  • Title: Promoting Language Development in Early Childhood: A Brochure for Educators and Families

    Assessment Description
Language development is important for communication, expressing and understanding feelings, and lays the foundation for reading and writing skills once children are in school. It is important for early childhood special education professionals to understand the stages of language to be able to promote language development in the classroom and to help support families with encouraging language development at home.
Research and select an online tool that can be used to create a brochure or pamphlet to share with early childhood and early childhood special education professionals. Prepare an educational brochure about the five stages of language development in young children that could be shared with families of early childhood students. Include the following in your brochure:
Describe the stages of language development from birth to age 5 according to the information in the textbook.
Describe expressive and receptive language, how each develops, and how they relate to language development.
Examples of how teachers can support language development at each stage.
A description of 3-5 online resources families can refer to for more information on language development, including a link to each resource.
In a 250-500 word reflection, research and select two language acquisition models/theories to explain. Include the following for each model:
    Summarize the basic components.
Describe the commonalities and differences between the two models/theories.
Describe the language acquisition model/theory that resonates with the type of classroom you envision and that you expect to use in your classroom.
Describe the age/grade range for your ideal classroom and provide specific examples of why the selected model/theory would be most appropriate for your future classroom.
Support your brochure and reflection with a minimum of 3-5 scholarly resources.

  • Living Together Under a Social Contract: Balancing Self-Interest and Community Interest

    Textbook: Chapter 5, 6
    Lesson
Minimum of 1 scholarly source (in addition to the textbook)
    Initial Post Instructions
Rather than living in chaos, danger, and the hostility of our neighbors, we find ways to live together. It isn’t easy, but can we avoid doing so?
If everybody has self-interest in their own welfare and safety, then everybody also has self-interest in the welfare and safety of others. Self-interest involves community interest, and we must think about what we are willing to give up in order to get that safety and stability for ourselves, our families, our community, our nation, and even the world.
Thomas Hobbes and John Locke are just two examples of social contract moralists. Locke’s philosophy helped Thomas Jefferson formulate the United States Declaration of Independence. We are interested in what it means to live together in an orderly way under a social contract.
For the initial post, address one of the following sets of questions:
What is a time when you or someone you know of experienced a conflict between duty to self and loyalty to the community? What would logical reasoning say should be done in that case? Why that? What would an Ethical Egoist say to do? Why would they say to do that? Note what you feel is the best course of action.
What is a time when you or someone you know experienced a clash between professional duties and familial duties? Reference a professional code such as that of the American Nurses Association or American Bar Association in explaining the clash. What moral values should have been used in that case? Why those values? What would social contract ethics have said to have done? Why would social contract ethics say that? Note what you feel is the best course of action.
Articulate and evaluate a time when you or someone you know saw personal obligations collide with national obligations. How did that tension involve differing positions on a moral debate? Did those positions rely on any key moral theories? If so, how so? If not, why not? Note what you feel is the best course of action.
    Follow-Up Post Instructions
Respond to at least one peer. Further the dialogue by providing more information and clarification.
    Writing Requirements
    Minimum of 2 posts (1 initial & 1 follow-up)
Minimum of 2 sources cited (assigned readings/online lessons and an outside scholarly source)
APA format for in-text citations and list of references

  • “Exploring the Application of Reality Therapy in Treating Adolescent Substance Abuse: A Counseling Theory Perspective”

    General Information
The assignment is to write a 7-10 page typed research paper using APA style. The
paper must contain at least 6 sources, no more than two of which can be Internet
sources. If you are using an online version of a published journal, you do not have to
count that as an Internet source.
For those of you unfamiliar with APA style there are online tutorials that may assist you.
The site: Purdue OWL, is very helpful and easy to use. This site includes links to other
references to APA style and sample APA papers. There are also copies of the APA
Publication Manual in the library. For those of you who are Psychology majors, it
would be in your best interest to purchase the publication manual – you will be using it a
    lot!
    A Complete Paper Should Include
Title Page (includes header, p.#, running head, title, author and class)
Abstract (a one-paragraph summary [150-250 words] of what your paper is
    about)
Body or Text (this is what I count in the 7-10 pages)
Reference Page (an alphabetized list of all the sources you used for the paper)
    Topic
The topic of the paper must cover some aspect of counseling theory or its application.
Do not merely write a biographical sketch of the founder of a theory or an overview of a
theory we have discussed in class. A suggestion is to choose an approach or an issue
and apply it to a particular situation. Some examples of this would be:
Using Reality Therapy with Adolescent Substance Abusers
Group Therapy Approaches to Helping Children of Divorce
Ethical Conflicts in Applying Confidentiality Guidelines
When to Refer, When Not To
    Counseling Children with ADHD
Grief Counseling with Victims of “Downsizing”
These are some examples – this does not represent a total list of topics from which you
can choose. Use your imagination and analytical skills, as well as your interests to
develop a topic. If you get stuck and can not seem to find something to write about, or
you have a topic but do not know if it is acceptable, consult with me and I will help you
    refine your choice.
    Evaluation
The grading rubric can be found in iLearn. I DO count off for errors of grammar,
style, spelling, sentence structure, etc., so write carefully and proof your paper well.
I also know the content, many of the sources, and check the sources I do not know; so
do not turn in inaccurate material and expect a good grade. It is in your best interest to
familiarize yourself with the grading rubric and ask for clarification on any point you do
    not understand.
    General Guidelines
Some general guidelines for APA style research papers are as follow:
    • Paper should be typed in 12-point serif font (such as Courier, Palatino or Times
    New Roman)
    • Paper should have one-inch margins on all sides
    • Each page should have a header (which is the first couple of words from your
title – not your name!) placed ½ inch from the top of the page, starting at the left
margin; the page number should appear in the header at the right margin. You
will need to use your Header Function in order to make this work properly.
    • EVERY source you use for the paper should be cited in the text using the
    (Author, Date) format
o The page number will be included in the citation if it is a direct quote
o If you state an idea or provide information that is not common knowledge
you MUST cite where it came from (otherwise it is plagiarism!)
    • Quotes of 40 or more words need to be set apart as a block quote with the left
    margin indented 5-7 spaces
    • Terms that are abbreviated are written out completely the first time they are
used, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses, then always abbreviated
    thereafter
o For example: Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD)
    • There should be no one-sentence paragraphs
    • Each and every citation used in the manuscript should be correctly noted in the references section.
Attached is a copy of my outline. I need the paper written per the outline. References are left out to allow for more flexibility.

