economic engagement of your country with China (9-10 pg.) Describe your country’s trade, investment, loans, BRI participation, Digital Silk Road participation, or any other type of significant economic and political engagement. What is (are) the major form(s) the economic relationship takes? What are the benefits for both parties? Any pitfalls/challenges? Why did they engage in this relationship? How is it working for the receiving country? You can take a micro approach and select an important industry or service sector (coffee, oil, banking, etc.) mostly impacted to show how a relation with China is affecting this country. Is it increasing the country’s exports? Is it improving its infrastructure to increase commerce and competitiveness? In general, who will benefit and who will lose by this type of economic engagement?
In general, I will look for the following:
The first paragraph should include a summary of what the paper is going to be about. Use subheadings throughout the paper to guide the reader about the basic structure of your paper.
Support or provide documentation for your claims. Provide the sources of figures/tables/facts and support your assertions. If someone else said it originally, then credit that individual. Failure to credit others for their ideas, information, or data constitutes plagiarism and is subject to disciplinary action. If you are making your own personal claims, use data or other references to support your claims.
A conclusion or summary. Don’t simply stop writing after you have reached your x page goal. A research paper should not have a cliffhanger ending. Give your reader a sense of closure and conclude your thoughts/ideas. Put your argument in perspective by giving some sort of summary which recaps the major issues and key points that led to you to come to your conclusion.
Final Paper: Your final paper should include: one, a cover page with a title, the author of the report; two, the main text, and three a page at the end with the Reference List (minimum of 10 sources besides Wise’s book). Only the main text count for the page count. -
“Prosperity through High Taxation and Welfare: A Comparative Analysis of Scandinavian Countries and the UK”
The assignment is to write a research paper on a comparative aspect of two countries’ economic systems. I already have a topic area, research question, and thesis that I need to stick to.
Topic area: The success of Scandinavian countries in achieving high scores in measures of prosperity such as the HDI despite relying on policies of high taxation and welfare spending that failed in other countries.
Research question: How is it that Scandinavian countries achieve high levels of prosperity under conditions of high taxation and governmental involvement in industries, when countries such as the UK suffered under similar policies?
Thesis: The high levels of taxation and welfare spending in the Nordic countries has, in fact, limited the growth of their economies, however, the negative effects of these policies are mitigated by country-specific factors such as high social cohesion, historical prosperity prior to the implementation of these policies, and a smaller population, meaning that the Nordic countries are able to achieve levels of prosperity under these policies that would not be possible in other states.
Write an economic research paper that fits these criteria. It should include an introduction, which includes the thesis statement, then the paper sould have a 4-6 page literature review on research on the topic, and then another several pages of analysis with sources to back up my thesis and compare the Scandinavian countries to the UK (comparing it to the UK is v important, it must appear in my analysis). -
“The Evolution of Poverty and Inequality: A Macro-Economic Analysis of [Country] over the Last Two Decades” The Evolution of Poverty and Inequality: A Macro-Economic Analysis of [Country] over the Last Two Decades Introduction
The objective of this essay is simply to draw the profile of the evolution of poverty and inequality, in their various dimensions, over the recent period – ideally the last two decades. However, the profile should not be limited to finding the right figures, drawing two or three charts and commenting on their shapes. It should also rely on telling the macro-economic, and possibly the macro-social, story of the country during the period of analysis. Major shocks have hit most economies of the word in the last 20 years, including the 2008-9 great recession, the COVId-19 pandemic, and more recently the rise of inflation. It is not necessarily the case that these events had a direct and significant effect on poverty and inequality, but the question must be asked of whether this is the case, and, if it is not, what may explain this absence. ON the other hand, the existence of trends in poverty and inequality requires explanation.
You are free to choose the country you want to study. However, your choice will depend on the kind of data and macro-economic country review available. To help you on the poverty and inequality side, the full World Bank data base is provided in attachment with the present document. You could also visit the following sites: WID (World Inequality Database) and the World Income Inequality Database at WIDER.
Macro-economic reviews are periodically undertaken by the International Monetary Fund under Article IV of its agreement (documents are labeled Article IV reports on the IMF site). You may also look at the bi-annual World Economic Outlook Reports of the IMF, which comes with an appendix on countries or regions. The OECD country reviews are also a helpful source but cover only developed countries. The Economist Intelligence Unit is another interesting reference which covers practically all countries in the world.
Of course, I am at your disposal to gather more references once you’ll have decided which country you want to study.
Essay should not be longer than 14,000 characters (including spaces, but excluding charts)
Please cite figures and cite everything with APA7. please include charts and everything. please label all the figures and make everything clear and good. please cite everything. -
The Impact of High-Tech Industries on China’s Economic Growth: A Comprehensive Analysis

