Extra Credit Assignment: Study Habits and Strategies for Anatomy and Physiology Lab Practical
Section 1: Personal Study Habits
Describe Your Study Routine:
I began studying about three weeks before the lab practical. I work 40 hours per week, so I typically study for one to two hours after work, focusing on memorizing terminology for structures and models covered in class, such as the brain, eyes, and ears.
I dedicated approximately 15-20 hours per week to studying the course material. I also dedicated time to studying during my vacation because passing the exam was very important to me.
For the lab practical, I studied daily. This consistent schedule helped me memorize terms effectively. Once I mastered a set of terms, I moved on to the next topic.
Study Methods:
I used online resources provided by the professor on Canvas, such as Youtube videos and histology slides. I also utilized handouts from the lab sessions, creating labels with terms to place on worksheets.
Yes, the handouts from Professor Garcia were particularly helpful as they provided a clearer idea of what to expect on the lab practical exam.
Environment:
I studied at work during lunch breaks and at home after work. Studying at home was more effective as I felt comfortable and could take breaks as needed. Due to my full-time job, I couldn’t join study groups with peers.
Studying in a distraction-free environment at home was very effective. It allowed me to focus without interruptions from surrounding noises.
Section 2: Effective Study Strategies for Anatomy and Physiology
Recommended Strategies:
1. Active Recall and Spaced Repetition: These methods enhance long-term retention. By repeatedly testing myself on key concepts at increasing intervals, I reinforced my memory.
2. Use of Visual Aids: Diagrams, models, and videos provided a clearer understanding of anatomical structures and their functions. For instance, watching dissection videos helped me visualize and remember the spatial relationships between different organs.
3. Taking Breaks: Taking breaks helped me avoid feeling overwhelmed. Breaks served as rewards, and every time I memorized a specific subject, I gave myself a break.
Active recall and spaced repetition are effective memory retention approaches. Visual tools help visual learners understand complicated structures. Breaks reduce burnout and increase focus and productivity.
Resource Recommendations:
– “Kaplan Medical Anatomy Flashcards”: Excellent for visual learners and helped with quick recall of anatomical structures.
– YouTube: Provided detailed explanations and visualizations of physiological processes.
– Quizlet: Useful for spaced repetition and active recall through customizable flashcards.
Section 3: Timing of Lab Practical Questions
Question Timing Reflection:
I think 90 seconds per question can be too short for some students who do not perform well under pressure. In addition to this complex questions might require more time, while simpler ones need less.
Suggestions for Improvement:
I would recommend allowing a set amount of overall time for the practical, giving students the flexibility to allocate their time as needed. This approach could reduce pressure and accommodate different pacing needs. Additionally, clarifying some of the questions to avoid ambiguity would help. For example, during the lab practical, some questions pointed to areas that could have more than one correct answer, which was challenging.

“The Relationship Between Melon Size and Echolocation Range in Odontocetes: A Comparative Analysis of Five Species” Introduction: Marine mammals, such as dolphins, whales, and porpoises, have evolved specialized adaptations to survive in their
We are asked to basically search and use data from the literature to answer a question on marine mammals. The question I am working on looks for any relationship between melon size (I was thinking to use length, but if other measurements are easier to find just tell me) and echolocation range (I think you might use interclick interval/click interval) in odontocetes (include maybe like 5 species? There must be the beluga if you manage to find its melon length). So basically as an example, you should find papers on melon length in tursiops truncatus and papers on echolocation in tursiops truncatus and you do the same for a 4 species, and then you make a scatter plot which shows if there is some correlation, and maybe do another graph to further support or disprove the hypothesis. Detailed instructions are found attached; additionally I made a template as to what to include in each section. I am not sure how this website works but please feel free to email me at any point if you have any question, I am more than happy to work on this with you step by step (assaker65@gmail.com). Additionally I attached an excel showing what I need to have at the end of the paper, I started on it already: it is basically a table showing whatever you found in those papers, doesn’t need to be specific to the topic. This table needs to be included in the appendix. Citation style is AMA. Max references is 20, min is 4. The rationale I would like you to use is the following:
“The U.S. Navy trains bottlenose dolphins for military tasks like locating underwater objects through its Marine Mammal Program. Recent reports suggest the Russian navy may be using belugas instead, due to their capability to operate in deeper and colder waters. This choice raises questions about whether the use of belugas might offer some other advantage. One aspect to consider is that belugas have a noticeably larger and more prominent melon compared to bottlenose dolphins, which could suggest enhanced echolocation detection capabilities in the former. Thus, my hypothesis is that as melon length increases, the echolocation range will increase.”
So now you can see why I would like you to include beluga in the analysis. See if you can find the length of its melon that would be great, if not then use maybe another dimension like weight or volume or something? -

Title: Proposal for Technological Solutions to Prevent Theft at Acme Logistics
Scenario Exercise:
Your company Acme Logistics has recently been experiencing some thefts of equipment during the business day. All employees have been asked about the thefts and no one is claiming that they are responsible. Your facilities has three doors that are not locked during business hours and currently have no identification standards set for admittance.
You have been tasked with resolving this issue technologically. Using a mixture of Biometric devices, surveillance systems with advanced tracking for biometric tags such as gait analysis, and other items or technology you deem necessary, you must capture these individuals and stop the thefts. You need to produce a plan on how you are going to tackle this situation. You should submit a proposal with the following items:
1) What is the situational breakdown?
2) What is the technology you will use to secure access to authorized individuals at the three public doors?
3) What is the technology you will use to capture the individuals in the act of stealing items?
4) What is the anticipated cost to the company? This must be supported.
5) What is the anticipated roll out time frame?
6) Are there any legal issues we must be concerned about? You must state a specific law or act and how it applies.
Please answer these questions as a business proposal for your boss to review and approve. It is anticipated that the assignment will be between 4-6 pages long, and writing quality (APA) will be enforced, do include a list of references and sources, if necessary.p -
