“Exploring the Intersection of Female Offending and Imprisonment: A Critical Analysis of Course Themes in ‘A World Apart’ and ‘Life Jolt’”
Over the course of this semester, we have discussed many risk factors and obstacles women face that provide some insight into pathways to female offending. We have also discussed that women in U.S. prisons face specific pains and deprivations arising from their imprisonment that make their experiences different from those of male inmates.
The purpose of this assignment is for students to provide a critical exploration and analysis of the underlying themes relating to issues covered in the course (for example, how do the lives and experiences of the people in the book A World Apart and the Podcast Life Jolt tie back to lectures and/or other assigned readings). Points are based on the student’s ability to integrate the themes raised in the course as well as the thought put into your personal responses. What I am NOT looking for is a recap or summary of the book and Podcast. I am looking for students to explain course concepts and provide examples from the book and Podcast that highlight the concepts. I expect students to reference course materials, additional resources (e.g. academic research or review articles, government publications, websites), and provide appropriate citations to support the points raised. Include in-text citations and reference page.
Your paper should follow the guidelines below. Points will be deducted if guidelines not followed

I want a critical analysis. That means I want you to say something about the book that isn’t obvious to a casual reader. Assume that the reader of your paper has read the book so they will already know basic information about the story and characters. This means that you don’t need to explain or summarize these basic points. However, remember to tell your reader where and what you’re talking about (basic, “after Wukong is placed under the mountain”, “before he met the monk”, “when Wukong is fighting” etc.) as it relates to your critical points so they have the correct context. You can think of the paper as you explaining an interesting or complicated aspect of the text to your friend who also read the book, formalized in an essay. You do NOT need to address all the assigned chapters. You can use quotes from other parts of the book that were not assigned. -

“Exploring the Efficacy and Limitations of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder: A Critical Analysis”
Your task will be to write an in-depth paper which provides a summary of a psychological disorder or therapeutic treatment of your choice. The psychological disorder should include a component obtained from independent research. For example, if you choose to discuss obsessive-compulsive disorder, you should present an aspect of it derived from studies not mentioned in class. Thus, it will be necessary to do independent research to complete this paper. A minimum of five original peer-reviewed references from academic journals are required and the paper should be between 5-8 double-spaced pages (not including title or reference page).
It is important that your paper not only summarizes a disorder or treatment, but also provides a critical analysis. For example, if you were to write about Dialectical Behavior Therapy, you would need to include a discussion of possible improvements and strengths of the treatment. These should not be based on opinion alone, but be supported by research studies that you cite in your paper.
This paper will be based on quality over quantity, will be worth 20% of your final grade, and will be graded on the following rubric:
Clear understanding of the area you have chosen to review = 5 points
Quality of independent research = 5 points
Critical analysis of material = 5 points
Adherence to APA format = 5 points -