The paper should be double-spaced, 10-12 pages (excluding tables and charts), roughly 2500-3000 words, in length.
The paper should include a title and be divided into sections, and each section should include an appropriate heading.
Your paper should include your research question, an introduction, and a conclusion.
For the main body of your paper, it is recommended that you present useful data in table and/or graphical forms, if applicable.
You should make your own individual conclusion based on the research findings. That is, in addition to referencing and synthesizing the work done by other scholars and the data you may collect/present, a good paper should include your own contributions and interpretation of the information (e.g., what can households, firms, or policymakers learn from your findings? What does your research say about the future growth prospects or major challenges faced by the Chinese economy?)
Please use a consistent style to cite all your sources in the bibliography section (no need to be annotated).
Please convert your document into a PDF file and upload it to Canvas.
The draft need more detail, like table, data, or citation, so make sure the paper is professional and humanized.

“Exploring Minimum Wage and Poverty in the United States: Data Analysis and Historical Context”
The variables worksheet and excel sheet are in the signature assignment tab on the left.
Do the variables worksheet. Just follow the instructions. Once you complete it, you can send it to me if you like so I can check it.
The variables worksheet gives you one year of data, now use those formulas to fill in the excel sheet for all the years. It is just dragging the first equation down the column.
Make your three graphs. Each will have 2 lines on them.
Then write a short, one-page paper on these things…….Your paper will be 5 paragraphs…..Where did US minimum wage come from, where did the poverty thresholds come from, and what do your three graphs mean (A paragraph for each graph). Your explanations should tell a story. It should not be a mathematical explanation. List your sources for paragraph one and two.
You can collaborate on the graphs and data, but NOT on the one page paper.
Turn the excel sheet (which will have your data and graphs on it) and the one page paper in under the signature assignment tab.
If you want to talk about it, make an office hours appointment with me on blackboard or send me an email.

Title: The Impact of Inflation on Business Cycles and Economic Growth
You might wish to go through the table of contents or index of our textbook early in the course and identify a topic that interests you. Essay #1 should focus on material learned in parts I and II of the course- markets, prices, price formation, economic growth, inflation, and unemployment and their relationship to the business cycle.
After you have selected a topic, it might help to browse through media. Good sources for economic news include periodicals such as Businessweek, The Economist, Fortune, and others. Newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, and Christian Science Monitor are also good sources for current economic news articles.
Once you have identified a topic of interest, selected, and read articles for review, think about how they are linked to the material learned in the class and write your report.
The essay should follow the format noted below:
INTRODUCTION. The introduction states the reason(s) why your topic deserves consideration. In other words, why is your topic relevant and why is it of interest to the public?
SUMMARY OF RESEARCHED ARTICLEs. Each article should be summarized separately. At the beginning of each summary, please state the author, the title, the source of the article, and the date it was published. Do not start a new page with each summary. Also, consider that the articles you select must have a common theme or topic. They can’t be randomly selected articles on Macroeconomics.
COURSE CONTENT OR TEXTBOOK CONNECTION. Search through your textbook and obtain all information that relates to your topic. Show how the articles supported or contradicted information in your textbook.
EVALUATION AND CONCLUSION. In this section, you should state and assess the topic. How does this topic relate to your life now and in the future? How does this topic affect you, people you know, or a particular business or industry?