  • Exploring Equality, Equity, Justice, and the Controversy of ChatGPT in Education

    Phase I
Purpose: This activity  explores the topics of EQUALITY, EQUITY & JUSTICE. These three terms show up often in your readings/videos as well as in public debates/discussions about education and official education policies and laws. Developing a clear and accurate understanding of the differences between the three can not only help you to assess policies & practices inside/outside of schools, but also help you to develop your own practices (no matter what field you plan to enter) that are more clearly/firmly rooted in meeting the goals of each. Additionally, we will be learning about the pros and cons of using ChatGPT (and other generative AI sites).
Indeed, the use of ChatGPT in the educational realm has been a controversial debate – with some finding it, and other AI programs, highly disruptive in learning processes and outcomes. Thus, the main purpose of this assignment is to reflect on the major implications of this artificial intelligence technology while exploring a central concept to this course: equality vs. equity vs. justice.
Instructions: Watch both Dr. Rose’s mini lessonLinks to an external site. and the YouTube video posted below. Think about a particular point that triggered your interest in the TED Talk video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOQbu_3M0_Q
Then, copy and paste the following prompt into ChatGPT: Act as a college student writing a reflection for an undergraduate level course. I want you to prepare a one to two paragraph response explaining difference between equality, equity, and justice. Then, identify a commonly-experienced issue or problem in schools and provide three solutions: one that is rooted in equality, one in equity, and one in achieving justice.
In a word document, copy and paste the ChatGPT response.
Highlight any confusing or incorrect information in the response, and
In BLUE TEXT add in your personal perspectives/opinions and connections to specific ideas from course content.
Then, in an additional 1-2 paragraph reflection,
discuss the advantages and weaknesses of the ChatGPT-generated response provided by the AI tool guided by answering ALL THREE of  the questions below. Please, provide details and examples from the ChatGPT created response to support your arguments.
    1. In your opinion, did the response from ChatGPT feel human or could you immediately identify it as a robot-generated response? Explain.
    2. Reflecting on the information you added in blue text, do you think ChatGPT enhanced your learning process, creativity and productivity or limited your learning and boxed you in creatively, hindering your productivity?
    3. Finally, share your overall perspective on the potential impacts of ChatGPT on education. Many point to its potential to transform education while others note the negative impact it’s had on academic integrity.
Where do you sit on these perspectives?
In other words, what are the major Pros and Cons to utilizing ChatGPT and other AI programs, in educational spaces?
How does this add to the conversation of equality, equity and justice?
    Phase II
Watch the Moral Development video and participate in a discussion with classmates on the discussion forum. Posts should reference the videos and the reading material and should demonstrate that you read and understand the assigned textbook chapter. https://online.fiu.edu/videos/?vpvid=3119a722-2692-4ab3-9e2e-ac1b9552eed7
(Mainly discuss thoughts from this video above and thoughts on the texts attached below)

  • “Thank You Note to Potential Employer After Interview”

Sending follow-up thank you notes and emails is very important in business communication.  Customers, colleagues and other correspondents appreciate it when you thank them.  Many employers expect a thank you email after giving you an interview.  Thus, if you fail to send a note, you may lose the job.
Remember you cannot view your classmates’ posts until you enter your post.
    Discussion Board Steps
    Part A:
For this discussion board, you will write and post a thank you note to your potential employer. Before starting, be sure to read the Resume and Cover Letter Assignment in this module and choose a specific job and employer.
Next, assume that your resume and cover letter were polished enough to get you an interview. You just got home after this interview and immediately begin to craft your thank you email. Be sure to address the note to a specific person and use an appropriate subject line.   You may make up additional details to fit the scenario, as needed.
See pages 395-386 in your textbook for a few pointers about thank you messages. Remember to state something specific and positive about the interview, such as a particular area that interested you. You should also take the opportunity to emphasize a skill set that demonstrates your ability to perform the job.
