Research speedy trial guidelines for the state of California.  Based on that information, how long can a trial be put off?  Do you believe this is reasonable or justified?  If you were the victim or family member of a victim of a violent crime, do you think your opinion would be different?  

Background Information:  There have been multiple complaints over the last 30 days from downtown merchants regarding a rising amount of homeless persons in the area and park.   The merchants are complaining about their customers being accosted by constant panhandling, coming to their business to find persons camping in front of their business, having to clean up refuse and feces, as well as them using the park fountain to bathe.  You look at the call records for the last 60 days and note a significant increase in calls to the area by merchants as well as the park regarding open drinking, parents complaining about the constant cursing, calls regarding physical disturbances, and several people being transported for drug overdoses.  They have not come to the city commission meeting voicing their concerns to the mayor and commissioners and demanding that action be taken.  The following map will give you an aerial view of the downtown area.   The blue dots in the map indicate a call for service in the last 30 days, the red dots indicate an arrest for either panhandling or open container violation, and the orange dots represent where the drug overdoses have occurred.

Utilizing your readings and the in-lecture exercise slides of power point lecture 3 on Chapter 4.  Outline your response to the issue above using the S.A.R.A. model.  Be as detailed as possible for each category. You will upload your document which presents your S.A.R.A. analysis.  You will also create a short video explaining your analysis, how you will measure whether the response is successful, and what you anticipate the needed resources will be.

Based on the article what was the basis for Mary Winkler’s defense for shooting her husband in the back with a shotgun while he slept? 10 pts 
List and critically evaluate the evidence presented by her defense attorneys in support of the above defense (with a particular emphasis on the “battered woman’s defense”? Did you find it convincing? Why or why not? (Please be specific).  15 pts
Part of her defense assertions included the allegation that Winkler was in a “dissociative state” when she killed her husband (i.e., had a temporary psychotic break). Do you buy this? Why or why not? (Please be specific) Did the defense present evidence that contradicted this position? Why or why not? (Please be specific).  10 pts
What was Mary Winkler’s verdict? What was her sentencing outcome. Compare and contrast this outcome with that of Wendy Maldonaldo’s. Do you agree with the criminal justice outcomes in these cases? Why or why not?  15 pts

While you are not limited to these journals, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you select articles from the list above. You are specifically restricted from using Wikipedia or similar encyclopedic sources. You are required to use library search avenues to find articles, and you must attach the articles to your assignment.
Write a three-page paper describing the theory and the article’s findings. Be sure to outline the principle tenets that were supported and those that were not. After analyzing the theory, state concluding thoughts: Should this theory be accepted or rejected when creating crime control policies? Why?

Write two (seperate on same documanet) of these:
Research: Look through news sites and social media, watch or listen to news programs, and/or read newspapers/magazines to identify a current criminological event. This could range from street crime, to protests, to violence perpetrated by the state, etc.
Summarize: After finding 2 – 3 sources on your chosen current event, summarize what the sources discuss, and how they discuss/describe the event.
Critique: Using Radical Criminology, critique the current event you chose. Critique the event itself, how the news sources discuss/describe the event, and the response to the event by the public, the government, corporations, etc.
Formatting: Your critiques should be 1-2pages, single spaced using 12 pt font, with normal 1-inch margins. CITE ALL SOURCES.
