Essay Format/ Guidelines
The essay should be between 500-600 words in length.
The font style should be Times New Roman, and the font size should be 12.
Paraphrase your information using your own words.
Place images, diagrams, charts or graphs as to support your essay. Make sure to cite them.
Use at least one book, one magazine or newspaper article, and one acknowledged resource by a proper bibliography.

Presentation Prompt
Analyze a cultural practice or representation from the U.S. culture that illustrates cultural fusion and hybridity.
Instructions
Topics include food, dance, music, art, literature, architecture, YouTube/internet, film and television, language, festivals, fashion, or sports (you can also do a topic not on this list related to culture.)
Your analysis should be historical. You want to trace the evolution of cultural hybridity over time.
This is an in-class presentation only.
For your presentation, each student will want to have a central argument about how your topic illustrates cultural fusion, and provide examples from your research to support your argument.
There are several formats you can use. You can create a PowerPoint slide show, in which each member contributes slides, or you can create a video using the “Studio” link on the left-hand side navigation bar.
Find an article, book, or website about how your topic illustrates cultural fusion and hybridity using the LACC library databasesor websites with .org or .edu extensions. For example, if you are in the music group, you could research how rock music is influenced by different cultures, like blues and country music. Or if you are in the sports group, you might want to look at how the NBA is influenced by the recruitment of players from other cultures than the United States. Break your topic down into separate examples, with each group member focusing on one example.

I would like the topic of the assignment “Homelessness in San Diego, CA” The assignment instruction description Homelessness in America,” is too broad a subject. A way to narrow it down would be “Homelessness in Durham, North Carolina,” or limit it to a certain population group, such as “Homelessness among Coast Guard Veterans in the Southeast.” 
I am hoping to give you some ideas on how to pick a diverse topic. I will give you a few suggestions. I suggest that you do a paper that relates to the population of clients that you already work with or want to work with in the future. I have read papers on helping teens for various reasons but I think the focus could be on how to talk to them or address them about how technology and social media is damaging their personal and, most importantly, spiritual relationships. Another suggestion is to watch your local news and see what the stories are about.

You are going to choose a topic of preference from the course textbook and develop a research paper, following APA 7th edition format and guidelines for Student Paper and will support your work with at least three supporting academic sources ( journals, peer reviews, research, etc.)
The final version of your paper, Paper 2, will be the corrected version of your first paper ( Paper 1) reflecting the suggestions and additions made by the instructor and the writing studio expert. Developmental science focuses on the various contributions to development, and whether they lean toward the genetic side of things (nature) or environmental (nurture). Choose from one of the following topics discussed in the modules:
child obesity
eating disorders

For this paper, review the module material on your specific topic. Then, write a paper describing in detail the “nature” (primarily genetic, inherited) contributions to this condition as well as the “nurture” contributions. You will need to conduct Internet research and cite the sources to obtain additional information on your topic. For example, explaining the inherited reasons for a child to be obese will require that you visit, read, summarize, and cite medical sites on the Internet. It is crucial that you rephrase material in your own words and cite it or put phrases from the sources in quotation marks and cite them. No more than a few sentences should be directly quoted in order for you to receive credit for writing this paper (in other words, no credit is given for a paper that is a string of other people’s quotes). As a general rule of thumb, at least 1.5 pages should focus on “nature” contributions to the issue at hand and at least 1.5 pages should focus on “nurture” contributions.
Your research must include at least four journal articles or books. Websites can be very helpful and informative, but your final paper must include full, published research articles or books on the topic. Sources should be reputable and consistent with what you learned in the module as well as other sources. GoogleScholar and PDF articles from the Internet can be helpful resources. Make sure you use good search terms when trying to find articles. You may want to start broad (for example, “bystander effect”), and then narrow to your particular area. This paper requirement means that you need to include at least two primary sources in your paper; articles from the Internet can be included, but they would be in addition to the two minimum primary sources. Primary sources are firsthand accounts; thus, they involve the author writing about his or her own work.
It is recommended that you spend at least a page and a half discussing “nature” for this topic and a page and at least a half discussing “nurture.” Finally, conclude the paper by indicating which side (nature, nurture) gives the strongest contribution to this condition or whether they are both needed. For example, for child obesity, is genetics alone a sufficient cause for a child to be obese, or are poor eating habits necessary along with a genetic predisposition? The paper should follow the following format:
