“Enhancing Air Traffic Control Efficiency through Adaptive Decision Support Systems: A Proposal for Implementation”
The purpose of the conference paper and presentation is to apply critical thinking skills to a problem in aviation/aerospace human factors and to demonstrate your ability to communicate your work in a professional setting.
Your task is to develop a research project to investigate an issue or problem involving human factors in the aviation/aerospace industry. Hopefully, the topic will be inspired by some of the studies or issues that you will learn about in this course. Although you will not be conducting the study or investigation that you propose, you will construct a research design in APA journal format that is between 10-12 pages in length double spaced, not including title page, abstract, or references. Your introduction and background will explain the research statement or question and justify it by reference to previous research found in the scientific literature, and by logical argument. The method will describe data sources, participants (where applicable), variables, metrics, and procedures. The results should explain how you would analyze the data and the discussion should present possible outcomes and their applied implications.
An essential aspect of this design, and the manuscript you write to describe it, is citing relevant research that supports your approach and explains the rationale used.
The manuscript must adhere to proper APA style throughout (current edition). It must include:
Title page
Abstract
Introduction
Literature Review
Method: See the current edition APA journal article reporting standards for what to include. Include only the elements that apply to your type of project.
Results: Since this is a proposal and not a completed research project, use this section to describe possible outcomes and what you would expect to be the most likely results.
Discussion: Again, this is not a completed research project, so use this section to discuss the implications of possible results, the strengths, and limitations of your design as well as directions for future research.
References: Your references should rely heavily on peer-reviewed journals.
Air traffic control (ATC) systems have been the backbone of aviation safety and efficiency, it manages the constantly growing airspace environment. With this continuous growth, there is a pressing need to optimize ATC operations to ensure the demand is still met while maintaining the safety of every flight. Decision support systems integrate advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered design principles to provide support to the users. This research paper proposes the development and implementation of adaptive decision support systems (DSS) as a solution to enhance ATC efficiency. -

“Enhancing Baggage Screening and Handling at Cambodian Airports: Aligning with ICAO Standards for Improved Quality, Efficiency, and Security”
The main goals of this project are to maintain
baggage screening at Cambodian airports and improve the system for handling
baggage in terms of quality, efficiency, and security. Optimizing the airport’s
processes, technology, and infrastructure to meet international aviation
standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
is the aim. Through the application of cutting-edge screening technology,
enhanced operational procedures, and improved management strategies, this
initiative seeks to improve the international airport’s baggage handling
procedures in order to guarantee passengers a safe and smooth travel
experience.
Comprehensive guidelines and suggested practices for
airport security, such as baggage handling and screening procedures, are
outlined in ICAO Annex 17. Adherence to these guidelines is vital for the
airport to guarantee elevated security and optimal operational efficacy.
The ICAO Security Manual offers comprehensive
guidelines on a range of security measures that are relevant to airports. It
includes particular insights into the design of baggage handling systems,
screening techniques, and risk assessment procedures. These guidelines can be
used by the airport to assess and improve its current infrastructure and
protocols for processing baggage.
By Using Phnom Penh International Airport as a
example for this case study, due to Phnom Penh airport is the busy airport in
Cambodia. As we analysis this airport show case the result, we could use this
study case to improve all other airport in Cambodia.
Moreover, procedures for managing hazardous goods
inside checked baggage are outlined in the ICAO’s Technical Instructions for
the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air. It is imperative that these
guidelines be followed in order to guarantee the safe and secure transit of
luggage.
In order to improve the overall quality and security
of the baggage handling system and maintain baggage screening at any airport in
Cambodia, it will be important to align the airport’s practices with ICAO
recommendations, support training programs based on ICAO guidelines, and use
advanced screening technologies endorsed by ICAO. -
Title: Flight School Security: Protecting Against Potential Threats Flight school security is a critical aspect of aviation safety and plays a crucial role in preventing potential security threats. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has established regulations and guidelines for flight
Based on the readings and any research you conducted, describe and discuss flight school security:
In
regard to what you know about TSA requirements, methods of protection,
and security programs at flight schools, are there any gaps or
deficiencies that could facilitate security threats using flight schools
as a tool?
Could terrorists today receive the same training
they did before 9/11? Explain your answer. Formulate your responses from
your course material and other resources.

“Amelia ERJ145 Orly Runway Overrun: A Bow-Tie Analysis of Factors Leading to the Accident and Proposed Corrective Actions”
Reference : Amelia ERJ145 Orly Runway Overrun
You are working for the Safety Department as a safety expert and must prepare for the next safety meeting a detailed incident report with the bow-tie methodology. The event is classified as an “accident” according to ICAO Annex 13.
Elements of context identified through the Pilot’s report and Flight Data Monitoring (FDM):
• Thorough briefing performed by the crew, including performance calculation
• Adverse weather (strong cross-wind + rain)
• Incorrect informations for landing reported by the Tower
• Unstabilized approach (excessive speed)
• Aircraft defect (one reverser inoperative on the logbook)
• Internal crew factors (fatigue, 4th sector of the day)
• Evacuation was initiated by flight crew and performed by cabin crew
• Minor injuries during evacuation (no fatalities)
• Airport emergency services arrived on the site very rapidly
The safety report shall contain:
• Facts (free to use an existing case)
• Extracts or detailed bow-ties used to identify preventive and recovery barriers, effective or not (use the bow-ties)
• The analysis (can be based on the bow-ties), including a reactive risk assessment of the event using the ERC matrix
• Proposal of corrective actions with an associated date of implementation
